PEACE COFFEE LAB
피스커피랩 Piseu Keopi Raep Croffles and camel-roasted coffee in a converted old house in Dongmyeong-dong, open until midnight
Compiled from 29 blog posts read in fullSources →
Peace Coffee Lab occupies a two-storey house, old and left looking it, down a lane in Dongmyeong-dong, Gwangju. The room runs on a conceit — a village after the war has ended — and the shell of the house has been kept and filled with vintage furniture brought in from abroad. Two things are sold here: croffles, ironed to order, and coffee from beans brought down from camel in Seongsu, Seoul. It opens at noon and runs until midnight, every day of the year, which in this neighbourhood is rare. There is no car park. The same owner runs two other cafés nearby. The posts we read run from May to September 2026.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart
- There are four places to sit here, and which one you choose changes the café more than it should. Ground floor inside, ground floor terrace, upstairs inside, upstairs terrace — twenty-two posts mention a terrace, twenty mention the first floor. The disagreements are the useful part: one writer finds the ground floor deliberately dim and the upstairs brighter and more to her taste; another says upstairs is far quieter; a third that upstairs is small with few tables. Two note that when the folding doors are open the ground floor reads as one room with the terrace. Five writers describe walking the building before deciding where to sit.
- The croffles are why people come. One post counts seventeen kinds; across the twenty-nine we read, ten were actually ordered — glazed, castella, Lotus, Oreo and churros on the sweet side, and classic sandwich, pizza, ham-and-cheese, garlic and potato as something closer to a meal. Five posts pass on the shop's line about a French croissant dough underneath. Seventeen describe the same crisp shell over a chewy middle, and three write down the sound the knife makes. Some can be split half-and-half; not all of them can.
- The croffles are made after you order, not before. Six posts describe them arriving hot off the iron, and that costs time: one waited fifteen to twenty minutes, another simply notes it takes a while because they start when you ask. Two say the drinks come out first. What you buy with the wait is a warm one — and all four writers who tell you to add the ice cream are talking about that contrast.
- The air conditioning runs hard in summer. Three posts say so, and two of them give the same remedy: ask at the counter and they will bring you a blanket. One writer likes the cold but admits it defeats her if she stays long — which people do here; two describe coming to work.
1 more
- Five writers had been before; seventeen say they will come again. The returners are the specific ones: one on her third visit, one who knew it before the refit and was seeing the new room for the first time, one who found the owner had changed the interior again since last time. Three separate posts note that the place keeps changing. Those promising to return mostly give the same reason — four of them intend to work through the croffle list one at a time.

There is no car park. Sixteen posts say so — the single most repeated fact about this place. What they suggest instead does not agree: three point to the Asia Culture Centre's underground car park, three to a public lot, four to the lane itself, one to a church car park. Only two say how far the walk is — five minutes from the ACC, or ten to fifteen from a public lot further out. The café is down a lane, so however you arrive you finish on foot.

Getting upstairs means going outside and up a staircase. Three posts describe the route — out through the terrace, along the outside passage, up the open-air stairs. Not one mentions a lift. Three writers did not make it up: one because of her knee, one because it was raining, one who simply did not. Two more say people miss the first floor entirely and leave having seen only the ground floor. How many steps there are, and whether there is a handrail, nobody says.
Not one of the twenty-nine posts mentions a step, a ramp or a wheelchair — which is a gap worth naming, because this is a converted old house down a lane. Two writers came with a child, and one of them notes that getting in with the child was fine but there are no high chairs; even she does not say whether a pushchair fits. The upstairs is reachable only by the outdoor staircase.
The lavatory is inside — seven posts say so, one of them relieved not to have to leave the building. But one post says it is unisex ('lock the door properly'), and another describes the layout: the basin is outside, with the lavatory itself partitioned off behind it. On cleanliness they split: two call it well kept, while a third writes that it was not exactly spotless, not unusable either, and could do with more attention.
No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know
- Exactly one post describes getting here by rail — about 588 metres from exit 4 at Asia Culture Center station. Nobody came by bus, and nobody times the walk. The other twenty-eight are either discussing where to leave a car or simply say they had eaten nearby and walked over, which is the common pattern: eight arrive here as the second stop of an evening.
- Nobody reports queuing, but somebody reports not finding a seat. One writer had trouble on a weekend and deliberately came back on a weekday, which she recommends. Two others describe the room filling — one on a quiet weekday afternoon, one steadily through the evening. No post mentions a waiting area. Between the midnight closing and the four separate seating areas, nobody in these posts stood around.
- Seventeen of the thirty posts went up inside twelve days, between 15 and 27 September 2026. A review campaign ran in that window: one writer states she came through a review agency, another tags her information block 'sponsored'. The other fifteen say nothing either way. We counted all seventeen anyway — the orders differ, the hashtag blocks differ, and above all they contain the things a commissioned draft does not write down: that the rain kept her off the terrace, that her knee kept her off the first floor, that the lavatory was not spotless, that the drink tasted of water until she stirred it, that the menu has no descriptions so everything had to be asked. One thing to hold in mind, though: twelve days is one season. Every terrace in these posts is an early-autumn terrace, and what this place is like in winter or spring, we do not know. Two writers state they paid their own way.
- There is more than one of these within walking distance. The café on this page is the first branch — two posts say so explicitly. The same owner runs Passed Comptoir and Peaceful House a few lanes away, and two writers refer to a second and third branch. One of them ranks them by feel: the first for its mood, the second for its atmosphere, the third as the most fashionable. Go by the address rather than the name — all of them are close enough to walk between.
