Sanjang Mulgalbi

산장물갈비 Sanjang means a mountain lodge and mulgalbi is pork ribs simmered in a soupy broth — the room is dressed up like a lodge in the hills.

Compiled from 22 blog posts read in fullSources →

Sanjang Mulgalbi is a lodge-themed spot for mulgalbi and makgeolli on the ground floor of a side street (Yanghwa-ro 19-gil) between exits 2 and 3 of Hongik University Station. Mulgalbi is pre-cooked pork ribs simmered at the table with bean sprouts, glass noodles and rice cakes, in a spicy or a perilla-seed version. Fourteen of the visits ordered the two-person set with sides, priced at 39,000 won in both October 2025 and July 2026 posts. Several posts mention the long makgeolli list and a 'makgeolli map' on each table. We read 30 posts dated October 1, 2025 to October 12, 2026; after setting aside 6 about neighbouring shops, one top-ten list entry and one purely promotional post, 22 are first-hand visits.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.

What sets it apart

  1. Staff handle the pot. Seven posts say a server or the owner cooked it at the table, coming back and forth as it simmered. The ribs arrive already cooked; posts say it needs only two to five more minutes on the burner.
  2. Nine posts say you order on a tablet or kiosk at your seat. One post notes that every diner must order a main.
  3. Heat is adjustable, and posts disagree on how hot it is: five found it genuinely spicy, four found it mild or milder than expected, three didn't say. One August 2026 post says the perilla version only goes up to 20% heat.
  4. Waits depend on timing. One post waited about 40 minutes at 6:30 pm on a weekday, signing a paper list rather than an app; another had a Naver reservation and still wrote its name on the list and waited briefly. One found no wait around 8 pm on a Sunday; another walked in at 5:40 pm on a Sunday to find just two tables left. Three posts used or recommend Naver reservations.
3 more
  1. Six posts found the portions generous — one says the rice balls were too much for two, another that the bowl of rice came packed tight. Two were mixed; one of them had plenty of rice but wanted more meat.
  2. Three posts say the pork had no gamey smell, and none say it did. Two describe the ribs as thick-cut.
  3. Four posts call the staff friendly; one mentions being shown how to eat the dish, another being warned in advance that the prawn pancake takes time.

Getting inside

In a basementyes 0 · no 2 (of 22 posts read)

No one mentions a step at the entrance or getting in with a wheelchair or stroller; two posts only note it is on the ground floor. That means we don't know, not that there's a problem.

No post describes the restroom. One lists 'indoor restroom' among copied listing details, which we don't count.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 24 posts we gathered, 2 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • The set's sides changed. Posts from around autumn 2025 got acorn-jelly soup plus rice balls or fried rice; from a March 2026 receipt onward, the set comes with a cheese-and-roe steamed egg and rice balls. Both periods list it at 39,000 won.
  • Posted hours shifted over time. Posts through April 2026 give an 11:30 opening; from late June 2026 it is 11:00. The weekday break is 15:30-17:00 in posts through June and 16:00-17:00 from July. Last order is 21:50 in three early posts and 21:45 in four from July 2026. Closing is consistently 22:30, with one post saying 23:00. All of this is copied from the listing, and no post mentions a closing day.
  • Prices vary by period and promotion. One October 2026 post paid 32,900 won for the spicy set during what another post calls a first-anniversary promotion. The perilla mulgalbi for two is 32,000 won in a June post and 34,000 won in an August one. Weekday lunch soups went from 10,000 won (October 2025) to 11,000 won (July 2026). No post calls it expensive; three say it's good value.
  • Three posts note from experience that it's a short walk from the station; the 'two minutes from exit 2' line in many posts is copied from the listing.
  • Most posts give the phone number as 0507-1395-0325; one gives 02-324-0308. Some posts used coupons that come with a Naver reservation, such as a free bottle of makgeolli.
  • Three posts note the space used to be a different restaurant, Jipsin Maeun Galbijjim. This shop itself has not moved.
