Sisun Yeosu Hakdong is an izakaya on the ground floor of the drinking lane behind Yeosu city hall, in the district locals call Busam. It opens at six in the evening, closes at three or four in the morning, and never shuts for a day. The room is dark, styled after 1920s Japan, with a cat character dotted about, and the menu is very wide — sashimi, skewers, grills, fried things, hotpots, pasta, steak and shaved ice, close to sixty items, with eleven highballs and more than a dozen sakes. Under-18s are not admitted. It is one branch of a chain with outlets in several regions. The posts we read run from April 2025 to September 2026.

What to order

  Beef and vegetables you dip into a simmering broth at the centre of the pot. **You are told to wait for it to boil; one impatient writer put hers in early and waited a long time.** It comes with an egg yolk and mala and chilli sauces. One specifies a soy base.

  **Nobody gives the dish's price; one post gives ₩6,000 for extra beef** — one of only three figures we have for this shop. One singles out dipping the beef in the yolk; one finds the soy broth makes the drink go down.

  Raw beef served like sashimi, with separate listings for beef sashimi, tartare, and a beef-and-salmon plate. **One writer is struck by how cheap it is for Korean beef**, and two describe butter melting into it. But **one found that the sashimi she had seen in the listing photographs was not actually available.**

  **The dish this place is known for.** Salmon cut into large cubes and tossed with fiery chilli sauce and flying-fish roe; **two writers came specifically having heard of it.** Two agree on how generously the roe is packed in, and one notes a scoop of rice comes with it and tells you to wrap the lot in seaweed.

  **Nobody gives a price.** One writer notes the cubes are cut large enough to have texture; another, having tried the dish elsewhere, rates this the best.

  Salmon under cream cheese. One writer's friend, who does not like salmon, ate it anyway; she pairs it with a highball.

  Chicken feet in broth with sweet-potato noodle balls. The one writer says it reminds her of another chain's dish, and that the pairing worked better than she expected.

  **The free nibble that comes with your drink** — a chicken-drumstick-shaped cracker. Both writers who mention it were surprised by it: one admits to a second helping, the other calls it sweet-salty perfection. Water arrives with it.

  **One post gives ₩9,000 for ten**, and reckons the half-order she had came to about ₩4,500 — one of only three figures we have here.

  Chicken skin on a skewer — **crisp as a cracker outside, chewy within**, in the one account, glazed with a sweet-salty tare. Good, she says, for picking at when you are already full.

  Black-bean instant noodles under cheddar and a soft-yolked egg, **served with the local mustard-leaf kimchi**, which one writer credits with cutting the richness. The thing you order when the drink calls for carbohydrate.

To drink

  **Eleven of them on the card** — house, cocoon, lemon, citron, Earl Grey, matcha, mojito, Malibu, peach, blue Hawaii and strawberry (counted from the post that copied the menu out). One writer thinks the shop's reputation for them is earned, and that they go down easily even if you cannot drink much.

Parking

2 posts say you cannot park. None say you can.

There is no car park of its own. Only two posts touch on parking and both point to public lots nearby — an April 2025 post simply names the Hakdong Seonso arcade lot; a June 2026 post says the Busam area has gained a good many public lots and parking is no longer a worry, naming two of them with addresses. Neither writer says they actually parked. What it costs, and how far it is to walk, no post says. And this is a bar that closes before dawn — not somewhere you drive to and drink. One writer duly went home with a designated driver.

Naver Map has a full English mode — Settings → Language → English. In Korea it gives better walking and transit directions than Google Maps.

Getting inside

Nobody writes about getting in with a wheelchair or a pushchair. Across twenty-one posts the words for wheelchair, pushchair, ramp, step, threshold and step-free access do not appear once. One writer confirms the ground floor; nobody looked at whether there is a lip at the door or how wide it is. In fairness, children cannot come here at all — under-18s are not admitted — so the silence about pushchairs is not strange. One writer counted seven tables; whether a chair can pass between them, we do not know. This is not a no; it is that we do not know.

That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 21 posts we gathered, 13 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

When the posts appeared

What we do not know

• Not one writer describes getting here without a car. Across all twenty-one posts the words for bus, subway, stop, walking distance and taxi do not appear once. Yeosu has no urban rail, so you would come by bus or taxi — and nobody says which stop, or how far. All we have for finding it: near Yeosu city hall (two posts), in the Busam drinking lane (three), on the ground floor with a sign you can see (two). One adds that the lane out front is quiet. It closes at three or four in the morning and nobody writes about how they got home — beyond one who called a driver.
• It is at street level. One writer notes that being on the ground floor makes it easy to find first time, and the registered address agrees. No post mentions stairs, and none mentions a lift. The floor is the whole of what we know.
• The toilet is inside. An April 2025 writer says so — glad of it, and taken with the door — and that single post is all we have. Whether men's and women's are separate, whether there is an accessible cubicle, how many there are: no post says. In a drinking house an indoor toilet is not a small thing — other shops in the same lane are described as having theirs out in the building — and of twenty-one posts, one person checked.
• Nobody says they queued, but two watched the room fill. An April 2025 writer arrived around seven and found it full soon after; another from the same month describes a mix of office parties, couples and pairs of friends. Only one writer counted the tables: seven. How long you might wait, whether there is anywhere to wait, whether you can book — no post says. It opens at six and runs to three or four in the morning, so arriving late may help; but that is our inference and we did not count it.
• Why the numbers on this page are eight and not thirty. Of thirty confirmed posts, nine were about other restaurants. The izakayas of this one Busam lane sit almost on top of each other and the shop's name pulled its neighbours' posts in — six about Yakitori Sasa, one about Robatatori, one about Bonbu, one about a crab-and-rice place called Rado 9900 — and in none of the nine does our shop's name or address appear at all. Of the twenty-one that remained, we set aside thirteen more. Fifteen posts went up in the four days from 26 to 29 September 2025, and thirteen of them do not record a single dish, a single price, or a single mouthful. What they do instead is repeat each other: twelve say the customers range from their twenties to their fifties, twelve that the food is cheap for the quality, ten that the cat mascots are cute, twelve that it suits dates, work dinners, family meals and club nights. Nine open with a line declaring they were written for a fee. One of them left a mark. It begins "the Sisun izakaya I've just discovered in Pocheon" and ends "if you're looking for a good izakaya in Pocheon" — a Yeosu shop, named twice for a city three hundred kilometres away. A template for another branch, with the place name half swapped out. Another in the same batch lists "sashimi, grills, fried things, pasta, steak" — categories, and not one dish by name. So this has become a shop where the word "cheap" appears twelve times and three prices exist. Those three are ₩8,900 for a tofu ramen, ₩9,000 for ten chicken wings, and ₩6,000 to add beef to a hotpot — not one writer gives the price of a main dish. One of the eight we kept was also written for a fee. We kept it because she ordered the chicken-feet hotpot and wrote down how hot it was and how much of it there was — what separates a real visit from a placed one is the record of eating, not the sponsorship.
• The hours field is empty not because nobody wrote them, but because no two writers wrote the same thing. Four posts give hours and all four differ. April 2025: 17:50 to 05:00. June 2026: 18:00, closing at 04:00 on Friday and Saturday and 03:00 the rest of the week, with last orders an hour before each. A January 2026 visitor arrived before six and found it not yet open, which points to the later opening. The fourth says only that it never closes for a day. We do not put one person's figure on the table as though several had confirmed it — that has happened before, and a single account went out looking like a consensus. So the table stays empty and the reading goes here: as things stand it appears to open at six in the evening and close at four on Friday and Saturday, three the other five nights. It looks as though closing moved an hour earlier over fourteen months, but no post in between gives a time, so we could not confirm it. Ring if the hour matters. The days cannot go in the table either. The 2026 split is Friday–Saturday against Sunday–Thursday, and the vocabulary available to us cannot hold that: put Sunday in the weekend and the page promises four in the morning; put it in the week and Sunday disappears. Rather than fudge it and send someone out at three on a Sunday morning, we write it in words. The closing day is the one thing they agree on — two say open all year, one says no regular day off, and that agreement is the single row the table does carry.
