Yugil Sikdang's Songcheon branch is a gamjatang house on the ground floor of a main road through Jeonju's Songcheon-dong. The whole point of it is pork-bone hotpot with sweet-potato stems in place of the usual dried radish greens — a combination a wall sign dates to a shack at a Jeonju crossroads in 1989. This branch opened in April 2024. Nothing here is sold by the person: no single bowls, only pots in three sizes, and a choice of three — spine and knuckle together ("the original"), spine only, or knuckle only. Ten in the morning to ten at night, closed Tuesdays. The posts we read run from November 2024 to August 2026.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart
- Three shops carry this name, so a review of "Yugil Sikdang" may not be a review of this room. The original in Wansan-gu, this one in Songcheon, and one in Gunsan — directly run rather than franchised, and three writers note the shop's own sign warning against imitators. Of the thirty posts we started with, three turned out to be about the original (one of them saying plainly that the branch exists but she goes to the original), and we set those aside. Those who have eaten at both do not agree: one finds no difference worth naming, another remembers the original as hotter and this one as toned down. The closing days differ too: the original does not close; Songcheon closes on Tuesdays.
- The side dishes are self-service and there is no limit. Six or so arrive with the order — cabbage kimchi, radish kimchi, pickled onion, seaweed stems, cabbage salad, raw chilli — and the rest is up to you. Six writers single out the radish kimchi; two went back for more. One thing worth knowing before you sit down: the dipping sauces, the sweet chilli-vinegar and the mustard-wasabi, are not on the table. They are on the bar, and four writers make a point of telling you to fetch them. One explains that in Jeonju meat goes into the chilli-vinegar sauce as a matter of course. Disposable aprons and gloves are on the same bar.
- This is kitted out as a neighbourhood family restaurant, and the posts read that way. Eight mention an arcade cabinet near the door, always in the same context: where the children go once they have finished eating (one found it switched off). One notes a small play area; six the high chairs. A coffee machine stands in the room, and three writers end the meal with a cup from it. Two explain that the breaded pork cutlet is there for children who cannot take the heat of the hotpot, and report watching the neighbouring table's children order exactly that.
- They trim the sweet-potato stems in the room. Three writers caught it: one saw the pile the moment she walked in; one says that with the right timing you can watch it happen beside you; a third came across it while carrying her nephew around the room. All three say the food looked different to them afterwards. One notes the origin board listing everything as domestic; two that the kimchi is made in house.
- Nobody writes about queueing here. Six posts raise the subject and all six land on the same side: one arrived at opening on a weekend and startled the staff still setting up; one expected a Saturday-morning crowd and found none; one came at three in the afternoon to an empty room; one found a weekday evening quiet; and two simply reason from the size of the place that waiting is unlikely. This is a room big enough to absorb its own rush. Four do note that the hall fills at lunch, and one that a fair number of tables were booked.

Parking
22 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

Parking comes up in nearly every post, and not one of them complains. There are lots front and back, so it does not matter which side you arrive from, and two writers note you can walk in through the back door. The front is tight and the back is not — one directs readers straight past the front to what she calls the enormous lot behind; another reckons the parking is larger than the room it serves. Lunchtime is the exception: an August 2026 post warns that the spaces fill when the lunch crowd does, and advises getting there early. Nobody in these posts failed to park.

Getting there

Getting inside
| Toilet inside | yes 0 · no 2 (of 25 posts read) |
|---|
On the floor you enter, the posts say only "the first." The address and the check-ins put it there, and one writer places it on the ground floor of a building on the main road. That there are two doors is clear — front and back, either usable, whichever lot you parked in, say two of them. But not one post mentions a step, a threshold, or a room upstairs. Several describe a large room with group seating at the back, without saying whether that seating is on the same level or behind a door of its own.
Nobody has looked at the threshold. In twenty-six posts there is nothing on steps, ramps or the width of the door, and not one says whether a wheelchair could get in. No pram appears either, in a room where several writers stop to note the high chairs, the arcade cabinet and the play corner. What we know about the toilet runs to two lines: it is off the corridor by the back door, and one writer advises taking paper with you.
No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 26 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- They do not agree about the meat. Plenty describe it falling off the bone, tender, clean-tasting — but two posts, from May and August 2025, found it dry. The August one is specific: she had brought her family on the strength of a good memory of the original branch years before, found much of the meat dry, asked her sister whether gamjatang is simply like that, and gave three stars out of five for going back. The May writer regretted the meat but called the rice, broth and stems together the best part. What the two have in common is that both were happy with the stems — the disagreement is only about what is on the bone. We could not tell whether either is the exception.
- Twenty-six posts are not twenty-six tables. One writer put the same text — word for word — on two different blogging platforms on 19 November 2024; we counted the one visit it records. Worth noting too: one post (July 2025) calls the sweet-potato stems bracken throughout. The prices and the menu are right and the meal was real, so we kept it, but a writer who has the vegetable's name wrong should be read with that in mind. No post declares a sponsorship; five state they paid, and one says her mother did.
- Practically nobody writes about getting here without a car. In twenty-six posts there is no bus number, no stop, no route from the station. One line says the place is easy to reach by public transport and leaves it at that. Parking, by contrast, appears in twenty-two of them — on the main road, handy after a walk up Geonjisan, close to the motorway exit, on the way to the station. Every bearing is a driver's bearing. This is not a finding that transit is bad. It is a record that no one said.
