Singawon Seolleongtang & Jeju Bonga

신가원설렁탕 & 제주본가 Seolleongtang is milky ox-bone soup, the house's ground-floor trade; Jeju Bonga means roughly 'the Jeju home house', named for the Jeju pork grilled upstairs.

Compiled from 30 blog posts read in fullSources →

One restaurant on two floors, down an alley a few minutes' walk from Euljiro 1-ga station in Dadong, Jung-gu, Seoul. The ground floor is Singawon, an ox-bone soup house; upstairs is Jeju Bonga, which grills Jeju pork belly on cast-iron cauldron lids. Both share Singawon's front door. Downstairs, seolleongtang is 14,000 won (20,000 won large), short-rib soup 22,000, ox-knee soup 25,000 and big dumplings 10,000. Upstairs, pork belly is 20,000 won per 170 g (25,000 for black pork) and army stew 14,000 per serving. The usual move is to grill the pork and then switch to army stew at the same table. We read 30 posts dated Aug 29 to Oct 14, 2026, every one of them a real visit: 9 had soup, 21 had the pork or the stew.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.

What sets it apart

  1. Thickness comes up again and again: 11 posts called the pork belly thick, and one said it arrives cut into individual thick pieces. Four posts noticed staff peeling onion layers into little cups to hold the garlic on the grill.
  2. Singawon's seolleongtang comes unsalted. Three posts said the broth was bland or unseasoned and that they added salt and scallions themselves. Several posts mention scallions and crocks of kimchi and radish kimchi left on the table.
  3. Twelve posts said the portions were big. One wrote that the large seolleongtang held as much meat as a whole platter of boiled beef, and that the short-rib soup came with about six thick ribs. One post disagreed: two servings of pork belly were neither too much nor too little.
  4. The soups come out fast. Four posts said food arrived quickly, one explaining it's because the broth is already simmered. Several mention seeing the broth bubble in big cauldrons near the entrance.
2 more
  1. Four posts say side dishes were refilled: the rolled omelette kept coming, was topped up twice, radish kimchi was unlimited, and one said staff brought more before anyone asked. Seven posts said staff or the owner were friendly.
  2. Twelve posts noticed walls of celebrity autographs by the counter and up the stairs; one named actors Yoo Ji-tae, Ryu Jun-yeol and Kim Min-jae.

Parking

Posts saying you cannot5 of 30 posts

Five posts say there's no parking of its own; those that drove point to nearby paid lots such as the Dongkuk Steel public lot or the street-side lot next to the Korea Tourism Organization. Many posts found it easy by public transit, two to five minutes' walk from exit 1 or 2 of Euljiro 1-ga station.

Getting inside

Second floor5 of 30 posts

Toilet inside1 of 30 posts

Two signs, one door. There's no separate entrance for the upstairs restaurant; one post says you walk in through Singawon and take the stairs. Twelve posts went for the upstairs pork and were seated downstairs instead. One said that around 7:30 pm, once the ground floor filled up, staff began sending people upstairs. Five posts saw or sat on the second floor, and five mention private rooms.

No one wrote about a step at the door or getting in with a wheelchair or stroller. One post says the second floor is up a flight of stairs; nobody mentions an elevator. That means no one said, not that there isn't one.

One post said the restroom is indoors and convenient. Whether it's split by gender depends on which copied info box you trust: one says unisex, another says separate.

No one mentioned: Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know

  • No clear answer on waiting. Three posts didn't wait (one avoided a line on a weekday evening); two mention crowds or lines without saying more. One found it full at 6:30 pm on a Friday and another found it packed at lunchtime, but no one recorded how many minutes they waited.
  • All the opening hours we found were copied from listings, and they disagree: 11 say 9 am to 10 pm on weekdays and 9 am to 9 pm on weekends, 6 say 9 am to 10 pm daily, and 2 say 9 am to 9 pm daily. Most give last orders as 9:30 pm on weekdays and 8:30 pm on weekends. One post noted a closure from Sept 24 to 27, and another arrived late in the evening to find the pork already sold out.
  • Prices mostly agree, with one exception: most posts give 20,000 won per serving of white pork and 25,000 for black, but one recorded 34,000 won for two servings of white. Only one post gave a full bill: 62,000 won for two servings of pork and two of army stew. On whether it's expensive, the only verdicts are four posts saying it isn't.
  • There are two phone numbers: 02-778-8898 for Singawon downstairs (4 posts) and 02-777-5668 for Jeju Bonga upstairs (10 posts). One post advises booking ahead for groups; every other mention of reservations comes from copied listings.
  • Two posts say the restaurant moved recently, but neither says when or from where, and another describes it as holding the same spot for 30 years. Every post we read is about the current address, 21 Euljiro 3-gil.
  • Three posts disclose sponsorship, one was an invited reviewer, and the other 26 say nothing. Still, there's a visible template: five Jeju Bonga posts repeat the same line about a pork master from Jeju with 30 years' experience, and five October Singawon posts all pitch it as a meal after the Seoul Marathon. The invited reviewer said the restaurant started inviting reviewers when it moved.
