Idaejo Ppyeodagwi

이대조뼈다귀 The sign writes Idaejo as 二代祖, roughly 'second-generation founder', and ppyeodagwi is the pork backbone the stew is built on.

Idaejo Ppyeodagwi is a gamjatang and bone-soup house at Donggyo-ro 196, ground floor, under five minutes' walk from Exit 2 of Hongik Univ. Station. There are three dishes: gamjatang ordered by headcount (two to five), braised backbone, and a single-portion bone soup. Every post prices the bone soup at 12,000 won; gamjatang for two is 32,000 won in posts from visits since September 2025. Ten visit posts finished with fried rice (3,000 won) made in the leftover broth. Two posts remember that the restaurant moved here from the unit next door, where a Hollys Coffee now stands. We read 30 posts from 17 November 2024 to 5 October 2026; 21 describe an actual visit. We set aside two posts about an unrelated restaurant of the same name in Gimpo and one about a party room on the building's fourth floor.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. The most repeated observation is that most of the diners are foreign: 13 of the 21 visit posts say so. Posts estimate 'about 70% foreigners', 'Koreans are maybe 10% here', and 'everyone except about two tables was foreign'; one says most were Chinese. Two posts note the menu is also in English, Chinese and Japanese, and one describes the standing sign written in Chinese characters.
  2. The broth looks red but posts say it isn't spicy: four say so and none disagree. A family visiting in November 2025 fed the meat and rice to their toddler, who didn't find it hot at all. The same family found no high chair and wheeled the stroller in instead.
  3. Eight visit posts call the dining room large. A September 2025 post recalls floor seating a decade ago and says it is now all tables. One adds that on crowded nights you may end up in a tighter spot.

Parking

8 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

Posts saying you can park8 of 20 posts

You can park in front, which several posts call rare for Hongdae. Eight visit posts mention parking, and one family drove in with two small children. Capacity is disputed: one post says the building's free lot holds 7 to 8 cars, another says you can't fit many and suggests public transport on busy days.

Getting inside

Step-free access1 of 20 posts
Toilet inside1 of 20 posts

Beyond the '1F' in the address, no one describes the floor or whether there are steps.

One post wheeled a stroller straight in. No one mentions an entrance step or wheelchair access; that means we don't know, not that there is none.

Only one post says the restroom is inside the restaurant. Separate men's and women's restrooms appear only in a copied info block, not in anyone's own account.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 26 posts we gathered, 6 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Accounts of the staff split. Four posts found them unfriendly (plates 'tossed down', staff 'very tough'), one found them friendly, and one says service lagged because it was packed. A solo diner says they brought extra kimchi unasked.
  • Gamjatang has gone up. A November 2024 post paid 30,000 won for two; posts from September and November 2025 visits paid 32,000, and an August 2026 post lists 44,000 for four. Two 2026 posts still print 30,000 for two, which looks copied from older listings. The bone soup has stayed at 12,000 won. Two posts found it pricey and two found it reasonable.
  • The current room is not the original. A November 2024 post says the place moved once from the unit where Hollys Coffee now is, and a September 2025 post recalls floor seating back then. When it moved is uncertain; one post guesses 'around COVID'. The 2024 post also recalls that it once ran 24 hours.
  • Waits vary. Three posts mention queuing; only one gives a time, about ten minutes around 6 p.m. on a February 2025 evening. One says it was borderline but tables turned fast, and one went after 8 p.m. on a weekend and didn't wait, though it was packed.
  • Ten visit posts give the same hours, 10:30 to 22:30 with last order at 22:00, though all in copied info blocks. A single January 2026 post says open 24 hours year-round; since a 2024 post describes 24-hour service as a thing of the past, we treat that as stale. One November 2025 post was told the braised backbone is served only from the evening.
  • The phone number, 02-324-9797, appears in many posts. Reservations are mentioned only in copied info blocks; no one reports booking ahead.
