Junghwa Bokchun Gold

중화복춘 골드 Bokchun is the given name of owner-chef Nam Bok-chun (written 福春, 'fortune' and 'spring'), Junghwa (中華) means 'Chinese', and Gold is the name of this branch among the chef's restaurants.

An upscale Chinese restaurant down a side street in Donggyo-dong, Mapo, a 5-7 minute walk from exits 1 and 2 of Hongik University Station. Dishes such as dongpo pork, cream shrimp and the cold yangjangpi platter run 40,000-100,000 won; champong and jjajang noodles are 25,000 won, rice dishes 15,000-20,000. You choose a tea when you sit down, pickles arrive, and an herbal jelly closes the meal. We read 30 posts dated January 27 to October 9, 2026, set aside 2 that were about other places, and counted 27 actual visits.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Twenty-three posts say they picked a tea on arrival - jasmine, pu-erh or oolong (a few list green tea instead of oolong). Staff add the leaves at the table and tell you to steep it five, seven or eight minutes, depending on the post.
  2. Nineteen posts went with a reservation (CatchTable or Naver). Many found a card with their name, or a note promising a meal 'like a dose of tonic', waiting at the table. One post saw later walk-ins turned away because ingredients had run out, and two ordered the dongpo pork ahead by phone.
  3. Thirteen posts mention rooms or screened-off seating. Most describe red bamboo blinds, curtains or partitions rather than closed doors; one said they are not fully separate rooms. There are round lazy-Susan tables for groups.
  4. Twelve posts note the glass-fronted kitchen, visible even from the street; two said the cooks behind the glass greeted them along with the floor staff.
3 more
  1. Eleven posts say the portions are big - a small dongpo was 'really a lot', one bowl of champong felt like two servings - and three took leftovers home.
  2. Five posts said the food was not salty and five said it was not greasy; the champong in particular kept being described as clear and mild rather than the hot, salty Korean style.
  3. Four posts call it expensive ('it is pricey, yes'; about 70,000 won a head at one office dinner) and two were split, saying it is not cheap but worth it. None called it cheap.

Parking

5 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

Posts saying you can park5 of 27 posts

Five posts confirm there is parking and one drove in. Two said the restaurant's own spots hold only 2 cars and one found the lot full at Saturday lunch; one called it fairly roomy, so accounts of the size differ.

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Getting inside

Toilet inside1 of 27 posts
Separate restrooms1 of 27 posts

No one described the floor from experience; the '1st floor, unit 101' in the address is copied, so this means nobody wrote about it, not that there is no other level.

No post mentions a step at the entrance or wheelchair access. One family walked there pushing a stroller but did not say how they got in; another described passing through two automatic doors.

One post says the restroom is inside the restaurant and one mentions a separate women's restroom; nobody mentions an accessible restroom.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 28 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • No one wrote about queuing. Three posts saw a waiting bench by the door, but since most went with a booking we do not know how long a walk-in would wait.
  • One post went with a baby: staff set out baby utensils and said it was fine, but the writer felt self-conscious in the quiet room whenever the 8-month-old fussed. No one described a high chair from experience.
  • One post's order was delayed and they got a starter on the house. Two posts timed the dongpo pork at 10 and 15 minutes after ordering.
  • All opening hours are copied from listings. Twenty-three posts agree on daily 11:30-22:00, a 15:30-17:00 break, last orders at 14:40 and 21:10, closed on Lunar New Year's Day and Chuseok; one post alone gives the break as 15:00-17:30.
  • Prices agree across posts from June to October 2026, except one that lists the jjajang noodles at 60,000 won (we take it as a typo) and a March list of noodle spots that says 18,000 won; we did not count the list as a visit.
  • Most posts give the phone number 0507-1435-2209; two give 070-8803-2207. One post warns that same-day app bookings can be cancelled and suggests confirming by phone.
  • Twelve posts landed in the four days from October 6 to 9, 2026, sharing the same hashtag set and the same running order (name card, tea, dessert jelly); three of them disclose sponsorship. Overall, four posts disclose sponsorship, one was a review-group visit, one says it paid its own way, and the rest say nothing.
