Japanese

Ilwol Katsu Anguk

일월카츠 안국점 Ilwol is the Korean word for 'sun and moon'; katsu is the Japanese-style breaded pork cutlet the house serves.

Compiled from 25 blog posts read in fullSources →

A Japanese-style tonkatsu house in a red-brick building with a yellow door, on an alley off Bukchon-ro 1-gil near exit 2 of Anguk Station. You pick your dishes when you join the CatchTable queue; at the table rice, miso soup and a truffle-scented sauce arrive first, then the cutlet with cabbage, Maldon salt and wasabi. October 2026 posts give 15,000 won for loin, 16,000 for tenderloin, 17,000 for the mixed plate and 18,000 for the premium cuts — about 1,000 won more than in summer. We read 30 posts from 24 May to 14 October 2026; 25 describe a visit. Three were about other places (the Yongsan and Gyedong branches, and a shop in Chungju) and were set aside.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Expect to queue. Twenty visit posts talk about waiting and fifteen of them waited: 5, 30, 30, 30, 36, 40 and 50 minutes, one hour, and two hours twice — both weekend lunches, one of them 49th in line after joining at 12:42 on a Saturday. One writer joined the instant the list opened at 11:30 on a Friday and was still number 24. The two who walked straight in came around 2 p.m. on a Monday and right at the evening reopening; three more got seats at once but saw a line form behind them. Remote queueing needs an on-site check-in, and one post lost its place after joining too early and postponing twice.
  2. There is a seated waiting area inside. Seven posts mention it: a bench right inside the door before a passage into the dining room, chairs one writer compared to a Korean sauna, small but somewhere to sit. One post found it full at 7 p.m. on a Saturday.
  3. Twelve posts call the staff kind, and they say why: you are told to eat the first pieces with Maldon salt and wasabi before the sauce, and you get a sweet at the till. One counter-seat diner says the owner checked in now and then without ever being intrusive.
  4. Six posts got seconds. In three the staff offered more cabbage before being asked as the bowl emptied; others got more cabbage and soup, or more rice. One post found the default rice portion small.
2 more
  1. Eight posts describe the crust as crisp and five as juicy inside. One wrote that the oil never wore on them even near the end of the plate, and two said it was not greasy.
  2. Six posts came with children. A seven-year-old finished a whole plate alone; another child preferred the tenderloin. One post notes the queue will not accept your party unless each person, children included, has a main dish. Another says the two-seat table was so cramped their son knocked over a glass.

Getting inside

No post describes the floor level from experience. The address says ground floor; whether there is a basement or upstairs seating, nobody wrote — which means we do not know, not that there is none.

No post says whether there is a step at the door or whether anyone came in with a wheelchair or stroller. Six posts came with children but none mentions a stroller, and with four posts calling the tables tight, we do not know whether a wheelchair could move between them.

No post describes using the toilet. Two say it is an in-store unisex toilet, but one is a copied info block and the other a compiled post with no visit, so we have not counted them.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 27 posts we gathered, 2 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Prices have gone up. May–June 2026 posts list loin at 14,000 won and the mixed plate at 16,000; an August post has the premium tenderloin at 17,000. From October they are 15,000, 17,000 and 18,000. The neck cutlet stayed at 20,000. We only know the rise happened between August and October. A cutlet plus noodles or curry comes to roughly 20,000 won.
  • Opening hours: twelve posts agree on 11:30–21:00 with a 15:00–17:00 break and last lunch orders at 14:30. The closing day is disputed — seven posts say open daily, two (September and October 2026) say closed every Tuesday. Most of these are copied info blocks, and we cannot tell which is right.
  • It is not roomy. Four posts call the room small or the tables close together; one says a two-seat table is full once the rice and soup land. Four mention both counter and table seating, and one counts six tables in a back section down a corridor. One post found it quiet, another noisy.
  • One post describes the walk: about five minutes from Anguk Station, closer than expected. Figures like '195 m from exit 2' are copied, and no one mentions a bus.
  • No post booked by phone. Five list the number 0507-1322-7638, but everyone queued through CatchTable, either on the machine outside or remotely in the app, and several note you have to choose your dishes when you join.
