Osai Chobap Hongdae-jeom
오사이초밥 홍대점 Chobap is the Korean word for sushi, and Hongdae-jeom marks this as the Hongdae branch of the Osai chain; the posts don't say what Osai means.

Osai Chobap's Hongdae branch is a reservation-only sushi omakase on the second floor of a building on Yeonhui-ro 1-gil, near Exit 3 of Hongik University Station. About ten people sit at one counter while the chef serves nigiri a piece at a time. The course is ten nigiri, then udon, a futomaki and a small cup of tea. From June 2025 to October 2026 every post gives the same prices: 22,000 won for lunch and 33,000 won for dinner, and at dinner each person must order a drink. At the end you can add pieces such as uni (7,000 won) or a set of extras. We read 30 posts dated June 2025 to October 2026. Six were about other branches of the chain (Sadang, Daehangno, Suwon Station) or other restaurants, and one only restated the listing, which leaves 23 actual visits.

Rows without a count: 4 of 14 posts.
Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.
What sets it apart
- There is only a counter: eleven posts say every seat is at the bar. Most put the room at ten diners per sitting (one counted nine seats). The door opens on the hour and everyone booked for that slot goes in together, so people who arrive early wait outside; one waited about ten minutes.
- Seats are close together. Seven posts call the room tight: chairs jammed side by side, little space to the next diner, smaller than expected. Three thought the spacing was fine or not too bad. One post found the chairs comfortable and one did not.
- At dinner each person must order a drink. All ten dinner posts say so, and three add that a non-carbonated soft drink or alcohol-free beer counts. Lunch is disputed: one post says alcohol wasn't required at lunch, and another says it had to buy a drink there at lunch too.
- Seven posts mention watching the chef shape and torch each piece right across the counter. Several say he tells you how to eat each one, for example which pieces need no soy sauce.
4 more
- Six posts say they left fuller than expected. One says weekday lunch pieces were nearly one and a half times the size of weekend ones. Two note the chef will make the rice smaller if you ask, and one found the rice portions small.
- Twenty-two posts thought it cheap and one did not. That one was an August 2025 dinner for two: with extra pieces and highballs it came to 97,000 won, and the writer felt it wasn't worth it at this branch. One post noticed that the banner outside looks like it dates from 2022 and still shows old prices.
- It's a walk from Hongik University Station. Four posts say it is close and easy to reach. The often-quoted '211 m from Exit 3' comes from the listing. One post warns that the building is easy to walk past, so use a map.
- Five posts are repeat visits: a self-described regular, someone on a third visit or more, a couple who come every hundred days. Two say they won't return. One (a September 2025 lunch) found the staff unfriendly and the pace rushed, and the other prefers the chain's Sangam branch.

Where it is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Getting inside
| Second floor | 4 of 23 posts |
|---|---|
| In a basement | yes 0 · no 1 (of 23 posts read) |
| Lift to the floor | 1 of 23 posts |
The restaurant is upstairs. Four posts describe going up to the second floor, two of them by the stairs. The ground floor and semi-basement are a perfume shop, and one post got lost because the entrance looks like the shop's. One post says there is a small lift, which made the trip up easy with older relatives.
No post says whether there is a step at the entrance or whether a wheelchair or pram can get in. That doesn't mean there's a problem; nobody mentioned it. Only one post mentions the lift and two took the stairs, so we don't know how big the lift is or how to reach it.
No post says whether the toilet is inside the restaurant or separated by gender.
No one mentioned: Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 24 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- Four posts found the chef friendly and two did not. Some were given a free piece of engawa or a fried scallop. An August 2025 dinner post says the earlier sitting ran over, so their course started ten minutes late, and they weren't let in to wait inside.
- Posts disagree on pace. Lunch is billed at 35-40 minutes, and one post timed it at exactly 40. One writer felt rushed at a September 2025 lunch with roughly 30 minutes allotted. Another had an August 2025 dinner, billed at 70 minutes, that was over in 30 minutes including extras. A third found the pacing comfortable.
- Corkage is also unclear. One post saw other diners bring their own bottles, and another says you must buy drinks from the restaurant. Ask before you go.
- Nobody describes queueing. It is reservation-only through Naver or CatchTable, and two posts say walk-ins are unlikely to get in. One post mentions a waiting spot outside.
- Six posts came with friends, five on a date, two with family and one alone. One liked sitting side by side at the counter to talk; another sat mixed in with a group of strangers.
- Fourteen posts list opening hours, almost all copied from the listing. Ten say 11:30-21:00 daily (or give no days); four, all from 2026, say weekends run to 21:30. Nine give a 15:00-17:00 break and one says 13:00-17:00. None mention a regular closing day.
- Ten posts give the phone number 0507-1348-5425. Most booked through Naver or CatchTable; one booked by phone the same day.
- One August 2026 post only rewrites the Naver listing, so we did not count it as a visit. The restaurant's own blurb quoted in another post (about veteran chefs and so on) is the restaurant's wording, so we didn't use it as evidence.
