Korean

Keunjip Eomeong

큰집어멍 Keunjip eomeong is Jeju dialect for 'the mother of the big house' — keunjip is the eldest branch's family home and eomeong means mother.

Compiled from 28 blog posts read in fullSources →

A seafood Korean restaurant in a large standalone building at 336 Jungmungwangwang-ro, at the entrance to the Jungmun resort area in Seogwipo. The signature is abalone seafood hotpot (small, for two, 50,000 won), alongside braised octopus and hairtail (small 50,000) and whole grilled hairtail (small 60,000). Rice doesn't come with the hotpot, so you order pot rice for 2,000 won; around ten free side dishes, including a kimchi pancake, are set out. Many posts say it opens at 9 a.m. We read 30 posts from June 2025 to September 2026, 29 of them first-hand visits. Seventeen posts from April 2026 on repeat the same set of search keywords and look like commissioned pieces; three disclose sponsorship.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. They prep the hotpot for you. Of 29 visits, 20 say a server or the owner came over once it boiled and cut up the abalone, octopus and pen shell, and several were told to eat the octopus first before it toughens. Those who ordered the grilled hairtail say staff deboned and portioned it. One May 2026 post says they were only told to start with the octopus and cut it themselves.
  2. People are struck by the size of the small. Eight posts call the portion large, and 'this is the small?' comes up again and again. One counted four shrimp and eight abalone (two each) in the large for four; two counted six abalone in the small for two. Six posts say it isn't expensive.
  3. The walls are covered in celebrity autographs. Six posts saw them by the counter or along one wall; one also noticed the owner's cooking-competition certificates. Two saw the origin-of-ingredients board.
  4. There's free instant coffee on the way out — four posts mention coffee and water set out near the entrance.

  1. It works for children. Four posts went with kids and four saw high chairs; one says that after mentioning a baby when booking, they found baby tableware and a high chair already set out. Three mention a semi-private room.

Parking

Getting inside

Toilet inside1 of 28 posts

We don't know the floor layout. Posts call it a standalone building but none mention floors or stairs.

We don't know about steps at the entrance or wheelchair access. One post thought the wide room looked stroller-friendly, but didn't actually bring one, so we didn't count it.

Only one September 2026 post says the restroom is inside the restaurant. Separate men's and women's restrooms appear only in a copied info block, so we didn't count it.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 29 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Whether the hotpot is spicy is split: two posts say it isn't, while six only call it peppery or hearty without saying it's hot. Two describe the broth as soybean-paste based.
  • We don't know how to get there by bus. Nearly every post drove a rental car, and one took a taxi about ten minutes from its hotel; none mention a bus stop.
  • We don't know about waits. Two posts that went around 5 p.m. or mid-afternoon didn't wait; one that arrived near noon only says it was busy. The only mention of mealtime queues is hearsay, so we didn't count it. Two posts booked ahead.
  • Companions: a partner or spouse in five posts, family with kids in four, a group of four adults in one. No post says it went with friends — not that it's unsuitable, just that nobody wrote about it.
  • Twenty-five posts give the same hours, 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., though nearly all copy them from a listing. The closing day varies: second and fourth Tuesdays in ten posts, every other Tuesday in two, third and fourth Tuesdays in two, every Tuesday in one, second and fourth Sundays in one. Posts up to January 2026 said open every day; from June 2026 they list a Tuesday closure. Check before going on a Tuesday.
  • Prices are mostly consistent, with two exceptions: one May 2026 post lists the small hotpot at 40,000 won and one September 2026 post the large at 85,000, against 50,000 and 80,000 elsewhere. For two, a small hotpot with two pots of rice comes to 54,000 won.
  • Two phone numbers appear: 064-739-8295 in seven posts and 0507-1363-8299 in five. One post booked by phone.
