Noodle houseChinese

Lanju Kalmyeon

란주칼면 Lanju is the Korean reading of Lanzhou, the Chinese city known for its noodles, and kalmyeon means knife-cut noodles — the house is known for knife-shaved daoxiao noodles.

Compiled from 29 blog posts read in fullSources →

A knife-shaved-noodle Chinese restaurant at 64 Sogong-ro in Myeongdong, across from Shinsegae's flagship store. It serves wide daoxiao noodles as black-bean, jjamppong or stir-fried bowls, usually alongside a glutinous-rice sweet-and-sour pork (guobaorou). Posts that ordered list the black-bean noodles at 10,000 won, jjamppong noodles at 11,000, stir-fried seafood noodles at 13,000 and the pork at 29,000. Several describe the flow: queue, move to seats inside, order from the menu while waiting, then get a table. We read 30 posts from April 8 to October 6, 2026; one was about a different place (a café) and was set aside, and the other 29 all describe an actual meal here.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.

What sets it apart

  1. Expect to wait. All 25 posts that discuss waiting found a line. Stated waits: 10 minutes in three posts, 20 in four, 30 in six, around 40 in three, and one queued at 1:05 pm on a Saturday and sat at 2:02. One went at 3 pm on a weekday to avoid the rush and still found people ahead; another arrived at 10:33 on a Saturday before opening, found a long line already, and saw entry begin at 10:50.
  2. Four posts note there is no remote waitlist (no CatchTable or Tabling) — you can only queue in person. Another described it as old-style, first come, first served.
  3. Eleven posts mention seats inside for waiting. Several warn that a short line outside can hide a full waiting area inside.
  4. Fifteen posts say zha cai and pickled radish — sometimes peanuts too — come free when you sit. The zha cai gets singled out repeatedly; two posts note refills are on request.

  1. Thirteen of 14 posts that discuss portions call them large. A common tip is one noodle bowl plus one guobaorou for two, and many took leftovers home; several note a 500-won charge per takeaway container.
  2. Eleven posts call the guobaorou crisp, some noting it stayed crisp under the sauce; one found the shell hard enough to hurt and the meat thin.
  3. Two posts mention a one-dish-per-person rule; one group of four had to add a fried rice to meet it.

Parking

2 posts say you cannot park. None say you can.

Posts saying you cannot2 of 29 posts

There is no dedicated parking. The two posts that drove parked at Shinsegae, a public lot or State Tower across the street (1,500 won per 10 minutes). Many more posts copy 'no parking' in an info box, which we don't count.

Getting inside

We don't know the floor. The registered address says unit B101, while every blog check-in says 1st floor, and no post describes going down stairs or entering at street level.

We don't know about steps at the entrance or wheelchair and stroller access — not that there is none, just that no one wrote about it. One post went with a child but said nothing about a stroller.

We don't know whether the restroom is inside the restaurant. One post lists separate men's and women's restrooms in an info box, which we don't count as firsthand.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know

  • Speed of service is split: seven posts say food was slow (30 minutes after ordering, dishes arriving far apart, a jjamppong apparently forgotten), three say it came quickly, and one only says it can take about 20 minutes.
  • Opinions on space differ: four posts call it roomy with many tables, two call it cramped. One was seated in a separate room holding three or four tables.
  • Staff comments split two and two: two posts found them friendly, two complained — no apology for a missed dish, and service bad enough to rule out a return.
  • Of 8 posts that discuss price, four call it reasonable and one says the guobaorou is pricey. The Sichuan shredded-pork black-bean noodles are listed at 11,000 won in two copied menus but 13,000 in one post that ordered them.
  • Opening hours come only from copied info boxes: 15 of 18 say 11:00–21:20 daily, two say 21:30, one says 21:10, with last order at 20:30. No post mentions a closing day. One visitor went at 3 pm specifically because there is no afternoon break. The notes that dishes like guobaorou are served from 12:30 on weekdays (11:00 on weekends) and that dumplings are weekday-lunch only are also copied notices. Many posts give the same phone number, 02-779-4800.
  • Two returning visitors say the line grew much longer after the Ttoganjip TV feature. A seafood soft-tofu jjamppong marked 'new' appears in a September 2026 post, but we don't know when it was added.
