Jangseong Sogogi
장성소고기 A butcher's-counter beef house outside Jangseong station — though the people we read came for the lunch bowls, not the grill
Data as of · Published ·
Jangseong Sogogi is a butcher's-counter restaurant on the ground floor at 105 Yeokjeon-ro, directly outside Jangseong station, and has been there since 2001. There is a meat case by the door and you can pick a cut to grill. None of the five people we read did that — four came for the lunch bowls (raw-beef bibimbap, the cooked version, cold noodles, spicy beef soup), and the one who ate beef ordered the hotpot. Any set meal brings six side dishes and a free bowl of blood-sausage soup. Eleven to nine, closed between three and five in the afternoon and all day Sunday. There is a car park in front. The posts we read run from March 2025 to July 2026.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart
- A set meal brings six side dishes and a bowl of soup, free. Four of the five posts stop to talk about them — in a corpus this small nothing else repeats like it. A February 2026 writer records that day's line-up: dressed perilla leaf, stir-fried anchovy, taro stem, cabbage kimchi, seasoned laver, radish kimchi. The soup has blood sausage in it, and two writers name it differently — one as blood sausage with bean sprouts, one as beef-and-radish soup with the sausage added. The dishes change with the season: "they're a bit different each time and good every time — there was a potato salad I loved, and it's gone now." One says refills come readily; another simply puts it down to being in Jeolla.
- It is placed for people arriving by train or bus. One writer puts it immediately right of the station and spells out why — "the station and the bus terminal are both close, so it's a good place to sort out a meal if you're catching something." Another simply says "in front of Jangseong station"; a third knew the sign for years from passing it on the way past, without ever having gone in.

There is somewhere to leave a car — three of the five say so and none says otherwise. Two put it plainly: a car park of its own, in front. The third describes what is actually there: "the building sits right on the road, so there isn't much space in front. There are a few spaces down the right-hand side — not generous, but fine so long as it's only the restaurant's customers using them." A main-road building, and the spaces are round the side.

Getting there

Getting inside
| Second floor | 2 of 5 posts |
|---|
The posts disagree about what is upstairs. A March 2025 writer describes a butcher's case by the door, a ground-floor room and kitchen, and a second dining room above, concluding the place is larger than it looks. A February 2026 writer describes the same floor as a café — "they run Jarchive upstairs, so you can go up after your meal or wait there for a table." The register shows the first floor licensed to a different company in 2023, so the café is presumably the current answer. Whether the whole floor is café now, or a dining room survives beside it, these two posts cannot settle. They also differ on groups: one says parties of older diners eat there; a July 2026 writer reckons about twenty would fit despite the few tables; another the same month says the room is not large but the seats are well spaced and a group would manage.
Not one post says whether you can get in. Across all five, the words for wheelchair, pushchair, ramp, threshold, step and lift do not appear once. Several make clear it is a ground-floor restaurant with a floor above, but whether the entrance is level, and whether the only way up is stairs, nobody looked. This is not a no — it is a gap.
Nobody writes about the toilets. Whether they are inside the restaurant or out in the building, whether they are separate for men and women — the word does not appear once in five posts, even though this is a shared building with a café above and a car park in common.
No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know
- Why five. Twenty-nine posts came back under this name and twenty-four were about somewhere else. The largest block is fourteen reviews of the café on the floor above — a separate business on the register since 2023, where we are the ground floor of the same address. The street address is identical, and nothing in the matching could tell the floors apart; what those fourteen ate was a jambon-beurre sandwich. The other ten turned up because the Korean phrase in their titles — "the beef place in Jangseong" — reads as our name but means only that: seven reviews of a rib house further up the same road, two of another beef house, and one link-bait page for a third. Five is a small number. Every figure on this page comes from those five, and says nothing more than five people saw.
- It is a grill house, and nobody grilled anything. The licence calls it charcoal-grilled meat, and the way it works is that you choose from the case by the door. Not one of the five posts eats that way. Three only looked — "the meat's in very good condition. The prices, though. We'd come for the cold noodles, so we just looked"; "I only ever eat the set meals here, never the beef. One of these days I'll come properly and try it" — and the one who ate beef ordered the hotpot. So we cannot tell you a single cut or a single price from that case. Exactly one post in the corpus gives any price at all, and it is for the bibimbap. What we have read is this restaurant's lunch, not its dinner.
- We do not know whether you queue here. Not one writer describes waiting. A February 2026 post does note that "they run a café upstairs, so you can go up after your meal or wait there for a table" — which implies waiting happens, though that writer did not wait. Nobody says it is busy at lunch, and nobody says it is quiet. The only remark on how full it gets is one line from March 2025 about parties of older diners eating there.
- Last orders come in well before closing. One March 2025 post puts them at 19:50 — an hour and ten minutes before the nine o'clock close. With only one post saying it, it does not appear in the hours. Four agree on eleven to nine, three record the three-to-five break, and two say it shuts on Sundays. A July 2026 post carries a notice of a summer break from the 2nd to the 5th of August — a one-off, so it is not in the regular closing days, though it is worth knowing they take a few days off in summer.
- There are two phone numbers. The one we carry, 061-395-1212, is the direct line on the business register; two posts give 0507-1437-1212. The 0507 prefix is a forwarding service that dies if the shop stops paying for it, so we have not let it overwrite the registered line.
- No post declares a sponsorship, and none declares paying either — the Korean phrases for "sponsored", "provided", "a fee", "tasting panel" and "I paid for this myself" all occur zero times across the five. Nobody says who paid, and saying nothing is not the same as not being paid. For what it is worth, two of the five are local regulars, one came because it was near his hotel on a work trip, and one had been walking past the sign for years before a banner outside finally brought her in.
