BBQ CHICKEN

BBQ치킨 홍대입구점 BBQ Chicken Hongdaeipgu-jeom The Hongdae branch of the BBQ fried-chicken chain: two floors and a rooftop right outside the station, open from ten in the morning until six the next, with a marked seat where Jensen Huang ate in June 2026.

Data as of · Published ·

A company-run BBQ Chicken outlet on Eoulmadang-ro, right outside exit 9 of Hongik University Station. Three things set it apart from an ordinary chicken shop: it fills two floors plus a rooftop above them, it opens at ten in the morning and closes at six the next, and a large share of the room is foreign. Five of the seven people who ate here wrote that the customers outnumbered the Koreans. Most ordered the Golden Olive chicken, three of the five splitting it half fried, half sauced. On 5 June 2026 Nvidia's Jensen Huang came here for the second round of an evening with three Korean chairmen, and the place was national news for a while. The accounts we read run from a November 2025 visit to a September 2026 one.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Five of the seven write that most of the room was foreign — the single most repeated observation about this place. One felt they had left the country; another says the Koreans were plainly outnumbered; a third that it felt like being on holiday. Not one of the five raises it as a problem; all five offer it as what the room is like. What languages the menu comes in, and whether the staff speak English, nobody says.
  2. The seat Jensen Huang used is marked. On the evening of 5 June 2026 the Nvidia chief came here after a pork-belly dinner nearby with three Korean chairmen. A writer who came in July saw it for themselves: the seat is still there, there is a sign pointing it out, and nothing is roped off — anyone can sit down and eat in it. A September writer adds that if you want that particular seat you should ring ahead. Nobody, though, reports queueing for it or being turned away from it.
  3. Four writers make a point of it coming out of the fryer. Crisp outside and soft within; better in the room than delivered, one says, the crust still alive and the meat cooked right through; another finds the plain fried half crisper than anywhere else they know. Nobody calls it soggy. One does call it heavy — but only towards the end of a bird shared between two, and cola sorted it. On how fast it arrives they disagree: one says it came promptly, one that it took long enough to get through a second bowl of the free snack.
  4. Something comes with the beer, and they refill it. Three posts describe the free snack — puffed rice crackers, finger-shaped crisps, pickled radish — and two of them got a second bowl, one while waiting for the chicken. Two order from a tablet or kiosk at the table. Whether drinks are self-service, nobody says. One writer, and only one, reports the wi-fi working — and that one had used it.

Getting inside

Second floor4 of 7 posts
Toilet inside1 of 7 posts
Separate restrooms1 of 7 posts

Two floors, with a rooftop above them. Four posts mention the second floor and two the roof. One April writer counts three levels and says people mostly eat on the first two, the top being a roof terrace and cold at that time of year; a June writer, who took an outdoor table, describes the place as running from the ground floor up through the roof. One found a two-seat window table upstairs with a view over Hongdae; one, arriving on a Friday evening, ended up at the second-floor bar counter because nothing else was free. Whether there is any way up other than the stairs — a lift, say — not one of them says.

Not one of the seven says whether a wheelchair or a pushchair gets in. Whether there is a step at the door, how many, whether there is a ramp — none of it appears. The one thing established is that there are stairs to the upper floors: four writers sat on or looked at the second floor, two describe a rooftop above it. Nobody mentions a lift either. Whether the ground floor alone would do, and whether its entrance is level, we do not know.

One line, in one post. A writer who came in November 2025 lists the toilets as separate for men and women and inside the premises. That line, though, sits in the same block as the address, the phone number, the hours and the parking, so we cannot tell whether they saw it or copied it. The other six say nothing at all. Which floor, how clean, whether there is ever a queue for it — nobody writes.

No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 13 posts we gathered, 6 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

2026-06-103 posts in one day
2026-06-092 posts in one day

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Seven of the thirty candidate posts are accounts of eating here. Here is what happened to the rest. Seventeen were about other places entirely. In six, "BBQ" was not a name at all but a word — a beef restaurant's sign reading Korean Beef BBQ, a rooftop barbecue party room, a menu item called BBQ pork chop steak. Six more were neighbours: one digit of the street number separates three businesses here — 115 is this shop, 115-1 is a pojangmacha, 115-2 is a ramen bar. One was a different BBQ branch four doors along, and four were "best ten places in Seoul" listicles with not a line about this shop in them. Of the thirteen that remain, six are coverage of the Jensen Huang visit — a trade-press piece built from the company's own release, a day-by-day itinerary of his five days in Korea, a guide to visiting the sites. Nobody wrote those from a table here, so they are not in the denominator. None of the seven discloses sponsorship or a free meal; two state they paid.
  • Only one of the seven writes down how to get here — five minutes on foot from exit 9 at Hongik University Station. The other six treat being outside that station as too obvious to mention. Which way to turn out of the exit, and what the walk is like late at night, nobody describes. What six of them do say is that the place is open until six in the morning, so how you get home at that hour is a question they leave to you.
  • Neither queueing nor the absence of a queue appears anywhere in the seven. The nearest thing is a Friday evening in September 2026, and it was about tables, not a line: half the room was already held for group bookings, and the only seat left was at the second-floor bar. That writer could find no online booking and guessed reservations go by phone. It is the only post to mention booking at all, and the phone part is their guess, not something they were told. If you need room for a group, ring.
