Raw fishKorean

Keungaenmul Hoetjip

큰갯물횟집 Keun gaetmul means 'big tidewater' — gaetmul is the seawater that runs into an inlet or harbour — and hoetjip means a raw-fish restaurant.

Compiled from 24 blog posts read in fullSources →

A sashimi house in a two-storey building right on Daepo harbour in Seogwipo. Order live fish by the kilo or as a set for the table and a long run of courses follows: abalone porridge, side plates of raw mackerel, abalone and sea squirt, fried dishes, sweet-and-sour fish and grilled prawns, then spicy fish stew with stone-pot rice and a tomato dessert. We read 30 posts dated 27 April to 22 October 2026; 25 describe actually eating there. Red sea bream and longtooth grouper (gumunjaengi) were each ordered in four posts, wild yellowback sea bream in three. Prices given: a 50,000-won lunch sashimi course per person, mulhoe at 20,000-30,000 won, stew for two at 50,000 won, braised cutlassfish at 60,000 won.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. The windows look onto the harbour: 21 posts say they ate facing the sea. One mentions the red lighthouse and moored yachts; another says the big windows open fully so you eat in the sea breeze.
  2. The ground floor is private rooms: 11 posts ate in one or describe them, and one family says it meant not worrying when their child got noisy. One post claims every table is a room, but the others describe the upper floor as an open hall for groups.
  3. Portions are large, according to 20 posts. Two counted 30 or more side dishes, one said the table looked ready to buckle, and several were full before the sashimi even arrived.
  4. Opinions on price split. Three posts call it expensive — one paid around 300,000 won, another hesitated at 60,000 won for braised cutlassfish. Two found it reasonable, one of them a sponsored post. Live fish is market-priced, so exact figures are rare; one post paid in the 200,000s for four.
3 more
  1. Ten posts came with family, often with parents; one notes the floor seats have backrests, so parents who struggle sitting on the floor were comfortable.
  2. Six posts saw celebrity autographs by the entrance themselves. Hearsay such as 'a famous TV host's favourite' we did not count.
  3. Six posts booked ahead — one asked for a window seat, another booked an early 4 pm dinner and didn't wait at all.

Parking

Posts saying you can park13 of 24 posts

Thirteen posts parked in the restaurant's own lot out front. The claim that coaches fit too mostly comes from copied info boxes. The restaurant's own blog advertises free pick-up from Jungmun resort hotels for diners who want to drink, and one visitor confirms they do pick-ups.

Getting inside

Second floor14 of 24 posts
In a basementyes 0 · no 5 (of 24 posts read)

Upstairs is a large hall for groups: 14 posts mention the second floor, and one says sliding doors can split it into separate rooms. In September 2026 one diner was told at lunchtime that the upper floor wasn't open yet and was seated downstairs — ask ahead if you want the upper floor.

Five posts say they sat on the ground floor. The restaurant occupies the ground and first floors; nobody mentions going downstairs.

No post says whether there is a step at the entrance, whether a wheelchair or pushchair gets in, or whether there is a lift to the upper floor. That means nobody wrote about it, not that the answer is no.

No post mentions where the toilets are or whether they are separated by gender.

No one mentioned: Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 29 posts we gathered, 5 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Most posts follow one template. The August-October 2026 posts share numbered headings, the same opening-hours box and the same course order from porridge to tomato dessert. Only three disclose sponsorship or advertising; the other 22 visit posts say nothing. Lines like 'the owner catches the fish on his own boat' and 'only Korean chilli powder' echo the restaurant's own blog posts, so we treat them as the restaurant's claims, not evidence.
  • No post arrived by bus or other public transport; everyone who described the trip drove, quoting a few minutes by car from the Jungmun resort area.
  • No post reports waiting. One warns that walk-ins may queue at peak dinner time, but that is hearsay and we did not count it; nobody recorded a wait time.
  • Twenty visit posts give the same opening hours — daily 11:50 to 22:00, last order 21:00 — but all copy them from an info box rather than observing them. 'Open every day, no break time' is copied too. Seogwipo City's 2026 Chuseok listing shows it open 24-27 September.
  • Two phone numbers circulate: 0507-1384-1625 (the restaurant's blog and several posts) and 064-738-1625 (two posts). Bookings are taken by phone, according to one post.
  • Abalone mulhoe is listed at 25,000 won in a June 2026 post and 30,000 won in September; with only two posts we can't tell whether the price rose or the dish differs. Set prices for live fish are market-rate and rarely written down.
