사보타지 Sabotaji American-style brunch — pancake and French toast plates
Western · Dong-gu, Dongmyeong-dong
Compiled from 25 blog posts read in fullSources →
Sabotage is an American-style brunch room on a corner of a back lane in Dongmyeong-dong, Gwangju, behind the girls' high school. Steel-clad front, lettering and stickers on it, a bicycle and a snowboard hanging from the ceiling. One person cooks everything in an open kitchen. The spine of the menu is the "plate" — pancakes, French toast or a waffle alongside sausage, hash brown, bacon, egg and a ricotta salad — and you fetch your own syrup and sauces from a self-serve cart. It is a daytime place and shuts in the afternoon. The menu is printed in Korean and English. We read twenty-six posts, from August 2025 to September 2026.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.
These hours are counted from the posts we read. Shops change them without notice — check Naver Place before you go. Place — check hours
What sets it apart
- Each person orders a food item, not just a drink. One December 2025 writer records the exchange: they had already eaten, ordered one eggs Benedict and a drink each, and the owner explained that this is a place that serves meals, not a café, so a food order per head is expected — they added a pancake. Only one post mentions it, but it is the kind of thing that catches out anyone arriving for coffee alone. A plain pancake starts at ₩7,000, so making up the count is not expensive.
- Nobody takes your order at the table — you go to the front. Eight writers describe ordering on a kiosk or a tablet. How exactly has shifted over time: the oldest post, from August 2025, says only that you order and pay at the till, while later ones variously call it a kiosk to the right of the counter, a tablet in front of the till, or a pad at the desk. Three say there is also a paper menu to read first.
- It is small. Five writers say so and none call it roomy. Their counts differ a little: four say about six tables, one says about five seats. Four describe a mix — two- to four-person tables, a bar for solo diners, and a window seat. The kitchen is open: six writers mention watching the owner cook from where they sat.
- Light comes in. Seven writers mention the big front window or the daylight — "the glass wall makes it feel open", "the window seat gets the sun, good for photographs", "the best table in the house for light" — and one describes the windows thrown open on a fine day. It opens only during daylight hours, which is probably why the subject keeps coming up.

- Five writers say the portions are big and none say they are small. In their words: half a pan burger fills you up; two women could not finish one eggs Benedict; two dishes between two people was too much. One writer took leftovers away and notes that there are no takeaway boxes — the owner wraps it in foil.
- Four writers call it good value; one calls something dear. The four are talking about the food — "genuinely reasonable for brunch", "the value is in what's on the plate", "the prices are why I keep coming back". The one dissenter is talking about coffee: they skipped it because ₩4,500 for an Americano felt steep.
- Nine writers had been before. Four of them count in years — a regular since their first year of university, someone who has gone since the place opened, one who visits annually, one who reordered exactly what they had last time. Five say it was their first visit; the other twelve say nothing either way. Separately, seven say they intend to come back.
- Four writers describe the owner, and the details overlap. Two record the same instruction — don't melt the butter into the pancake, break it up and take a piece with each bite. One had their maple syrup swapped for a better bottle. Two were talked through which syrup suits what. Three mention something given free: ice cream twice, a mango jelly once — though the regular who got the jelly says it was the first time in many visits. One writer, less warmly, found the owner "hip but slightly frightening".
- The menu is printed in Korean and English, and four writers saw foreign customers. One says they turn up fairly often; one says the room felt like Itaewon for a moment; one says a lot of them come. Two others only guessed from the English menu that foreigners would find it easy, which we did not count.
- Write a receipt review on Naver and you get a pancake or a slice of white bread. Three writers mention the offer; one received and ate the pancake. It is not the same as a sponsored blog post, but it is still something given in exchange for a review, and it may be part of why the notices here run warm.

Parking
6 posts say you cannot park. None say you can.

There is no car park. Six writers say so, and four of them say where they actually left the car — in the lane outside, at the ACC cultural centre and walked, or in the paid municipal lot along the girls' school wall. One warns that a space in Dongmyeong-dong is "like finding a star in the sky" and to take whatever the lane offers. Three more posts carry "no parking" in a header block copied from the Naver listing, which we did not count. Nobody says how wide the lane is or how many cars fit.

Where it is

Getting inside
| Toilet inside | 3 of 25 posts |
|---|
It is on the ground floor, though no writer says so from having been there. The registered address reads "12 Donggyecheon-ro 95beon-gil, 1st floor", and a dozen posts copy the address with that "1st floor" attached. Nobody describes climbing stairs or going down to a basement, and nobody mentions a lift. The descriptions — opening the door straight off the lane, the big front window — fit a room at street level.
Nobody says whether there is a step at the door. In twenty-six posts the words for threshold, kerb, ramp, wheelchair and pushchair do not appear once. One writer came with children but says nothing about a pushchair. We know the room is at street level and the door is on the corner of the lane; whether you have to step up to reach it, we do not know. That is not the same as saying there is no step — it means nobody looked.
There is a lavatory inside, and three writers saw it themselves — one remarks that even the corner by the door to it is decorated, one photographs a smiley-face ball beside it, one says it is spotless and smells good. But nobody says whether it is separated by sex, or whether there is an accessible one. Not even the copied Naver facilities line, which usually supplies such claims, turns up here. How many cubicles, we do not know.
No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know
- The opening and closing times have moved four times in a year. This is change, not disagreement. Line the seventeen posts that give hours up by date and they move one way: from autumn 2025 through March 2026 it was 11:00–16:00 on weekdays and 10:00–18:00 at weekends; April and June 2026 posts say 11:00–15:00 and 10:00–17:00; one July post says the weekday open had moved to 10:00; and two September 2026 posts say 07:00–15:00 on weekdays, 07:00–16:00 at weekends. Seven in the morning is the most recent figure. Thirteen posts agree the shop closes on Wednesdays and nobody names another day. One September writer adds that the owner takes days off fairly often and that you should ask before setting out — not a fixed weekday, so it is not in the hours. Worth a check before you go.
- Accounts of queueing do not agree. One writer actually waited — they came after one o'clock to dodge the lunch rush and still had to stand for a bit. One says they waited thirty minutes on an earlier visit; a long-standing regular says a queue is normal and that they have joined one now and then. Against that: one walked in to an empty room, one found a single occupied table at half past ten on a Saturday, one was the first customer of the day. Early is fine, lunchtime is not is about the sum of it. Nobody describes anywhere to wait.
- Not one writer says how to get here by bus or train. Public transport appears once in twenty-six posts, and only as a line — "about 850m from exit 4 at Geumnamno 4-ga" — inside a header block copied wholesale from the shop's listing, alongside the phone number and the Instagram handle. That writer never says they took the subway. One person does give walking directions, but by landmark rather than station: past the pizza place, round the corner at the discount shop, straight down the lane. There is plenty about where to leave a car and nothing about arriving without one.
- Four posts say pets are welcome; one writer actually brought a dog. The other three carry it inside a single copied line — "pets welcome, high chairs, wi-fi" — lifted from the Naver listing, so we did not count them. The one we counted is from November 2025: they came with their dog and recommend the place on that basis. The other two claims fare differently. The high chair we counted once, from a writer who came with children and described the room. Wi-fi nobody saw with their own eyes, so it stands at zero. One writer does note a phone charger near the entrance.
- No post declares sponsorship. Five of the twenty-six state outright that they paid — one adds "this is not a sponsored post" — and the other twenty-one say nothing. There is no same-day flood of identical write-ups either. Four posts do share a single date, 21 November 2025, but they read nothing alike: one arrived as the first customer and watched the room fill, one brought a dog, one waited for a table, one came with their partner. The hashtags overlap; the meals recorded do not, so we kept all four. What separates a real visit from a filled order is the record of eating, not the hashtags.
- Four of the thirty confirmed posts were taken out of the count. That leaves twenty-six posts by twenty-five people — one writer posted twice, in June and September 2026. The four had not a line about this shop: a hotel breakfast review that recommends Sabotage in a link card at the end; a wood-fired pizza review that links the writer's own older Sabotage post; a sandwich shop review that mentions Sabotage once as a comparison; and a New Year's party diary about the board game called Sabotage, not the restaurant. Two of the surviving twenty-six cover several places at once — a restaurant crawl and a fortnight's diary — so we read only the Sabotage passages and counted nothing there about parking, queueing or opening hours.
