Grill houseKorean

Sukseongdo Jungmun-jeom

숙성도 중문점 Sukseongdo literally means 'degree of aging' — the house dry-ages Jeju pork for 560 to 960 hours, the numbers printed in front of its menu names.

Compiled from 25 blog posts read in fullSources →

Sukseongdo Jungmun is an aged-black-pork grill house occupying an entire three-storey building at 1101 Iljuseo-ro, Sangye-dong, Seogwipo. The first two floors are dining rooms; a souvenir shop called Damgil sits on top. Pork belly or neck aged 720 hours costs 23,000 won per 200 g, the 960-hour bone-in loin 39,000 won for 350 g; kimchi stew comes free and staff grill the meat for you start to finish. This building is a move — posts describe an earlier, smaller shop at 966 Iljuseo-ro. We read 30 posts dated 13 September to 22 October 2026; we set aside 4 about other places, and 25 describe actually eating here.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Staff do the grilling. Of 24 posts that say what they ate, 21 say an employee cooked the meat from start to finish. Once it is done, staff assemble a first bite — pork with pollock roe, wasabi and chamnamul — and one post notes you can ask them to skip the roe. Another describes the griller keeping an eye on several tables at once.
  2. Expect to wait at dinner. Of 23 posts that cover waiting, 12 found a queue and 3 walked straight in (a rainy day, after the lunch rush). Waits given: 40 minutes arriving at 6 pm on a Friday, an hour with no plan, and a weekday remote-queue entry at 5:46 pm called in around 6:10. Nearly every post advises joining CatchTable's remote queue before setting out; one warns that postponing your turn sends you to the back.
  3. A reservation skips the line. Five posts booked ahead through Naver or CatchTable and did not wait. One mentions a 30,000-won deposit refunded after the meal, and getting a same-day slot by setting an alert for cancellations.
  4. Nine posts mention a self-serve corner for lettuce, white kimchi and pickles. One says leftovers incur a 5,000-won waste fee; another that extra pollock roe and kimchi stew are charged.
2 more
  1. Nine posts called the pork juicy; one disagreed, saying it was more about flavour than juiciness.
  2. Four posts came with children. They mention a high chair and a microwave, staff bringing child-sized cutlery, and a separate mild soybean soup for the child.

Getting inside

Second floor7 of 25 posts
Lift to the floor1 of 25 posts
Toilet inside1 of 25 posts

There is seating on two floors. Seven posts were seated upstairs; they describe the second floor as quieter with a view down to the main hall, a window seat with a distant sea view, and a private room upstairs that held a party of eight.

We don't know about floors and stairs. One post took a lift up to the souvenir shop; nobody says whether there is a basement or whether the second-floor dining room is reached by stairs.

Nobody says whether the entrance has a step or whether a wheelchair or stroller gets in — not even the post with a seven-month-old. That means unknown, not absent.

One post says the toilets are inside; another mentions a baby-changing table and mouthwash there. Nobody mentions separate men's and women's rooms or an accessible toilet.

No one mentioned: In a basement · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 26 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Don't mix the old shop with the new one. Two posts call the current building a relocation. One post gives the address as 966 Iljuseo-ro, parking as cramped, hours as 11:00–21:00 with a 15:00–16:30 break, and the upstairs as adults-only — we treat it as the old shop and left it out of the waiting, parking and hours counts. Another visitor returning after three years was startled by how much had changed. No post says when the move happened.
  • Nobody describes getting here by bus. Posts drove, used a designated driver, or walked from a nearby hotel.
  • Eleven posts list the same hours, 11:30–22:00, and four give last orders at 21:00 — all copied from listing blocks, not observed. One says it is open every day of the year. Posts note on-site queue registration starts at 11:00, before opening.
  • From copied menus: 720-hour cuts 23,000 won per 200 g, the 960-hour bone-in loin 39,000 won, hairtail fried rice 8,000 won, cold noodles 9,000 won. Three posts call it expensive. One family of three paid 54,000 won for two portions of neck, pot rice and a cola; a table of six ran up nearly 400,000 won. The bone-in neck is listed at 38,000 won in a summer post and 39,000 won in an October one.
  • The 960-hour cuts sell out by evening. Several posts switched to belly or neck because the bone-in loin, bone-in neck and butterflied rib were gone; one saw four items marked sold out around 7 pm.
  • Seven posts give the phone number as 0507-1316-5213, two as 064-739-5213. Most booked through CatchTable or Naver; one says group reservations go through the shop by phone.
  • Posts disagree on which floor the Damgil souvenir shop is on — most say the third (top) floor, three say the second. All agree it is a good way to pass the wait.
