Yanggyeok
양계옥 Yanggye means raising poultry and -ok is the old suffix for an eating house — a chicken house; one visitor read the rusted-iron, vintage interior as a nod to a poultry farm.

Yanggyeok is a chicken restaurant on the ground floor of the Geukdong Star Class building, down the alley between Starbucks and Olive Young from exit 4 of Yangjae Station. The core is chicken thigh grilled over charcoal at the table — 15,000 won for 300g salted, 16,000 won for soy or gochujang, 56,000 won for the four-part house platter. The meat arrives par-grilled from the kitchen and you finish it yourself. There is also whole-chicken soup (29,000 won for two) and braised spicy chicken (31,000 won for two), plus single-portion lunch specials on weekdays. We read 30 posts dated 2 September to 22 October 2026; all 30 describe an actual visit.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.
What sets it apart
- A small earthenware bowl of chicken soup comes free with the grill order — 16 posts mention it, one saying you could order a bowl of rice and make a meal of it. Some note that barley-like hovenia tea is served instead of water.
- Staff come to the table to debone and cut the chicken: 15 posts say staff or the owner grilled, cut, or fried rice and porridge for them. Several add that staff only handle the first round and you grill the rest, and one thought full grilling service depends on how busy they are.
- The chicken comes par-grilled — 11 posts say it is cooked once in the kitchen and finishes fast. The charcoal runs hot: one writer warns it burns if you look away, another says to ask for a fresh grill grate when cooking the marinated versions.
- It is close to the station but the entrance can be hard to find. Twenty posts describe walking from Yangjae Station, usually straight from exit 4 and into the alley between Starbucks and Olive Young. One writer got lost on a first visit; another circled the building because the mall directory still showed the old shop name.
5 more
- Side dishes are refilled from a self-service bar — 18 posts helped themselves to pickled radish wraps, perilla leaves, kimchi, peppers, garlic and sauces. Many note four dipping sauces plus flying-fish roe and perilla are set out first.
- More posts found the food mild than hot: four say the gochujang chicken, braised chicken or chicken jjamppong was barely spicy. Two disagree — one tasted some heat even in the salted chicken, another found the spicy dipping sauce strong.
- The room is large — 11 posts say so, describing big round four-seat tables set well apart, storage inside the chairs for bags and coats, and an extraction hood over each table.
- Booking is common: nine posts reserved through Naver or Catchtable and found a marked table with side dishes already laid out.
- Eight posts call the portions generous, one advising you share the cold noodles rather than order one each. One post found the glazed deodeok skimpy for 13,000 won.

Parking is in the building's basement garage: 13 posts parked there, most citing two free hours registered by giving your plate number at the counter. One notes the ramp is a bit narrow. A single post says otherwise, suggesting you look for a public lot nearby.

Where it is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.
From the station
It is close to the station but the entrance can be hard to find. Twenty posts describe walking from Yangjae Station, usually straight from exit 4 and into the alley between Starbucks and Olive Young. One writer got lost on a first visit; another circled the building because the mall directory still showed the old shop name.
Getting inside

| Separate restrooms | 1 of 29 posts |
The restaurant is at street level: six posts describe coming up from the garage to the ground floor or note it is on the first floor — from the visit, not just the address.
No post says whether there is a step at the entrance or whether a wheelchair or stroller gets in. Families with children visited, but none mentioned a stroller.
Only one post locates the toilets: outside the restaurant in the building, separate for men and women. Others only call them clean.
No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know
- No post describes queuing — that means nobody wrote about it, not that there is never a wait. Several do say the room was nearly full in the evening, around 6 to 7 pm on weekdays.
- Opening hours appear in 23 posts, all copied from the listing: 11:00–22:00, last order 21:00, and all but one give a weekday break from 14:30 to 16:00. One post says there is no break; another claims they stay open until 11 pm.
- No post calls it expensive; five say prices are fair or cheap for the area. One balked at 11,000-won noodles until the portion arrived. The house platter is listed at 56,000 won in most posts, 55,000 in one; two people with a platter and a side spend roughly 60,000–70,000 won.
- Most posts give the phone number as 0507-1309-8894; three give 02-579-8894. Reservations were made via Naver and Catchtable.
- In October 2026 the menu added chicken jjamppong, chicken jjajangmyeon and Chinese-style fried rice. Posts up to early October mention chicken knife-cut noodles, other chicken-broth noodles and cheese fried rice; menus copied after 10 October list only the cold chicken buckwheat noodles. We don't know whether the older noodles survive.
- No post discloses sponsorship and one says the meal was self-paid. But most of the October posts share the same search-keyword titles and tags and repeat the house's serving instructions, the three-generation story and the same-day-slaughtered chicken in the same order — they read like commissioned reviews. We treat the heritage and freshness claims as the restaurant's own marketing, not evidence.
