Bakudanyaki
바쿠단야끼 Bakudanyakki Bakudan-yaki is Japanese for 'bomb-grill' — bakudan means bomb, after the fist-sized, ball-shaped takoyaki; the chain began in Ikebukuro, Tokyo.

Bakudanyaki is a giant-takoyaki counter on the ground floor of AK Plaza Hongdae, by the escalator next to Hongik Univ. Station. Each ball — 'the size of a fist', as one post put it — comes in a paper box; you split it and mix it with the sauce. In 2026 posts the regular is 6,000 won and the most-ordered mentaiko cheese 7,500 won. People eat at a small seating area beside the counter or carry it around the mall. Three posts note it is close to the station; eight went with friends. We read 30 posts from March 2025 to September 2026; 22 describe actually buying and eating here. Two were about other shops in the building and were set aside; six only introduce it or mention it in passing.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.
What sets it apart
- There is seating, but little of it. Nine posts mention places to sit and three call it cramped. Two counted: about 14–16 seats, or 10–12 window seats plus about 5 at a bar table. One post says most tables are for one, so check for a seat before ordering if you are two.
- Expect a wait for the food itself. Three posts say so, two of them citing about 15 minutes — one was told it would take that long and browsed upstairs meanwhile; another advises flagging any topping you want left out early, since they bake several at once.
- Three posts queued to order. The one that timed it had five or six people ahead and waited about ten minutes. Another says it is always crowded and you may have to stand until a seat frees up.
- The most common note on taste is salt: five posts found it salty, one saying it became clearly too salty by the end; only one called it ordinary restaurant seasoning.
3 more
- Opinions split on going back: three posts returned (a second visit, a regular stop, a second one the same day), four said once was enough. Those cite the soft, gooey inside — one likened the batter to mush. One post found the outside crisp; another said you can barely feel any crispness.
- Four posts say one ball is filling — enough for a light meal, or more than a small eater can finish. Several posts shared a single one between two.
- Two posts found it pricey for takoyaki, one saying it felt expensive for the quality.

Where it is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Getting inside
| In a basement | yes 0 · no 8 (of 20 posts read) |
|---|
Eight posts place it on the mall's ground floor, visible as soon as you walk in — no stairs or basement. That spot also makes it busy: one post said eating there felt hectic because it sits in the main ground-floor traffic.
No post mentions steps, wheelchairs or strollers. All we know is that it opens onto the mall's ground-floor walkway — this is unknown, not a no.
No post mentions toilets.
No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 26 posts we gathered, 6 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- One April 2025 post notes the counter had moved slightly within the ground floor since a January 2024 visit; we don't know when. A post describing a June 2024 visit may predate the move, so we did not count its seating details.
- Opening hours appear in nine posts, all copied. Six agree on 11:00–22:00 weekdays and 10:30–22:00 weekends, matching the mall's hours; one gives 22:30 on weekends, two just 11:00–22:00. Only one post, quoting a Naver notice, says there is no closing day.
- Prices run 6,000–7,500 won per ball. Only the mentaiko cheese differs: one October 2025 post says 7,000 won, June and September 2026 posts say 7,500. We can't tell whether the price rose or one post is wrong.
- Four posts copy the phone number 0507-1492-9043. None mentions booking; every post describes simply queueing to buy.
