Korean

Biwon Samgyetang

비원삼계탕 Biwon (秘苑, written on the wooden plaque at the entrance) means 'secret garden'; samgyetang is chicken soup with ginseng and glutinous rice.

Compiled from 7 blog posts read in fullSources →

A samgyetang house on Sumogwon-gil in Nohyeong-dong, Jeju City, across from Halla Arboretum. The menu is just three items: samgyetang, galbitang and stir-fried chicken gizzards, at 19,000, 17,000 and 10,000 won in 2026 posts. Post after post describes a thick, milky broth clouded with glutinous rice over a layer of porridge. We read 10 posts from July 2025 to October 2026; 7 of them record actually eating there.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Four posts went with children: one says a five- and seven-year-old ignored the galbitang ordered for them and ate the samgyetang; another says two kids split and finished one bowl. Four posts went with family.
  2. Five posts call the hall spacious; one saw a first-birthday party being booked and took that as the reason, another noted it is two storeys. Three mention window views of trees or the garden.
  3. Three posts say extra side dishes (green peppers, kkakdugi, cabbage kimchi) are self-serve; one says onions used to come to the table and are now self-serve.
  4. Three posts call the portions large, two about the samgyetang and one about the gizzards; one took leftovers home and reheated them.

The prices here are what bloggers wrote down in their posts, and they may have changed since. Check Naver Place for the current menu and prices. This list is not a menu board — it counts what bloggers actually ordered and ate. Check on Naver Place

Parking

3 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

Three posts describe the large lot first-hand: one compared it to a forest recreation area, another said having its own lot at a standalone building made it easy. Three more list a big lot only in a copied info header.

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Getting inside

Second floor1 of 7 posts

One post says the restaurant spans two floors; no one said which floor they ate on or whether stairs were involved.

No one mentioned an entrance step, wheelchair or stroller access, or a lift. That means we don't know, not that there is none.

No one described where the toilets are or whether they are separated by gender.

No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 10 posts we gathered, 3 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Prices went up: 18,000 won for samgyetang and 15,000 for galbitang in an August 2025 post, 19,000 and 17,000 in July and September 2026. Views split two to one: two posts said it was worth the money, one said it wasn't. One party of six paid 91,000 won.
  • One post disagrees: in July 2026 a writer found the samgyetang porridge-like, the galbitang sprout-heavy and the kimchi poor, and said they wouldn't return. Three posts describe coming back repeatedly.
  • Only one post mentions a wait: on Chobok, the first dog-day of summer, a line started forming about 30 minutes after the writer arrived. No one wrote about waits on ordinary days.
  • No one described getting there by bus; going by the parking talk, most writers drove.
  • Every post that says who they went with went with family; no one wrote about going alone, with friends or on a date.
  • Four posts give the same hours, daily 10:30 to 21:00 with last orders at 20:00, but three copied them into an info header. Apart from one post noting a closure on Chuseok 2026, no one mentioned regular days off.
  • Four posts give the same phone number, 064-712-8899. On booking, one post saw a first-birthday party being reserved; no one booked a regular meal themselves.
  • An October 2026 post from a real-estate agency blog only repackaged tourism-board listings, so we didn't count it. Claims like 'second generation', halal certification and four-year Geumsan ginseng are the restaurant's own signage, not evidence.
