Hongsa Nogari

홍사노가리 Nogari is a young pollack, half-dried and grilled as a beer snack; none of the posts explains the 'Hongsa' part of the name.

Compiled from 25 blog posts read in fullSources →

An old-school dried-pollack bar tucked down an alley off Eoulmadang-ro near exit 7 of Hongik University Station, reached through a gap beside a clam restaurant. Pollack grilled over briquettes under the awning by the door costs 4,000 won for two, draft beer 4,500 won, and the 7,000-won jjapaghetti can be ordered only once per table. Walls and pillars are covered in customers' graffiti, seating is blue plastic tables, and most writers came here for a second round. The old sign's '1,000-won nogari' is crossed out. We read 30 posts from December 18, 2024 to October 23, 2026; 27 of them describe a visit.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. The first order must include one beer per person. Eleven posts said so — one writer asked for soju on a first visit and was told to order beer first. Soju comes after that, and four posts noted it is poured into paper cups. Because jjapaghetti cannot be reordered, two posts ordered two right away.
  2. No one disputes that it is cheap. Of fifteen posts that discussed price, thirteen called it inexpensive and none called it pricey. The dearest item is dried pollack (meoktae) at 13,000 won; one group of five drank heavily and paid 120,000 won.
  3. Twelve posts went with friends, two with a group of coworkers, one with a boyfriend. Some describe a room packed with students; others are alumni and long-time regulars returning for old times' sake.
  4. It is loud. Of five posts that mentioned noise, four found it noisy — one left early because of it — and one said you can still hold a conversation.
3 more
  1. Three posts mention a resident cat, dozing by the central heater and apparently using a wooden pillar as a scratching post. All three are winter visits from December 2024 to January 2025; later posts don't mention it, which tells us nothing either way.
  2. Four posts found portions large for the price: a heap of toasted laver, and a jjapaghetti serving of roughly one and a half to two packs.
  3. Two posts walked from exit 7 of Hongik University Station. It is deep in an alley — keep walking until you doubt anything is there — and several writers hesitated at the taped wooden door. Distances such as '109 m from exit 7' are copied listing details.

Getting inside

Toilet insideyes 0 · no 2 (of 25 posts read)
Separate restroomsyes 0 · no 3 (of 25 posts read)

No post describes the floor level or any stairs from experience; only the address says ground floor.

No one wrote about a step at the entrance or wheelchair and stroller access.

Three posts say the toilet is unisex, and two say it is outside the bar. Opinions on cleanliness split: some say it needs cleaning, others found it cleaner than expected.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 28 posts we gathered, 3 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Service splits opinion. Of five posts, one found the owner warm, two found the staff rude, and two stayed neutral. An October 2026 writer was put off by how a part-timer explained the ordering rule and left the food and beer unfinished.
  • Size is disputed: two posts found it roomier than expected, one said it is not large, and another noted the tables sit very close together.
  • No post describes queuing. Some arrived to a nearly full room, and one waited a long time for the pollack on a busy night. That is not proof there is never a line — just that no one wrote about one.
  • Eight posts copied opening hours, all from listing blocks. Seven say closed Sundays and six give 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.; one February 2026 post says open daily but closed Tuesdays, and one December 2024 post gives a 6:30 p.m. opening. All agree it runs until 5 a.m.
  • Prices have crept up: rolled omelette went from 7,000 won (December 2024) to 8,000 won (June 2025), filefish from 3,000 won (December 2024) to 4,000 won (October 2026). Seven posts agree on 4,000 won for two pollack; one May 2026 post wrote 2,000 won. The 1,000-won-a-fish era predates every post we read.
  • Five posts copied the phone number 0507-1426-7332, but none booked by phone; 'reservations, groups, takeout available' is also copied listing text.
  • One long-time regular wrote that the place has changed hands several times — a middle-aged couple was succeeded by their former part-timer — and that by November 2024 it had been renamed Hongsa Nogari. Back then jjapaghetti could only be ordered after midnight (another post says 11 p.m.); no post in our period mentions a time limit.
