Jaha Sonmandu

자하손만두 Jaha is the old name of Changuimun (Jahamun), the city gate just above the house, and son-mandu means hand-made dumplings.

Compiled from 19 blog posts read in fullSources →

A hand-made dumpling house in a converted home on the slope below Changuimun gate in Buam-dong. Clear-broth dumpling soup and dumpling soup with twisted rice cakes are 20,000 won a bowl, and pyeonsu and vegetable dumplings can be ordered by the piece. Two kinds of kimchi come with the meal. We read 31 posts dated November 2025 to October 2026, 19 of them from people who went; 30 of the 31 appeared between August 23 and October 13, 2026. Ten were list posts copied from public sources and were not counted, and two were not about this place.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Weekend lunch can mean a wait. Three posts waited: 38 parties ahead and about 1 hour 20 minutes; number 42 on the Catchtable remote queue at 11:10 on a Saturday and about an hour; over 60 minutes on a weekend. Seven walked straight in: around opening on weekdays, at 4 pm on a weekday, on weekday and early evenings, once at a weekend lunch, and at 2 pm on a rainy weekend. One post noted that Catchtable reservations are seated before the remote queue.
  2. Valet parking is available. Seven posts mentioned it and five gave the fee as 3,000 won. Space in front is tight: posts said about three cars, or three to four, and one couple found no room on a weekend and parked at the Inwangsan trailhead lot 30 minutes' walk away. All four posts that described the lot's size said it was small.
  3. You take your shoes off at the door; four posts said so, and one advised slip-on shoes. Because it is a house, the entrance floor leads up and down: three posts ate upstairs on the second floor, one was seated on the basement level, and one said the toilet is upstairs.
  4. The broth is mild. Thirteen visiting posts said it is not salty and none said otherwise. One said you might need to add salt and pepper; another, who likes bold flavors, found it a bit underwhelming for the same reason.
1 more
  1. The windows look out on Inwangsan and the neighborhood; nine posts mentioned window seats or the large glass. One arrived after dark and saw nothing, another went on a rainy day. Four posts mentioned a terrace or outdoor seating.

Getting inside

Second floor3 of 19 posts
In a basement1 of 19 posts
Step at the entrance3 of 19 posts
Toilet inside1 of 19 posts

We do not know whether a wheelchair or stroller can get in; no one wrote about it. Three posts did mention stone steps or stairs up to the entrance, the floors inside are linked by small staircases, and shoes come off at the door. No post mentioned a lift.

Only one post mentioned the toilet, saying it is upstairs. No one said whether it is gender-separated or how big it is; that is unknown, not absent.

No one mentioned: Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 29 posts we gathered, 10 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

2026-10-114 posts in one day
2026-10-092 posts in one day

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Seven visiting posts called the prices high; one complained of a steep price with only two side dishes and rice charged at 2,000 won. Two others said it might feel expensive but is worth it. One list post's claim of about 10,000 won a person was copied text and does not match what visitors paid.
  • Accounts of the staff differ. Three posts found them kind, topping up water or checking the order. One post got two undercooked dumplings, asked for a replacement and received no apology, and was steered to a cramped two-seat table while roomier ones sat empty.
  • Portions are disputed. Two posts found it filling, but one from November 2025 said the portion was too small.
  • Four posts arrived by public transport, taking a bus from Gyeongbokgung station. One called the area poorly served and drove. Two others mentioned stretches with no sidewalk near the house.
  • Seven visiting posts gave the same hours, 11:00 to 21:00 with last orders at 20:15 and closed Mondays, but all of it was copied into the post headers. The phone number 02-379-2648 is likewise copied. Two posts said bookings go through Catchtable, one adding that they close the day before.
  • The posts cluster in a short window: 30 of 31 fall between late August and mid-October 2026, and ten are list posts that repeat the Michelin blurb almost word for word. We did not count anything those list posts said about parking or hours.
