Ieodo Jeonbok Haemul Jeonmunjeom

이어도전복해물전문점 Ieodo is the legendary island of Jeju folklore; the rest of the name simply says 'abalone and seafood specialist'.

Compiled from 23 blog posts read in fullSources →

A seafood-stew house at Taepyeong-ro 485 in Donghong-dong, Seogwipo, close to the Seogwipo Maeil Olle Market. The centrepiece is a pot of live octopus and live abalone boiled at the table: ₩60,000 for the small (two people), ₩75,000 medium, ₩90,000 large, ₩110,000 extra-large. Once it boils, the owner or staff cut up the octopus, crab and abalone and serve them in order, and most meals end with instant noodles cooked in the leftover broth. It opens at 10 a.m., and four posts came for breakfast or brunch. We read 26 posts from October 2024 to September 2026; 24 record an actual meal. One was a hotel review and was set aside, and one was a scraped list of restaurants that we did not count.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. They do the work for you. Of the 24 posts that ate here, 19 say the owner or staff cut up the seafood at the table. The octopus comes out first because it toughens if cooked long, then scallop, abalone, crab and shrimp, shelled and placed on your plate. Two posts add that this happens when it isn't busy; both went at quiet times (a weekday at 4:30 p.m., and as the first customers).
  2. Nineteen of the 24 posts call the portions large. Posts counted five or more, and seven or eight, live abalone in a small pot, and about ten in a large one. One diner's friend asked whether this was really the small; another reckoned the small feeds two or three.
  3. Fourteen posts say the room is large, with generous spacing between tables. One mentions both floor seating and tables, and one saw a high chair. Several describe it as an old neighbourhood restaurant; one says the interior is neither sleek nor modern.
  4. Six posts say the house-made side dishes are refilled — one had three plates of anchovies, one used a self-serve bar, and some had the broth topped up when it reduced.

Parking

10 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

Posts saying you can park10 of 23 posts

Ten posts say you can park, but they disagree on how much space there is. Three describe a big lot or a dedicated lot behind the building; one says there is room for about one car out front and the rest is alley parking, which was hard for a new driver. One adds the rear lot may fill at mealtimes; others point to nearby public lots.

Where it is

Map showing where Ieodo Jeonbok Haemul Jeonmunjeom is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Getting inside

No post describes which floor it is on or whether there are stairs; only the address says ground floor.

No post says whether there is a step at the entrance or whether a wheelchair or stroller fits. That means we don't know, not that it's impossible. One post notes you keep your shoes on.

No post mentions where the toilet is or whether it is separated by gender.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 24 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • On price, posts split one to six. One says it costs more because it's a tourist area and is a stretch unless you come as a group; six say ₩60,000 for the small seemed a lot until they saw how much food there was. One more calls it not cheap but fair. One couple's meal (small pot, rice and noodles) came to ₩64,000.
  • No post mentions waiting. Two say there was no queue — a Friday evening and a weekday at 4:30 p.m. — and one booked ahead for a weekend lunch. Nobody reports on peak times, so we don't know how long the wait gets.
  • Sixteen posts give opening hours, nearly all copied from a listing: 15 say 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., one says from 11 a.m. Fourteen say it closes on the first and third Wednesday of each month.
  • Many posts give the same phone number, 064-733-0345. One post booked a weekend lunch ahead.
  • Three posts from July 2026 were told the octopus was frozen because of the seasonal fishing ban, so in summer it may not be live.
  • One summer post says it was hot even with the air conditioning running hard — the pots boil at every table.
  • About eleven posts repeat the same phrases (25 years in business, natural seasoning only) and the same hashtag set; only two disclose sponsorship. We treat the no-MSG and 25-year claims as the restaurant's own words, not as evidence.
  • No post arrived by bus. One walked over from the Olle Market, about five minutes; we don't know about stops or routes.
