LAOSHANGHAI
라오상하이 Rao Sanghai Lao Shanghai is Chinese for 'old Shanghai' — despite the name, this is a tea house for Chinese and Taiwanese loose-leaf teas, not a Shanghai restaurant.
Compiled from 23 blog posts read in fullSources →
A Chinese and Taiwanese tea house on the second floor of a building on an alley off Yonsei-ro, between Sinchon Station and Yonsei University. Order a loose-leaf tea and you get 5g of leaf, a gaiwan, a tea tray and a self-filling electric kettle at your seat, and you brew it yourself over many infusions. Teas in the posts cost 8,000–10,000 won; milk tea was 9,000 won for 600–620ml. Part of the shop sells leaves and teaware, and it hosts a secondhand teaware market and tea gatherings. We read 29 posts from June 2025 to October 2026; 27 of them describe a visit.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.
What sets it apart
- Eight posts say the owner or staff came to the table to show them how to brew — one was told to steep Tieguanyin at 70–80°C for about 15 seconds, another was taught one- and two-handed gaiwan grips. One visitor who asked for ice was also handed some Oriental Beauty to try.
- Five posts call it quiet, mostly from weekday or late-afternoon visits. But one weekend-afternoon visitor found every table and the private room full, and another weekend visitor found it busy with a group tea session next to them.
- Three posts mention generous portions: 600–620ml pots of milk tea that came to three or more cups each, and a milk-tea bingsu heaped like a mountain. One post adds that a single order of leaf can be shared by a group.
- No post calls it expensive; three say the opposite — one called 7,000–9,000 won a reasonable range, one said it's a cheap way to try Chinese tea culture, and one noted that 9,000 won gets you a 600ml pot.

Where it is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Eleven posts say the shop is upstairs, reached by a red metal staircase on the outside of the building. Two evening visitors warned that the stairs are dark — one said the unlit metal steps looked a bit dangerous, another wasn't sure the place was even open.
The only way in that posts describe is the outside metal staircase; one visitor thought there might also be an inside stair. Nobody mentioned a lift or wheelchair or stroller access — we don't know, which is not the same as saying there is none.
Only two posts mention the toilet: one says it's inside the shop, the other that it's a single unisex room.
No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 25 posts we gathered, 2 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- One May visitor said the air conditioning was weak enough that they skipped hot tea for iced milk tea. No other post mentions cooling.
- No post mentions waiting for a seat. One weekend visit found the place full but didn't say whether they had to wait — we simply don't know.
- Twelve posts give opening hours and eleven agree on 1pm to 9pm, mostly 'daily' — but nearly all of these are copied info lines. One March 2026 post alone says 10am to 10pm. No one mentions closing days or a mid-day break.
- Milk tea prices disagree: a February 2026 post listed milk and variation teas at 6,000 won, while March and May 2026 posts paid 9,000 won for 600–620ml. We can't tell whether that's a size difference or a price rise. A July 2026 post said the menu ran from 9,000 to 37,000 won.
- Six posts give the phone number as 0507-1406-1542; one June 2025 post lists 02-715-1542. Bookable group rooms for 8 or 12 come from the shop's own notices — no post says they reserved one.
- Two posts (February 2026 and September 2025) share the same template of hashtag walls, price lists and address-and-hours blocks, and a June 2025 post reads like an ad ending in 'visit now'. None discloses sponsorship, but they may be promotional.
