Soup and riceKorean

Ujin Haejangguk

우진해장국 Haejangguk means a hangover-chasing soup; Ujin (Woojin) is a proper name, and none of the posts says what it means.

Compiled from 23 blog posts read in fullSources →

Ujin Haejangguk sits at 11 Seosa-ro in old downtown Jeju City, about ten minutes by car from the airport. It serves gosari yukgaejang, a pork-and-bracken soup cooked down to a porridge-like thickness, and momguk, a pork soup with gulfweed, both 11,000 won, plus a 17,000-won mung bean pancake. The soup comes with rice and side dishes. About 20 m away on Jungang-ro 14-gil there is an annex, signed Ujin Gosari Yukgaejang, where you eat upstairs and the ground floor handles frozen takeout and nationwide shipping. We read 30 posts dated 16 September to 21 October 2026. 24 describe a visit, 4 are info roundups copied from public listings, and 2 turned out to be about other businesses. A post about visits in January and July 2025 gives the soup at 10,000 won.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Expect to wait. Of the 24 visit posts, 21 say they waited and 1 walked straight in at dinnertime. At the main building people logged an hour at 7 a.m. with ticket 84, an hour and a half around 8:30, an hour around 11 a.m. on a weekday, an hour and a half at noon with ticket 374, and an hour at 4 p.m. on a Tuesday. At the annex the waits were 13–15 minutes on a Sunday morning, 20 minutes at 2:30 p.m. on a Friday and 30 minutes at 1 p.m. The main building hands out paper tickets at the counter and staff call numbers over a speaker; one writer warns that if you are not there, they skip you. The annex takes names through CatchTable and messages you on KakaoTalk, and several posts suggest signing up at both. The post that got in with no wait at 7 a.m. had given up the day before at 9:30. Three posts say you cannot book ahead.
  2. There is a separate waiting room. Twelve posts mention it. They call it an indoor room that is fine in cold or hot weather, and one says it is air-conditioned. One post says the number calls can be heard both there and in the self-service café next door. Another found it too crowded and suggests the outdoor chairs out front.
  3. Seating is tight. Six posts say the place is not roomy. In the main building tables sit so close that you are practically eating with your neighbour, and the annex's upstairs room feels cramped because the seats are packed together. One post found the main building larger than expected, split into several rooms, but still with little space between tables, so we leave that one undecided. Staff seat people in order, and posts mention being split from your party or sharing a table.
  4. Takeout runs on its own track. Seven posts mention it. They say takeout skips the queue, and one writer took the soup back to their room because it came out right away. One post says you need the frozen version if you are flying, and another carried some home for a husband.

Parking

11 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

Posts saying you can park11 of 23 posts

Parking means the Byeongmuncheon public lot right in front. All 11 posts that cover parking used it, and several say the restaurant registers an hour or gives a discount ticket if you eat there. One post counts roughly 40–50 spaces on both sides. Another calls the lot small for how popular the place is: cars poured in with no attendant, and the writer, a new driver, was sweating. Some posts say it was free on Sunday or early in the morning.

Getting inside

Second floor4 of 23 posts
Lift to the floor1 of 23 posts
Separate restroomsyes 0 · no 1 (of 23 posts read)

At the annex you eat on the second floor. Four posts describe it: when the text says you can come in, you go upstairs, and the ground floor is the frozen-takeout and shipping counter. One post says they took an elevator up. Another estimates the upstairs room seats about ten groups.

No one says which floor the main building is on or whether there are steps. The "1st floor" in the address is copied text, and every post that mentions floors is describing the annex's second floor.

No one mentions a step at the door or getting in with a wheelchair or stroller. That means we do not know, not that there is none. One post says the annex has an elevator.

No one says whether the restroom is inside the restaurant. One post just notes there is one, and another says it is a single-occupancy room and a bit inconvenient.

No one mentioned: In a basement · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 27 posts we gathered, 4 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

2026-10-203 posts in one day

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • People disagree on saltiness. Three posts found it salty, including the one that ate takeout and called it far too salty. One said it was not a salty style, and one thought the first spoonful was salty but got used to it, so we count that one as undecided.
  • Prices have gone up. A post about January and July 2025 visits lists the bracken soup, momguk and beef-bone soup at 10,000 won and the pancake at 15,000. Posts from September 2026 on give 11,000 and 17,000. The beef-bone soup was on the menu in 2025, but 2026 visitors list only three dishes; info posts that still show it are copying old listings. A meal is one 11,000-won bowl, and one couple found a soup plus a pancake enough for two at breakfast. No post calls it expensive, and one calls it very cheap.
  • Eleven visit posts give the same hours for the main building, 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.; one of them is a copied listing. Two say it never closes, but info posts list closures over the Lunar New Year and Chuseok holidays, so check around those. The annex is listed as 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., closed Tuesdays, and some writers waited longer at the main building because the annex was shut that day.
  • Many posts give the same phone number for the main building, 064-757-3393, and one gives 064-755-5050 for the annex. Three posts say there are no reservations, only on-site tickets or the CatchTable queue. One post says nationwide shipping orders go through KakaoTalk (woojin064), and another says delivery can take a month or two.
  • No post describes arriving by bus or other public transport. Some walked four to six minutes from a nearby hotel; the rest came by rental car or taxi.
