장군왕족발 익산본점 Trotter house where the plain and the fiery version come split on one platter

Korean · Iksan-si, Yeongdeung-dong

Data as of · Published ·

Janggun Wang Jokbal, Iksan main branch, is a pig's-trotter house on the ground floor in Yeongdeung-dong, Iksan, about 200m from the primary school and directly opposite a sundae restaurant. The registered name is the shorter 장군 왕족발; the sign and the customers use the longer one. Most people order the split platter — plain braised trotter on one half, the fiery version on the other. A large sign says the pork is domestic, boiled and sold the same day; a fishcake soup arrives on the burner set into your table, and a bowl of dressed buckwheat noodles usually comes with the meat at no charge. Closed Thursdays, open from midday at weekends. The posts we read run from June to September 2026.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.

What sets it apart

  1. Two things arrive without being ordered. One is a fishcake soup — three writers wondered why a trotter house has a burner built into each table and found out it is for this. It is made peppery with black pepper and chilli and stays hot through the meal; four say it calls for soju, four that it cuts the richness. The other is a bowl of dressed buckwheat noodles, piled with cabbage, carrot and lettuce, with the dressing on the side and a glove to toss it. Three writers say the free portion is the size of a paid one.
  2. How hot the spicy trotter is depends on who is writing: seven call it hot, six do not, and even the ones who reach for a yardstick disagree. Three put it at about the heat of Shin Ramyun; on the same scale two say it is hotter than that and just below buldak, two say a weak palate will struggle, and one wished it were hotter, calling it a sweet marinade rather than a hot one. One writer says she cried through it; another reports that her partner, who cannot take heat, ate it happily. If the heat worries you, order the split platter — more than ten writers say alternating with the plain half is what kept it from cloying. One ordered the plain trotter and simply asked for the hot sauce on the side.
  3. An unusual number of writers mention the smell, and every one of them says there wasn't any — seventeen in all. Off-smell is the usual way a trotter goes wrong, so it is the first thing people check. Many copy the wall sign about boiling and selling the same day, but six watched it happen: one waited while a second batch went into the pot, one saw a batch come out, and others watched the owner slicing at the front.
  4. Extra side dishes come from a help-yourself counter — sixteen posts mention it: lettuce and leaves, pickled onion, dried radish, white kimchi, garlic, chillies. One detail recurs: the containers are kept covered. Three writers note that most self-service counters are left open and this one is not; one watched the owner and staff wiping it down between trips; one, eating there in high summer, says there was not a single fruit fly.
  5. The toilet is inside the restaurant — two writers report seeing it. Nobody wrote down whether it is separated by sex, how big it is, or whether there is a step.

Parking

17 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

Posts saying you can park17 of 29 posts

There is no car park of its own. Seventeen posts mention parking, and what they mean is the kerb outside or the side alley. Three note that the road is marked out in bays, so it is not hard, and two say the neighbourhood is quiet enough that there was always a space. One mentions public on-street parking nearby. Two state flatly that there is no car park — so do not arrive expecting one.

Getting inside

Nor does anyone mention a threshold, a ramp or a wheelchair. Whether there is a step at the door, whether a wheelchair or a pushchair gets in — none of the twenty-nine says. That is not the same as there being no problem: it means nobody looked. Only one writer reports seeing a high chair herself; two others mention them, but both of those lines are copied from the Naver listing, so we did not count them.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know

  • Why twenty-nine and not thirty. One post was a travelogue about royal tombs and shopping in Gangnam, Seoul. Iksan does not appear in it once; the only overlap with this restaurant is the writer's pen name and another shop's name in a Seoul list. It was pulled in by a word, not by the restaurant's name, so we left it out.
  • All twenty-nine posts we read were written within three and a half months, between 8 June and 21 September 2026. Five of them declare a sponsorship or a comp — three with a closing hashtag, one marked as advertising, one saying it was a monitor visit but that she pays her own way far more often — and two more hint at having been given something. One states plainly that she paid. The remaining twenty-one say nothing. Their text, orders, prices and companions all differ, so we did not treat them as one person's output, but every number on this page comes from a single season of writing.
  • The noodles are not always free, though. More than ten writers call them a freebie, but one in August 2026 paid 6,000 won for them and another ordered them as a side. It does not split by dine-in versus takeaway either — someone ate in that same month and was given them. We do not know what the condition is.
  • The hours for sitting down and the hours for collecting are not the same. Two writers spell out the difference: the dining room runs from 5pm to 11pm, while takeaway runs from 3pm to 11.50pm (from 11am at weekends). Most other posts give only the takeaway hours, so turning up at three to eat in may be a wasted trip. Twelve posts say it closes on Thursdays; only the oldest post we read (9 June 2026) says it never closes — that looks like a closing day introduced later, but we cannot be sure.
  • Not one post says what floor it is on, or whether you climb anything to get in. The licence record puts it on the ground floor, but that is something we copied from a registry, not something anyone looked at. Photographs show the doorway; no writer describes it. Whether there is anything to go up or down on the way in, we do not know.
  • No post mentions public transport. Several give landmarks — 200m from the primary school, opposite the sundae place, near the hotel — but no bus and no station. Everyone drove or lived within walking distance.
  • Writers disagree about how roomy it is. They broadly agree on seven to ten tables, but ten call it spacious and three call it small. One reckons it holds twenty-five to thirty and is fine for a group; another calls it modest and compact. Three advise phoning ahead for a group, two who booked found the table laid when they arrived, and three noticed reserved signs on other tables.
  • The prices disagree. A post from August 2026 lists the four sizes of the plain trotter at 33,000, 38,000, 43,000 and 49,000 won; one from July puts the largest at 46,000 and one from September puts the smallest at 31,000. Whether it went up, went down, or the writers are naming the sizes differently, we cannot tell. Eight posts do agree that the medium split platter is 43,000.
  • You cannot split trotter with bossam. One writer asked the owner, was told no, and went back to add it at the end of her post. The split only works between the plain and the spicy trotter. The board also lists bossam and two garlic versions, but no post records eating any of them — not because they are not served, but because nobody ordered one.
  • Nobody waited for a table. Across twenty-nine posts, not one records a queue or counts minutes at the door. People do describe waiting, but always for something else — for a takeaway order, for the food to come out, or, in one case, while a second batch of pork was boiled because the first had sold out. (One writer phoned ahead and collected with no wait at all.) Whether you get a seat on a Saturday night, nobody says. Three do advise ringing ahead if there are several of you.
