Gunsan Jeonseol Sutbul Galbi
군산전설숯불갈비 A charcoal pork-rib house in a Naun-dong lane, where the pork neck comes cut three centimetres thick and the free clay pots on the table multiply with every extra portion ordered.
Data as of · Published ·
Gunsan Jeonseol Sutbul Galbi is a charcoal pork-rib house on the ground floor of a lane behind the Kumho apartments in Naun-dong. The dish it is known for is pork neck, cut three centimetres thick and held seventy-two hours in the marinade — marinated ribs with the dimensions of a steak, as post after post points out. But what actually sets the table apart is not the meat: it is the clay pots that come with it. Order the galbi and soybean stew, blood-sausage soup, braised pollock and pork rind arrive free; order more and steamed egg, then melted cheese, follow. The side dishes and the leaves are yours to fetch from a refrigerated self-service bar. Evenings, and from midday at weekends; they do not close. The posts we read run from June 2025 to September 2026.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.

What sets it apart
- The whole place is built on a ladder: order more portions and the table grows. Two portions of meat bring soybean stew, blood-sausage soup, braised pollock and pork rind, free. Three bring one more thing. Four bring another. What that thing is has changed more than once — spicy rice cakes at four portions in June 2025; cheese fondue at four in the February 2026 posts; fondue moved down to three and braised kimchi at four by July. Two writers therefore advise rounding your party up to four. One thing to know: two posts state the giveaway comes once, on the first order. All of these pots carry prices of their own on the board — ₩8,000, ₩7,000, ₩8,000, ₩5,000 — which is why some version of "this comes free?" is the most repeated sentence in these thirty posts. Takeaway works the same way: five portions for the price of three, plus two of the soups, by six accounts.
- The side dishes and the leaves are self-service, and there is no limit. Nearly every post says so, and five stop to note that the bar is a refrigerated display case — one rates it the cleanest she has seen anywhere. Around ten dishes get named: spring-onion and young-radish kimchi, shredded radish, pickled onion, shredded scallion, bean sprouts, chilli-and-cucumber in soybean paste, cabbage salad, pickles, and soy-cured raw prawns — a ₩5,000 add-on on the board, which five writers nonetheless found sitting on the table. Of the three sauces, eight single out the barley-flecked soybean dip; "not the usual ssamjang" is the phrase that keeps coming back. Water is self-service too, in sealed bottles, by three accounts. And one writer watched the staff bin everything off a cleared table, and wrote it down.
- Staff put the meat on and cut it for you — eleven posts describe it. Six mention the thick ribs being cut down to a manageable size, four the rolling that keeps the sweet marinade off the flame, and one a grill plate changed without being asked. Another records the meat arriving already part-cooked. They do not, however, see it through: "they start it, they look in, and then it's basically yours," says one; "they grill it but you keep turning it," says another. The difference looks like a question of how full the room is — one writer who arrived at opening notes that, with few people in, someone came over and did the whole thing.
- This is not a chain, and the name on the sign changed once. Two June 2025 posts carry the story. One says the place used to trade as Gunsan Jeonseol-ui Steak Galbi and changed only the sign, nothing else. The other repeats what the owner said to her on an earlier visit: there are too many similar names about, customers get them mixed up, and this one is a single independent shop that happens to share a name with a chain. The confusion is right here in our own pile — a February 2026 post opens by recalling how well she has always eaten at Jeonseol Sutbul Galbi, *at any of its branches*, and treats this room as one of them. So a review you read under that name may not be about this room at all.
- In the evening the room fills — which in practice means timing it or booking. Five writers waited, and they are precise about it: thirty minutes at half six on a Friday; fifteen at lunch on a public holiday; one who had booked and still stood outside for arriving ten minutes early; and a regular who, after being turned back past six on several weeknights, now simply gets there before half five. The four who did not wait all arrived at or near opening — one found the place quiet just after five and watched it fill at six. One notes a small table and chairs by the door for those waiting. Six say they booked; two say that for any group meal you must.
- Children turn up at a lot of these tables. Eight posts confirm the high chairs, and there is more than that: one records a child's spoon brought over unasked for a two-year-old; two say the meat was soft enough for a small child to manage; one watched a child work through the cheese-dipped galbi at speed. One writer came with a pram, and what she wrote down was not the threshold but the gaps between tables: pushing a pram, she says, is how you end up seeking out rooms spaced like this one. Two mention disposable aprons set out for the taking.
- Write a receipt review and you get something, but what you get keeps changing. June 2025: half a charcoal-grilled squid. September 2025: pork rind. July 2026: a post that says only that an event is running. Three sightings, three different answers. It means there is a price attached to reviewing here, and the star count should be read down accordingly. Exactly one of the thirty posts declares a sponsorship — a December 2025 lunch post, tagged as such — and three state they paid. The other twenty-six say nothing either way.
- It is a grill house, and yet people write that their clothes came out of it clean. Two note a full-sized extractor over every table; one, having eaten there on a holiday with every table grilling at once, reports the room never filled with smoke; another simply calls the ventilation good. On size the posts mostly agree it is roomy — a high ceiling, wide gaps between tables, and six of them naming it as somewhere to hold a work dinner — with one dissenter, from September 2026, who found it smaller than she expected. One mentions sofa seating as well as the ordinary tables.

There is a space, and it is one space. Five posts give the number — one car, beside the building — and the rest of the party parks along the lanes nearby. Some call that easy ("plenty of room around, so we parked and went in") and one says flatly that there is no car park; they appear to be describing the same thing in two moods. It is a lane behind an apartment estate, and those who drove generally found somewhere, one of them at lunchtime on a public holiday. Just do not plan on stopping at the door.

Getting there

Getting inside
| Step-free access | 1 of 29 posts |
|---|---|
| Toilet inside | 1 of 29 posts |
On the floor you enter, the posts say only "the first." The address and the check-ins put it there, and one writer places it on the ground floor of a two- or three-storey shop building behind the apartments. Not one post mentions a step, a threshold, or a room upstairs. Several describe large parties and work dinners without ever mentioning a private room or an upper floor, which suggests everything is on one level — though nobody says it. On moving about inside there is one clue: the writer who brought a pram found the spacing between tables generous.
Nobody has looked at the threshold. In thirty posts there is nothing on steps, ramps or the width of the door, and not one says whether a wheelchair could get in. The nearest thing to a record is a January 2026 post, and even that is about the space between tables rather than the way in: pushing a pram, the writer says, teaches you to look for rooms spaced like this one. Four admire the sign and the glass frontage; none of the four looks down at what is under the door.
One person mentions the toilet. A June 2026 post notes that it is inside the shop, and that is the whole record — nothing on whether the sexes are separated, how many stalls there are, or what state it is in. Twenty-nine of the thirty posts were too busy counting side dishes to look. This is not "there is none." It is "one person looked."
No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know
- They appear to have stopped doing weekday lunch. From June 2025 to February 2026, twenty-one posts give a noon opening with a break from two until five, and half of those posts are there for the squid-and-pork lunch set (₩11,000, later ₩12,000). But the five posts from July to September 2026 give a weekday opening of 16:30 with no break, and not one of them mentions the lunch set at all. Weekends still start at noon. A single July 2026 post repeats the old hours, word for word from the same blogger's own February post. If you are going at lunchtime, ring first — and note that two writers say the lunch set is limited and stops when the day's portion runs out.
- Thirty posts are not thirty tables. They arrive in two crowds: twelve between mid-January and the end of February 2026, all about the same lunch set; five in the week of 6–12 July 2026, all about the galbi. Of that July five, two order exactly the same thing — two portions of galbi, one spicy, one gristle-rib — on the same day, and read as two write-ups of one table. Four recite the seventy-two-hour ageing and the two-three-four ladder in almost the same order. We kept them: the bodies differ and each records a real meal. But a crowd arriving at once is hard to read as coincidence. Strip those seventeen out and what remains is thirteen posts scattered across fifteen months.
- Nobody writes about getting here without a car. No bus, no stop, no mention of the station, in any of thirty posts. Every set of directions hangs on the same apartment estate — the lane in front of it, the building behind the one facing its main gate, the pocket of low shop buildings between the blocks. Eleven posts talk about driving, about the one space and the lanes; not one line describes walking. This is not a finding that transit is poor. It is a record that no one said. What the posts do say, repeatedly, is that the customers are neighbours and office parties, not visitors — which makes walking likely, and makes the silence about it stranger.
