Tienmimi Hongdae

티엔미미 홍대점 Tienmimi is the Korean reading of 甜蜜蜜, 'sweet as honey' — the title of the Hong Kong film Comrades: Almost a Love Story, and one diner noted the menu descriptions keep telling the two lovers' story.

Compiled from 26 blog posts read in fullSources →

Tienmimi Hongdae is a dim sum and Chinese restaurant on the fourth floor of the Mercure Ambassador hotel near Hongik Univ. Station exit 9 — the floor is the hotel lobby. Dim sum run 10,000–11,000 won for four, plates like fish-fragrant eggplant about 40,000 won, rice and noodle dishes 15,000 won, and sets start at 40,000 won (dim sum set) or 50,000 won (Tien set) per person, two people minimum. The most-eaten dishes were the fish-fragrant eggplant (16 posts) and garlic prawns and truffle shumai (14 each). We read 30 posts from 13 May to 9 October 2026; 26 describe an actual meal. Three are multi-restaurant lists and one was about the Gangnam branch, so we left those out of the counts.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.

What sets it apart

  1. Most diners book through CatchTable — 17 posts say they went with a reservation. One post paid a 20,000 won deposit per person, another 40,000 won, which showed up on the receipt as a '10,000 won x 4 discount'. Four posts say the giant glutinous-rice ball (20,000 won) has to be ordered separately in advance by text or phone.
  2. Walk in and you will queue. Seven posts waited: ten groups at 5 p.m. on a holiday turned into a two-hour wait; eight groups at noon on a Sunday took an hour; seventh in line at 3 p.m. on a weekend meant 15 minutes after returning at 5; fifth in line at 10:10 on a Saturday meant walking straight in at the 11:00 opening. Three posts say on-site registration opens at 10:00 for lunch and 14:00 for dinner, and one post that got the first dinner number still went in at 5:20 because reservations are seated first. Four posts mention waiting on the hotel lobby sofas.
  3. Six posts sat in a private room. A seven-person work lunch booked one and noted the high ceiling; another booked the hall and was moved to an empty room. One post says rooms are only for app reservations, another counted about three. Four posts were seated on window-side sofas.
  4. Ten posts mention juiciness — soup dumplings that burst at a touch, mala dumplings full of broth, black-vinegar ribs juicy inside. One post said the opposite, that these were not juicy dumplings, and found the spicing too strong overall. Ten posts also describe a crisp fry, on the eggplant, the guobaorou and the mala cream prawns.

  1. Seating is time-limited: one post received a same-day notice of 90 minutes in the hall and two hours in a room, and another noted a two-hour meal against 90 minutes of free parking.
  2. Company is evenly spread: five posts went with family, five with friends, four as a couple, three as a larger group or work outing.

Two posts drove and parked in the hotel's mechanical basement garage; one says their BMW 420i fit. The '90 minutes free, no EVs or large cars' line appears in many posts but is copied listing text, so we did not count it.

You reach the restaurant by lift to the fourth floor, marked L for the hotel lobby. Seven posts took the lift, six of them saying it was the fourth-floor lobby — not a basement or second floor. Several got lost finding the lift through the Musinsa Standard shop on the ground floor; one arriving for an 11:00 booking found Musinsa still shut and only then discovered the hotel entrance at the back, and another recommends using that rear entrance from the start.

No one wrote about a step at the entrance or getting in with a wheelchair or stroller — that means unknown, not absent. One post only noted there is no ramp and a platform lift where Musinsa joins the hotel.

The toilets seem to be outside the restaurant: one post places them in the hotel lobby on the same floor, another just says they are right by the entrance. One post found no accessible toilet on the restaurant floor but a good one a floor below. Separate men's and women's toilets appear only in copied listing text.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 29 posts we gathered, 3 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Opening hours vary slightly between posts and are mostly copied listings. Ten give closing as 21:00, four as 22:00. The break is 14:30–17:00 in seven, 15:00–17:00 in five, 14:00–17:00 in one. Nine agree on last orders at 13:30 and 20:00. One post copying the sign at the door gave lunch 11:00–15:00 and dinner 17:00–22:00; an April visit listed an 11:30 opening. One post says it is open every day.
  • Prices differ in places. A menu list copied in a 7 October post shows garlic prawns 12,000, eggplant 39,000, black-vinegar ribs 38,000, mala cream prawns 36,000 and guobaorou 28,000 won, while posts that ordered between April and October paid 13,000, 40,000, 40,000, 39,000 and 32,000 won; the split does not follow dates, so we cannot say when they changed. Three posts call it expensive ('1.5 to 2 times a normal Chinese restaurant'), one says it is not, for a TV-chef restaurant. Two women paid 100,000 won for two dim sum, the eggplant, tomato noodles, the rice ball and a drink; another post paid 63,000 won for two rice/noodle dishes, one dim sum and the rice ball.
  • Three posts found the food salty overall or the fish-fragrant sauce a bit salty; one found the dim sum very bland.
  • Portions split: two posts found them generous, one was surprised how small they were and went for a second meal, and one found the eggplant large but the rice bowl too small.
  • Four posts give the phone number 010-8823-1070, but one says reservations could not be made by phone, only through the CatchTable app; the number is mostly cited for texting a rice-ball pre-order.
