Gwanbuk
관북 Gwanbuk is the old name for the Hamgyong region in the far north of the peninsula — both posts describe the soup as Hamgyong-style northern sundae-guk.

A Hamgyong-style sundae-guk house on two floors in an alley in Cheongjin-dong (Jongno 5-gil 32-5), between Jonggak and Gwanghwamun. The signature Gwanbuk sundae-guk is 15,000 won, and both posts found it thick and heavy on perilla; the plain version is 11,000 won. You order at a kiosk and fetch extra onion and chives yourself. We read 2 posts, from August to September 2026, both from people who ate there — so everything below rests on one or two accounts.

Rows without a count: 2 of 2 posts.
Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.
What sets it apart
- There is a lunchtime line. One post walked in at about 11:10 on a weekday with no wait, but found a queue outside when leaving around 11:40–11:50. You take a numbered wooden paddle, write the number and party size on the waiting list, and wait for the number to be called. The other post came after 2 p.m. on a Saturday and didn't wait.
- Both posts ordered by kiosk. One said each table has its own screen with photos, and you pay as you order; the other said the photos alone didn't explain how the signature soup differs from the plain one.
- There is a closed-door private room upstairs. One post, a large work lunch group, was shown to it and described the second floor as a large hall of four-person tables plus rooms.
- Extra onion, chives and ssamjang are self-serve. One post said it saw no clear self-bar sign and only found out by watching other diners help themselves.
1 more
- One post noted the rice arrives first in a fairly small bowl, but more is given on request.

Parking

One post said plainly there is no dedicated parking; the other copied the same line from the listing. Both point to nearby paid lots.

Where it is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Getting inside
| Second floor | 1 of 2 posts |
|---|
The posts say the restaurant spans two floors, but nobody said whether the entrance is at street level or up steps.
No one mentioned an entrance step, wheelchair or stroller access, or a lift to the second floor. That means we don't know, not that there isn't one.
Nobody said where the toilets are or whether they are separated by gender.
No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know
- Only one post described the walk: about 300 m, roughly five minutes, from Jonggak Station exit 2, turning into the alley by the Starbucks Jongno Susong branch.
- One post came with a dozen coworkers, the other as a couple. With only two accounts we can't say what kind of outing it suits best.
- Both posts give the same opening hours — weekdays 10:00–21:50, Saturday 10:00–20:50, Sunday 09:30–19:50, last order 35 minutes before closing — but both copied them from the listing, and only one mentions a weekday break from 15:00 to 17:00. Neither mentions a closing day.
- Prices agree across both posts (15,000 won for the signature soup). One post called that not cheap for sundae-guk but worth trying once. Nobody worked out a per-person total.
- Neither post gives a phone number. On reservations, one post only relays the shop's notice that lunch bookings aren't taken; nobody tried booking.
