Tropical Hideaway

트로피컬 하이드어웨이 Teuropikeol Haideueowei Tropical Hideaway is plain English for a tropical retreat; the café sits on the ground floor of a small hotel of the same name and is decorated like a Southeast Asian resort.

Compiled from 26 blog posts read in fullSources →

A brunch café on the ground floor of a small seafront hotel on Hyeongje Coastal Road in Daejeong, Seogwipo, looking straight out at Hyeongje Island. Floor two is the Dokkaebi select shop; floors three and four are the hotel's rooms. The most-ordered dishes were shakshuka (16,000 won, twelve posts) and the breaky fry-up (17,500 won, ten posts); several of the fifteen posts that ordered an americano (6,000 won) mentioned its dolphin-shaped ice. Two brunch plates and two drinks came to a little over 40,000 won at September 2026 prices. Four posts ordered at a kiosk. We read 30 posts from 15 August to 22 October 2026; 26 record an actual visit, including four by hotel guests who ate breakfast here.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Seventeen posts wrote about the sea through the glass, many repeating the same view: Hyeongje Island ahead, Sanbangsan to the left, Songaksan to the right. One said the sea is visible from every seat; another noted the window seats get glaring on sunny days and moved there only once clouds came over.
  2. Eight posts found the portions large, mostly couples sharing the shakshuka and the fry-up. The one exception was the affogato (7,500 won), which a post found disappointingly small for the price.
  3. Four posts noticed many foreign customers, one adding that they were busy buying hats and bags in the shop upstairs.
  4. Six posts came with children and two used the high chairs; two of them had seven-month-old babies, and one shared the fry-up's eggs, potatoes and bread with the baby.

Getting inside

In a basementyes 0 · no 7 (of 26 posts read)
Lift to the floor2 of 26 posts
Step-free access1 of 26 posts
Toilet inside1 of 26 posts

The café is on the ground floor; seven posts ate there, and two took the lift up to the second-floor shop. One said drinks can also be taken out to the second-floor terrace.

Only one post speaks to getting in: a family chose the café because it was easy to enter with a stroller. Nobody described the entrance step or a ramp; the 'wheelchair accessible' line in some posts is copied from the listing and we did not count it.

Only one post mentions the toilet, saying it is inside and clean. Separate men's and women's toilets appear only in a copied info block, which we did not count.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 30 posts we gathered, 4 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

2026-10-222 posts in one day

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Posts disagree on the shakshuka's heat: five called it mildly spicy, two said it was mild enough to share with a child. Two said it was not greasy despite the cheese.
  • Only one post mentions waiting: around noon on a Sunday there was a short queue to order and some groups waited for tables. Nobody else wrote about waiting, which is not the same as there being none. One post said the food came quicker than expected.
  • No post arrived by bus; people came by car, or by bike or on foot from the Songaksan trail. That is a gap in what people wrote, not evidence that public transport is impractical.
  • Twelve posts gave opening hours, all copied from info blocks: eleven say 9:00 to 19:00 (the eight that give a last order say 18:00), one says 8:00 to 20:00. Two say it opens every day. Hotel breakfast runs separately, 8:30 to 10:00.
  • Six posts list the phone number as 0507-1348-1461; one each gives 064-792-1461 and 0507-1460-1461. No post says whether reservations are taken.
  • All the prices come from two posts in September 2026. Two posts say hotel guests get a discount on food, one specifying 20% off excluding drinks. On value, one post found the affogato overpriced and another found prices better than expected.
  • Some posts look commissioned: four share an identical run of six hashtags, one is tagged as sponsored and one says the food was provided. All of them record eating here so we counted them, but weigh their similar praise lightly. Two hotel promo posts with no visit were not counted.
