Bukmyeon Masan Seolleongtang
북면마산설렁탕 A roadside ox-bone soup house below the Bukmyeon hot springs, where most people order the red bowl.
Data as of · Published ·
Bukmyeon Masan Seolleongtang stands in its own roadside building on the way up to the hot-spring quarter of Bukmyeon, in Changwon. The name says ox-bone soup, but twenty-two of the twenty-eight writers ordered the red one — the same broth turned hot with chilli, closer in looks to yukgaejang. The plain bowl, a deeper one with jujube and ginseng, knuckle, oxtail and boiled beef platters are all on the board. Order a dish and a bowl of rice comes free with it; sweet rice punch and coffee wait by the door for afterwards. Half past nine in the morning until nine at night, closed between three and five in the afternoon. There is a car park in front. Masan Seolleongtang is a name with several branches around Changwon; this is the Bukmyeon one. The posts we read run from April 2025 to September 2026.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart
- At lunch and at weekends you wait. There is a paper list at the door — no kiosk, no app — and you write your name on it. One family waited ten minutes on a Saturday at twenty to twelve; another writer found the room full, signed and waited; a third arrived at half past eleven to a full house. Those who came off the hour — half past two, four o'clock, early evening — walked in. Eight writers note how fast soup turns the tables over, and four of those add that the queue therefore never grows long. Mind the afternoon closing, three to five: coming off the lunch hour means half past two, or after five.
- Sweet rice punch and coffee stand by the till, and you help yourself. No post says either is charged for. Eighteen writers mention the sikhye, most of them as what follows the hot bowl — sweet after fierce. One drank two cups; one says she now comes to this branch because the others often have none. One warns that at weekends it runs out, so come early. One finds it too sweet.
- Masan Seolleongtang is a name with several branches in Changwon, and people rank them. One writer sets out his own order — Bukmyeon first, then Daetgeori, then Jungang-dong, then Hoeseong-dong — and says the bowls differ from branch to branch. Another puts it more bluntly: there is one in Naeseo and one by the university, and somehow this one is the best. A third notes in passing that it is a chain. All twenty-eight posts we kept name this address, this phone number, or the red bowl that is on this branch's board.
- You order and pay from a tablet at the table, and it is new. A November 2025 post records finding it for the first time and being glad of it — the staff had been too busy to take money quickly. A March 2026 post says the tablets appeared not long before; a June 2026 post says the same. You pay first, choosing card, cash or a split, and the board on screen is divided into meals, takeaway and platters, with photographs.
- There are three high chairs, and they bring a child's bowl with a small spoon and fork. Two writers came with children; both found the tables far enough apart to set a high chair down. One salted the plain broth lightly and shared it; one cut the radish kimchi up with scissors, finding it mild enough. The red bowl, though, is written up as too hot for a child. Tables seat four, with sixes and eights made by pushing them together.

Parking
19 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.
| Posts saying you can park | 19 of 27 posts |

There is a car park of its own out front, and at lunch it fills. One writer counts room for more than ten cars. Three others record leaving the car on the verge or on the open ground further up because there was no space, and one says you sometimes wait for a space to free. A sundae restaurant faces it across the road, and three writers describe the two of them filling the street at midday. Parking and queueing here are the same problem.

Getting there

Getting inside
| Toilet inside | 1 of 27 posts |
|---|
No post mentions the floor. The registered address says ground floor, and one writer calls it a free-standing building you can see from the road — nobody says whether anything is above it, or whether you step up to get in. One describes a screen dividing the window seats from those by the door; nobody says whether the two are on the same level.
No post says whether a wheelchair or a pushchair can get in. In twenty-eight posts the words for ramp, sill and step never appear once. Two writers who came with children mention the high chairs but never a pushchair. Eight call the room roomy and two say the tables stand well apart, so moving about inside looks easy — but nobody looked at the doorway.
One post mentions the toilet, in a single line: there is one inside. Whether men's and women's are separate, what it is like, whether there is a step — nobody says. This in a place open from half past nine in the morning until nine at night, with a steady traffic of people coming down from the baths.
No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know
- Twenty-eight posts, not twenty-nine. The one we set aside is a sales post from KT's official blog listing some two hundred Changwon restaurants and their addresses in a table; our shop appears as a single row, with no account of going and nothing eaten. No post declares a sponsorship or a free meal. One tie is worth stating, because the writer states it herself: a friend of hers used to work here, and she says that is not why she is praising it. Her report that the radish kimchi and the rice punch are both made on the premises may come from knowing the kitchen, so we leave it as her account and not as a fact of the place.
- How much more takeaway costs depends on which post you read. Four say two thousand won on top, with twice the broth; one says a thousand a dish. And the one writer who actually took it home adds that the broth did not feel like twice as much. We could not settle it. Three writers watched other people carrying it out; one took a single portion home, and one buys it now and then to eat with a drink in the evening.
- How hot the red bowl is depends on who you ask. Four writers put it above instant ramyeon; three call it hot but easy to finish; one who had been avoiding it on warnings found no heat in it at all. A regular wrote in May 2025 that it had been getting milder, yet posts through 2026 still call it hot. Whether the bowls differ or the recipe changed, we cannot tell. If heat is not for you, the plain bowl, the deeper one and the knuckle soup are the same broth without it.
- Almost nobody writes about getting here without a car. Across twenty-eight posts, not one came by bus or taxi. The nearest thing is a single line: Bukmyeon is hard to move around without a car, so a restaurant with parking is a relief. The rest drove, or walked down from the hot-spring baths — five of them came straight from a bath. No post says where the stop is or how long the walk takes.
