Samsan Hoegwan Hampyeong
삼산회관 전남함평점 A branch of a kimchi-cookery chain in Hampyeong town, where pork-and-kimchi stew comes in a metal basin you boil for three more minutes at the table.
Data as of · Published ·
Samsan Hoegwan's Hampyeong branch is a kimchi-cookery franchise on Jungang-gil, between the town bus terminal and the public health centre. It occupies one ground floor and opened in June 2025. Two dishes hold it up: a pork-and-kimchi stew that comes in a metal basin and boils three more minutes at your table, and the same pair stir-fried on a griddle. Thin frozen pork belly joined them at the end of November 2025. Monday to Saturday until ten at night, closed Sundays. The posts we read run from June 2025 to September 2026.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.

What sets it apart
- You order from a tablet at the table, and when the stew lands you turn over an egg timer. Three posts mention the tablets. The timer comes up more often still — four writers describe it: three minutes with the burner on before you start eating. Two of them took it for decoration, ate straight away, and only learned what it was for when they asked afterwards. One writer found the tablet opened on the set menus and never realised single dishes existed — if you want one dish, page past the first screen.
- Side dishes and leaves come from a self-service bar. Six writers mention it; two say it is kept clean. Between them they list perilla leaves, cabbage salad, pickled radish wraps, garlic, soybean paste and kimchi, and one describes frying rice into what was left of the griddle themselves. Three note a printed card on the table explaining how to eat the food.
- Writers disagree about the heat. Of the stew, three say it is mild — one who cannot take chilli found it fine, another puts it at the level of a supermarket ramen — while one found it sharp enough to make them exhale. Several call the griddle sweet-hot, and nobody found it too much. If you are bringing children, there is one thing to know: the batter on the fried squid is spiced, and one family's children left it after a bite. The cutlet, the cheese balls and the rice balls went, by the same account, plate and all.
- Signed photographs hang on the wall, and a list of television appearances follows the restaurant from post to post. Two writers say they saw the signatures themselves; one describes framed broadcast stills in the room. More than ten posts reproduce the same list of programmes — but that list belongs to the chain, not to this branch, which opened in June 2025. Not one writer distinguishes which restaurant the cameras actually visited.
- Five posts call the portions large; only one puts a number on it. A party of four ordered two portions of the kimchi griddle and still had to cook half and set it aside. Two say the basin of stew is enough for two, and one got through two bowls of rice. The frozen pork belly alone has a three-portion minimum, which five posts state identically.
- Two writers say they came back. One had the stew with added ham on an earlier visit and the griddle this time. The other became a regular and now phones ahead for takeaway on the way home — though that writer reposted the same text two months later, so we counted it once. A third describes the owner heading off the order entirely: "three portions of the stew again today?" The remaining thirteen say nothing about their own footsteps, so we cannot tell whether they had been before.
- Every other post calls the owner young. But the phrase splits two ways. "Young and good-looking," which turns up verbatim in headline after headline, is publicity and we have not counted it; we counted only the six posts that say what he actually did. He recognised a regular and put the order in before it was asked for; he explained what the egg timer was for when someone asked; he grilled the meat at the table and kept the spread topped up; he talked a first-timer through how to eat the food; he changed the griddle plate as it went. Not one writer complains about the service.

Parking
2 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

Two writers mention parking, and they do not quite agree. A July 2025 post says the frontage is a road where you cannot stop, and that you use the public car park directly opposite — which has one electric-vehicle charger. A September post says only that there is free parking right in front. They probably mean the same lot across the street, but the building itself does not have one. The other fourteen posts either say nothing or assert a large car park without any sign of having parked in it, so we have not counted those.

Getting there

Getting inside
No one writes about the floors. The registered address ends "1st floor," and post after post copies that line, but nobody reports whether there is more seating upstairs or below. Six describe a wide room with many tables — and not one of them says whether that room is one storey or two.
Nobody wrote about the step at the door. Not one post says whether a wheelchair or a pushchair can get in, whether there is a lip at the entrance, or how wide the doorway is. We can tell you only that the place is on the ground floor and that six writers found the tables well spaced — and those two facts do not add up to an answer. One writer came with young children, but says nothing about what happened to the pushchair.
Nobody looked at the toilet. Across sixteen posts there is nothing about whether it is inside or outside, whether men's and women's are separate, or how many stalls there are. One post did list separate facilities, but that post copied the amenity list off the map listing and we dropped it from the count. A line appearing in a post is not the same as someone having seen it.
No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 28 posts we gathered, 12 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- We counted sixteen posts, not thirty. Of the thirty candidates, two never mentioned this restaurant at all — a round-up of autumn flower festivals and a long-distance trail report that came in because of a village hall with a similar name — and twelve were written without going. The posts arrive in two bursts: one right after the June 2025 opening, another of eight posts in the twelve days from 27 November to 8 December 2025, when a new dish launched. Three of those went up on a single day. Our reasons for dropping them: one describes eating dishes this place does not serve; one gets the address, phone number and opening hours all wrong; one ends by saying the writer would like to visit some day; one copies the amenity checklist off the map listing wholesale; and one blogger posted the same text twice, in June and again in August. Even among the posts we kept, the chain's own lines — hundred-day kimchi, 150-hour aged grade-one pork, a country tavern in Jinan, a grandmother's hand — are not counted as observations. Sixteen people repeating a sentence is not sixteen people seeing a thing.
- Only one of the sixteen posts records a price. In October 2025 one writer paid ₩31,500 for the stew set for three, rice included — and adds that the ordering tablet opened on the set, so they never realised single dishes existed. What a single dish costs, we do not know. A figure of ₩9,500–14,000 a head recurs across several posts, but it is lifted from the chain's own publicity, so we have not counted it. We have no basis for telling you what a meal here costs.
- Just one writer describes getting here without a car. That one places the restaurant right beside the town's intercity bus terminal, on the way to the traditional market — a corner anyone living in town passes sooner or later. How many minutes it is from the terminal on foot, or which bus reaches Hampyeong, nobody writes.
- Not one writer says they queued. Nor does anyone say they did not have to. One arrived a little after the lunch hour and found the room full; one noticed several large parties — and both were seated straight away. A line about lunchtime queues does appear once, but as hearsay, in a post we dropped from the count; the same post is where the suggestion to ring ahead comes from.
- The opening time is disputed. Thirteen posts give hours: eleven say eleven in the morning, two say noon. The two that say noon are from September and December 2025, so we cannot tell whether the time changed or the writers got it wrong. All thirteen agree on ten at night, and twelve say the place is closed on Sundays. One writer notes there is no afternoon break. Two posts give a last-order time — 21:30 and 20:30 — but neither writer had been, and one of them had the opening hours wrong as well, so we have left both out.
