Korean

Onggeunjip

옹근집 Onggeun comes from the native Korean word onggeulda, 'whole, complete, nothing missing' — read as a house that sets out a complete table; one post says the owner's son chose the name.

Compiled from 21 blog posts read in fullSources →

Onggeunjip is a Jeju home-style set-meal restaurant on the second floor of 201 Yeonbuk-ro, Jeju City, above a Twosome Place cafe. Twenty of the 21 visit posts ate the Onggeun hansang (16,000 won per person, two minimum): grilled tilefish, sliced boiled pork, pot rice and top-shell or sea-urchin seaweed soup, with side dishes such as soy-marinated crab, spicy squid salad and pancakes; several posts say one whole tilefish comes per person. You scoop out the rice and pour water into the pot for scorched-rice tea. It sits 10–15 minutes by car from the airport, so many visitors were families and groups on their first or last meal in Jeju. We read 22 posts dated April 2025 to October 2026, 21 of them from actual visits.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Fourteen posts call the hall spacious and seven mention private rooms. One post, from November 2025, disagrees: tables packed close together and no private space.
  2. Nine posts say the boiled pork had no gamey smell, and three say it was cut thick. On the tilefish, three posts found it lightly seasoned and one found it a little salty.
  3. Seventeen posts say you get a lot for the money. One spells out the arithmetic: tilefish alone is 20,000 won and the pork 35,000, yet the set with both is 16,000.
  4. Seven posts came with children and four mention high chairs. Several describe kids eating well, finishing the seaweed soup or both pots of rice tea.

  1. Three posts note the set requires at least two diners; one suggests single dishes like abalone porridge if you are alone.

Posts saying you can park14 of 21 posts

Fourteen posts say you can park, nine of them calling the lot large. They describe it differently: about twelve spaces in front of the building, a big lot behind it, spaces in front and to the side. Several note this is unusual for downtown Jeju.

Getting inside

Second floor13 of 21 posts

The restaurant is upstairs: thirteen posts mention going up to the second floor, two of them by the stairs. Three posts say the Twosome Place downstairs gives 10% off with your receipt (a neighbour's offer, not counted).

No post says whether a wheelchair or stroller got in, or whether there is a lift or ramp. Two mention climbing stairs to the second floor; that does not mean there is no lift, only that nobody said.

No one describes the toilets from experience. Two posts copy listing info saying they are inside and separated by gender; we did not count that.

No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 22 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Nobody describes getting there by bus or on foot. Everyone who mentions the journey drove, 10–15 minutes from the airport.
  • No post reports waiting. One says tables filled quickly with groups at lunch, another that the room was about to fill with a group booking just after 11. Four posts went with a reservation.
  • Air conditioning is split: a March 2025 visit found it hot and was told the unit could not run because it had not been cleaned, while an August 2026 post says it was blasting.
  • Opening hours: every post from November 2025 on gives 10:00–21:00 with a 15:00–17:00 break, most adding last orders at 20:00 and Sundays closed. Two posts from July and October 2025 say 21:30, so closing seems to have moved earlier in between. Two posts say open daily, which conflicts with the Sunday closure. Most of this is copied listing info, so check before going.
  • Prices for individual dishes come mainly from one post copying the August 2026 menu; only the 16,000-won set price is confirmed across many posts.
  • Nine posts give the same phone number, 064-711-1010. Four went with a reservation but none say how they booked.
  • Nine posts from June to October 2026 repeat the same lines about eco-friendly ingredients and the owner making everything by hand, with the same hashtags. They look commissioned, though only one says it was a sponsored visit and one a planned feature. We treat the eco and handmade claims as the restaurant's own words and did not count them.
