Myeongdong Gejang

명동게장 Myeongdong is a place name (the same as Seoul's well-known district), and gejang is raw crab cured in soy sauce or chili seasoning.

Compiled from 21 blog posts read in fullSources →

A large crab house on the gejang alley in Bongsan-dong, Yeosu (Bongsannam 4-gil 23-26). It serves set meals: posts from August to October 2026 list rock-crab baekban at 16,000 won, braised hairtail with rock crab at 22,000, grilled fish with rock crab at 25,000, and the mixed blue-crab set at 35,000. Every set comes with up to three refills of rock crab, and many posts copy an opening time of 7 a.m. We read 30 posts dated July 31 to October 21, 2026: 21 describe eating here (one visit is written up twice by the same blogger), one hotel post was discarded, and eight — a home delivery, two listicles and five look-alike promotional posts — were not counted.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Fourteen posts mention refills. The refills are rock crab, not blue crab, and five posts specify the three refills are shared between soy and chili crab, not three each. One family in August 2026 only learned this partway through and felt it wasn't explained clearly at the start. Two posts note the cured shrimp is not refilled.
  2. Whether you wait depends on timing. Four posts waited or saw a line, eight walked straight in, and one waited about five minutes for a table to be cleared. Arriving at 11:40 on a Saturday public holiday, one couple found many people already waiting; three others who walked in at 11:00 Saturday, 11:30 on a weekend and 10:20 on a Sunday all found a line on the way out — 'an enormous queue', in the Sunday post. The eight who walked in mostly went off-peak: a weekday at 3 p.m., a weekday noon, Wednesday at 1:30, an early weekday evening, just after weekend lunch. Two posts mention a waiting room across the street.
  3. Three posts confirm from experience that dogs are allowed inside. All three say the dog must stay in a carrier or pet stroller; one saw another dog waiting quietly in the dining room.
  4. Posts disagree on whether the chili crab is hot: three say it is, one says it isn't. A family in August 2026 found the chili rock crab clearly hotter than the soy version and too hot for the children; another, eating the rock-crab baekban, found it barely spicy at all.
6 more
  1. Three posts found the soy crab not too salty; one found it a little salty for their taste. Another felt the rock crab was slightly saltier than the blue crab.
  2. Three posts found the prices fair or even cheap for what arrives; one called it expensive but worth trying. Another thought eating in was good value but the take-away tubs were pricey.
  3. Two posts report that everyone from elementary-school age must order a meal (one explains refills are portioned per head). The fish, hairtail and crab-stew sets need at least two diners, and solo diners pay a 2,000-won table charge — a solo visitor in October paid 18,000 won for the 16,000-won rock-crab set.
  4. Of posts that say who they came with, family is the most common at nine, then couples (four), one with a friend and one alone. Four brought children, and two came as groups of nine and seven. Five mention driving.
  5. Seven posts bought crab or salted seafood to take away or had it shipped. There is a large retail fridge by the entrance; a small (2.5 kg) tub of soy rock crab was 35,000 won. Two posts note that leftovers from your meal will not be packed, for food-safety reasons.
  6. Three posts saw a wall full of celebrity photos and autographs. The claim that it appeared on a YouTube food show is hearsay and was not counted.

Parking

7 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

Posts saying you can park7 of 21 posts

Seven posts parked here themselves. Four described the lots as large (one counted three of them), and three mention an attendant directing cars. One post from a summer 2026 weekend, though, said parking was hellish — the lot exists but was not enough for the crowd.

Getting inside

Second floor4 of 21 posts
In a basementyes 0 · no 1 (of 21 posts read)

Four posts mention a second floor: two were seated upstairs (one found it quieter than the ground floor), one notes seating on both floors, and one was seated on the ground floor because it was a slow day. Nobody mentions a basement, and nobody says whether the upper floor is reached by stairs or a lift.

No post describes the entrance step or going in with a wheelchair or stroller. 'Wheelchair-accessible entrance' appears only in one copied amenities list, which we don't count. That means nobody wrote about it, not that access is poor.

Nobody describes the toilets from experience; 'separate men's and women's toilets' appears only in copied info blocks.

No one mentioned: Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 29 posts we gathered, 8 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

2026-10-212 posts in one day
2026-10-082 posts in one day
2026-10-053 posts in one day

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • The seating has changed. A returning visitor in September 2026 found the interior fully remodelled: the old floor-seating tables have all been replaced with regular tables and chairs. Older posts describing floor seating are out of date.
  • The queue system has changed too: a September 2026 post recalls paper number tickets and an hour-plus wait four years earlier, whereas now you can join the queue remotely on the Tabling app, as an October post also notes. One group booked on Naver the day before and walked straight in (a copied info block says bookings start at four people).
  • Speed of service splits one to one: one post says food arrived very quickly; another, on a busy Sunday morning, waited a long time for grilled fish that seemed to have been forgotten, and saw the next table waiting too.
  • No post arrived by bus or train. One took a taxi from the bus terminal, one solo traveller walked about 30 minutes from the Yi Sun-sin Square area, and the rest drove or didn't say.
  • Eight posts give the hours as 07:00–21:00 with last orders at 20:20, but all are copied info lines rather than observed visits; the earliest actual visit was 10:20 on a Sunday. One copies 'open every day of the year', and 'no break time' appears only as hearsay in promotional posts we did not count.
  • Two posts copy the phone number 0507-1353-0593; one copying a delivery-box label gives 061-642-3735. Reservations are said to go through Naver and the Tabling app.
  • Five posts from October 3–5 and 21, 2026 follow one template — the same 'next to Cheongjeong bathhouse' directions, the same hearsay about no break time and valet parking, and no prices or visit dates. We did not count them as visits.
