Oworui Gimbap

오월의 김밥 Owol-ui gimbap literally means 'May's gimbap' (owol is the month of May); several posts note the shop used to be called Sopung Ganeun Nal, 'Picnic Day'.

Compiled from 18 blog posts read in fullSources →

Oworui Gimbap is a takeaway-only gimbap shop at 605 Bongcheon-ro, Gwanak-gu, on the street by the Inheon Market entrance near exit 1 of Nakseongdae station. Its signature is the bapdoduk roll (6,300 won), packed with shredded egg crepe and spicy fish cake; the salad and spicy tuna rolls are also 6,300 won, tuna 5,800, vegetable 4,300 and rice balls 3,800. Every one of the 19 visit posts bought the bapdoduk. There is nowhere to sit, so people phone ahead and pick up; it opens 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Seven or eight years ago it was called Sopung Ganeun Nal ('Picnic Day'). We read 30 posts from May to October 2026; 19 are first-hand purchases. The other 11 are gimbap round-up lists or passing mentions, and we did not count them.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Phoning ahead is how this place works. Fourteen posts ordered by phone or said you can book (02-876-7792). A notice in the shop says orders are taken in slots of 25 rolls per 10 minutes, and at pickup you give the last digits of your phone number to get a pre-bagged order. Reported lead times run from 'come in 15 minutes' on a weekday, through 20 minutes, to a 9:30 call for a noon pickup and 'one hour ten minutes later'. One writer only got through on about the third try.
  2. There is no seating. Eight posts say you cannot eat in, and one notes there is nowhere to wait or eat inside. Writers ate their rolls on the summit of Gwanaksan, in Mangwon Hangang Park and in a nearby children's park. Four posts point out that chopsticks are not in the bag; you grab them yourself by the counter.
  3. Many writers warn that the egg filling hides real heat. Eleven posts call it spicy, one enough to make her nose run, another too hot on an empty stomach in the morning. The heat comes from the spicy fish cake inside; one post blames pickled chilli. A returning visitor in October 2026 felt it was a little milder than before, and one writer found it simply plain.
  4. The rolls are big. Seven posts say the portion is large: two people could not finish three rolls, and two sisters made four meals over two days from one order. The rice is a thin single layer around the filling, and one post warns a piece falls apart unless you grip it carefully.
4 more
  1. Walk-ins may wait. Two posts describe waiting or long waits: one regular says 10 to 15 minutes is common, another saw a walk-in customer leave after being told it would be long. Three posts had no wait, two on weekdays with phone orders and one who arrived right at opening.
  2. Five posts say the price is fair for the size; none call it expensive.
  3. Eight posts are repeat visits, including a regular since 2019, a ten-year Nakseongdae resident who has gone since the Picnic Day era, and a couple who go three or four times a year.
  4. It is close to the station. Four posts walked from exit 1 of Nakseongdae station and found it easy. One writer took the Gwanak 02 village bus from the station to the Gwanaksan trailhead after picking up.

These are raw counts, not percentages. Someone who did not mention something is not someone who disagreed.

The most ordered dish is bapdoduk gimbap (밥도둑김밥) — 19 of 18 posts.

The prices here are what bloggers wrote down in their posts, and they may have changed since. Check Naver Place for the current menu and prices. This list is not a menu board — it counts what bloggers actually ordered and ate. Check on Naver Place

Parking

2 posts say you cannot park. None say you can.

Posts saying you cannot2 of 18 posts

Two posts say in their own words that there is no parking and point to the street-side public lot by Inheon Market; one adds the road out front is too narrow even to stop briefly. A note that the public lot opens only at 10 a.m. comes from a 2021 news article, so we did not count it.

Where it is

Map showing where Oworui Gimbap is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

From the station

It is close to the station. Four posts walked from exit 1 of Nakseongdae station and found it easy. One writer took the Gwanak 02 village bus from the station to the Gwanaksan trailhead after picking up.

Getting inside

No post describes which floor the shop is on from experience. The address says ground floor, unit 102, but nobody mentions stairs or stepping straight in from the street.

No post says whether there is a step at the door or whether a wheelchair or stroller can get in. That does not mean there is a barrier, only that nobody wrote about it. Posts do say the shop is very small and crowded at pickup times.

Nobody mentions a toilet; we do not know whether customers can use one.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 29 posts we gathered, 11 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

2026-10-162 posts in one day

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Prices have risen. Every post from May to October 2026 lists the bapdoduk at 6,300 won, but one says it used to be 5,700 and another recalls 4,000 won in 2019. We do not know when the increases happened.
  • Fourteen posts give the same hours: 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., last order 1:50 p.m., closed Mondays. Most copy the shop's listing, and many add that it closes early when ingredients run out; one writer could only get the bapdoduk and salad rolls because everything else had sold out. One post recalls that under the old name it stayed open into the evening. Nobody checked public-holiday hours.
  • The name changed but no post says the shop moved. Three posts say it was called Sopung Ganeun Nal seven or eight years ago, and one says the bapdoduk was once sold as the 'egg bomb' roll.
  • Eleven posts were not counted. Eight are national or Seoul gimbap round-ups, two of them clearly from the same template, with the same title, the same five shops in the same order and the same wording. Phrases like 'one of Seoul's three great gimbap' or 'featured in a gimbap guidebook' are copied claims, and we did not rely on them.
