ZHONGHUAFUCHUN

중화복춘 Junghwa Bokchun 中華福春: 'Junghwa' means China or Chinese, and 'Bokchun' (fortune and spring) is also the given name of owner-chef Nam Bok-chun, whom the restaurant is named after.

Compiled from 19 blog posts read in fullSources →

Junghwa Bokchun is a Chinese restaurant on a side street by the Gyeongui Line Forest Park in Yeonnam-dong (220-7 Donggyo-ro). It is not a jajangmyeon-and-jjamppong counter: the usual order is one dish such as the cotton-puff fish-fragrant eggplant (50,000 won) or cotton-puff cream prawns (45,000 won small), plus one noodle soup (25,000 won), shared between two. Jasmine tea and zha cai arrive as you sit down, and a chestnut mousse comes free at the end. We read 30 posts from May to October 2026; 19 of them describe a visit here. The rest are about other places, including a same-name branch, Donggyo Gold, or are lists with no visit.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Tea comes first. Seventeen posts mention it, mostly jasmine; one writer was told to let it steep about two minutes, another describes whole leaves brewed in a glass pot. Zha cai and a cabbage-and-hijiki salad come with it.
  2. The kitchen is on view from the street. Fourteen posts mention the open kitchen, several saying passers-by can watch the woks through the glass. Ten posts call the place clean, and nearly all of them point to that visible kitchen as the reason.
  3. This is a book-ahead place. Ten posts say they reserved (via CatchTable or Naver), and most of those found a card with their name handwritten at the table. The team lunch was booked a week ahead.
  4. Portions are large. Nine posts say so, and the recurring advice is that one dish plus one noodle soup feeds two; one couple took leftovers home, and another was glad they had not ordered a noodle bowl each.
4 more
  1. One dish and one noodle soup for two comes to 70,000 to 75,000 won. Five posts call it expensive, citing a 5,000-won small can of cola and 10,000-won soju among other things; one post, a sponsored one, says it was worth the money. Dish and noodle prices are the same in May and October 2026 posts.
  2. Heat depends on the dish. Ten posts mention spice, spread across the eggplant sauce, the jjamppong and the zha cai. The choma noodles are described as mid-strength, manageable for someone who avoids heat, and one post sends spice-shy diners to the five-spice soup, which another post says is not spicy at all.
  3. Thirteen posts call the staff friendly, and they give reasons: dishes explained ingredient by ingredient, a jug of cold water brought on request, a faulty batch of flower buns replaced before the guest said anything, and staff seeing guests out the door.
  4. Accounts of speed differ: the one team-lunch post found the gaps between dishes long, while two posts say food came quickly, one of them having pre-ordered when booking.

Getting inside

Second floor6 of 19 posts
In a basementyes 2 · no 2 (of 19 posts read)
Step at the entrance1 of 19 posts

There are two levels. Six posts mention the upper floor, and several say booked tables are seated there; it has screened-off tables, large lazy-Susan tables and private rooms (three posts mention rooms). One writer noticed an exit door halfway up the stairs, meaning street level sits between the two floors. The team-lunch post says food seems to arrive upstairs by a dumbwaiter, which says nothing about a guest lift.

Writers disagree on what to call the entrance floor. The registered address says lower ground; two posts describe stepping down into a half-basement hall, two others call the same hall the first floor. It reads as a half-sunken main hall with a second floor above.

No post describes entering with a wheelchair or stroller. One mentions going down steps at the entrance. Nobody mentions a ramp or a guest lift either, which means no one wrote about it, not that there is none.

We do not know whether the restroom is inside or whether it is separated by gender. The only mention is one writer noting dental floss was provided there.

No one mentioned: Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 20 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • No post describes queuing; many visitors had booked. One post's checklist warns of long waits at weekends and peak times, but that is advice, not something the writer experienced.
  • Sixteen posts give opening hours, nearly all copying 11:30 to 22:00 with a 15:30 to 17:00 break and last order at 21:10. One gives an 11:00 opening, another a 21:00 last order. Two say it closes only on Lunar New Year's Day and Chuseok; one says it never closes.
  • Most posts list the phone number as 0507-1436-2209; one gives 070-8803-2207 instead. Writers booked through CatchTable and Naver.
  • There are three restaurants with this name nearby: this one (Yeonnam Park), the course-only Salon Signature, and Donggyo Gold. One Donggyo Gold post was checked in at this address, but its street address and phone differ, so we left it out.
  • Eighteen of the nineteen visit posts fall in September and October 2026, and many share the same stock phrases in the same order and one of two set orders. Five disclose sponsorship or a reviewer programme; the rest say nothing but read like the same brief. The chef-biography paragraph is the restaurant's own copy and we did not treat it as evidence.
