Danbaek

단백 Danbaek is the Korean word for protein (literally egg white); one post says the menu explains where the name comes from, but none of the posts spells it out.

Danbaek is a black-pork neck place on the second floor above the Beomhada raw-fish restaurant in Goseong-ri, Seongsan. The owner grills a single portion (about 250 g) and sets it on your own brazier, and you eat at a bar wrapped around the open kitchen. Potato salad and rice are free; sides are aged-kimchi stew at 2,000 won and marinated tomatoes at 5,000 won. Posts keep coming back to it as somewhere you can eat grilled pork alone. It used to be on a ground floor near Seongsan Ilchulbong and moved into the space once used by its sister pub, Danbaek Pocha. We read 13 posts from December 2024 to October 2026; 9 of them, from March 2025 on, describe a visit.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. All seating is at the bar. Five posts describe bar seating, one as a square counter around the open kitchen. Two say the room is small; one says groups of up to four can manage.
  2. You book ahead. Six posts say they reserved, and two say Naver booking runs in 30-minute slots. One writer who walked in got a slot 30 minutes later by luck and thought eating without a booking would be hard.
  3. Three posts went alone and one with a friend. One solo diner said everyone there that night was eating alone. Two posts say even a pair gets one brazier each.
  4. You don't grill yourself. Three posts say the owner cooks the pork and sets it on your brazier; one notes mushrooms laid underneath so it heats slowly, another a candle to keep it warm.
2 more
  1. Six posts mention potato salad as the free starter; two got refills, one saying they usually go through three.
  2. Three posts say the portion is generous; one contrasts it with black-pork places that make solo diners order two portions. Three posts also say it is not expensive.

Parking

Posts saying you cannot1 of 9 posts

One post says there's no lot of its own and to use the Goseong public car park; two other posts only copy that line from the listing.

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Getting inside

Second floor2 of 9 posts

Two posts place it on the second floor; none mention a basement.

Two posts say you climb stairs to the second floor, one calling them fairly steep. No one mentions a lift or the entrance step, so we don't know whether a wheelchair or stroller can get in.

We don't know where the toilet is or whether it is split by gender. Nobody wrote about it.

No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 10 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • The restaurant moved here. A March 2025 post says this space used to be Danbaek Pocha, which closed when Danbaek moved in; a May 2025 post first visited when it was near Seongsan Ilchulbong. Every visit we counted is after the move. The registered name, Danbaek Pocha, belongs to the closed pub.
  • The pork price varies by date: 25,000 won per person in a February 2025 visit, 24,000 won for 250 g in August and September 2026. A May 2025 post gives 260–270 g but no price.
  • One post took the bus back to Jeju City and another a taxi after dinner. No one says how far the stop is.
  • No post describes a queue. It runs on bookings; the one walk-in waited for a slot 30 minutes later.
  • Opening hours are only copied from the listing, and the three copies differ: 17:00–22:00 (21:00 Sundays) and closed Mondays in May 2025; daily 17:00–22:00 with last order 20:30 in August 2026; daily 16:30–22:00 in October 2026. One post says it opened only Sunday to Wednesday in one particular week. Two posts tell readers to check Naver.
  • Two posts give the phone as 0507-1360-9571 and one as 0507-1360-8571. Several say booking is done through Naver.
  • No post discloses sponsorship, though one says it went again 'through a good opportunity', and a December 2024 reviewer-recruitment roundup also turned up (we couldn't read it in full and didn't count it).
