Myeongin Kalguksu & Mandu Yangpyeong
명인칼국수&만두 양평점 A small kalguksu-and-dumpling shop off Yangpyeong market, cheap, huge bowls, and fresh kimchi you help yourself to
Data as of · Published ·
Myeongin Kalguksu & Mandu is a noodle-and-dumpling shop at the mouth of an alley off Yangpyeong market, between the county office and the station. The licence spells the name with a comma; the sign and everyone writing about it use an ampersand. It is the Yangpyeong branch of an old dumpling chain and it opened in May 2025 — the earliest post we have greets its arrival, and the unit was a bar before that. Kalguksu and sujebi come in five broths — anchovy, beef bone, chilli paste, hot, perilla — and around them sits a long menu of dumplings, tteokbokki, cold noodles, cutlets and rice bowls. There are about five tables and a great deal of delivery. Half past ten in the morning until nine at night, closed Mondays. Everything we read runs from May 2025 to July 2026: the whole fourteen months of its life.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.

What sets it apart
- The side dishes are self-service, and the fresh kimchi is half of what people write about this place. Twenty-four of twenty-eight mention the counter and fourteen stop specifically at the kimchi, counting their refills — three helpings, three again, and one who draws the line at three out of conscience. Two were told it is made daily, one that the owner's mother makes it, and two checked the origin label. Alongside it sit pickled radish, plates, scissors, tongs, wipes and disposable aprons — and, one writer notes, the plastic gloves you are meant to use to toss the bibim dumplings by hand. One more thing: order a dish each and the rice is free, as fifteen writers point out.
- Seventeen writers describe the size of the bowls — bigger than two hands together, a basin, a washbasin, one and a half portions for seven and a half thousand won. Four ordered three dishes between two and say it was too much, one of them reckoning they nearly burst. Most dishes are under ten thousand won, and one writer notes the dearest single item on the board is eleven.
- It is a small room — about five tables. Twelve writers call it compact or modest in size, and one counts it exactly: two tables for four, four for two. Four others found it roomier than expected, or liked the gaps between tables; not one complains of being cramped. Two note instead that the turnover is quick enough that a full room at lunch does not cost you much. Ten mention the chairs just inside the door, set out for waiting.
- Half of this kitchen's work goes out the door. Nine writers mention delivery or takeaway, and six of them describe the same scene — the order alarm going off through their meal, riders coming and going until they left, the room never filling because most of the food is leaving. One came to eat in only after ordering delivery first and liking it. Another notes a table by the entrance set aside for riders to collect from.
- One person runs the room and the delivery orders — three writers say so. It shows in how long the food takes: four say it came quickly, two warn that it will not. One of the two explains it: at lunch the delivery orders pile up and the kitchen is a single pair of hands. These are not contradictions so much as different hours. Avoid the lunch rush and it seems to come fast.

Parking
16 posts say you cannot park. None say you can.

There is no car park of its own. Sixteen writers say so outright. Where they actually left the car differs: the county office lot (free after six on weekdays and at weekends, say two), the riverside market lot (first hour free, then two hundred won per ten minutes, free after five, says one), the lot in front of the market's main gate (free after six, two minutes' walk, says one), and the bank's lot — where one writer puts weekday parking at five thousand won per half hour and another at three thousand, both agreeing on a thousand at weekends. We do not know which weekday figure is right. The walk is put at two to five minutes. One writer guessed you might park out front; they did not try, so we have not counted it.

Getting there

Getting inside
| Toilet inside | 3 of 28 posts |

No writer says what floor it is on. Nobody describes going up or down any stairs, and the way they write about the entrance — through the door, a sliding door on the right, chairs just inside — reads like walking straight in from the alley. But that is inference, not something we counted.
Not one of the twenty-eight posts mentions a step, a ramp, a threshold or the width of the aisles. The words for wheelchair and pushchair never appear — and six of these writers brought children. One of the six brought their own baby seat expecting none, then found a spot against the wall and never unpacked it; that single line does not tell us whether the shop has high chairs or not. That it is a small room of about five tables down an alley is the whole of what we know.
Three writers note that the lavatory is inside the shop — two of them listing it beside delivery and takeaway as a fact worth knowing, the third simply glad of it. In a small unit down a market alley the usual arrangement is a shared one outside, which is presumably why they bothered to say. That is all we have: whether it is split by sex, how many cubicles, how clean — nobody says.
No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know
- Eight writers give the walk from Yangpyeong station and none of them agree exactly. One measures it at 364 metres, one at about six minutes, one at seven; the rest just say it is close. They do not even agree on the exit — some say 1, one says 2. Three put it three to five minutes from the county office. The landmarks vary from post to post: the alley beside the cinema, the one past a particular restaurant, the one opposite a mala shop. Two warn the alley is easy to miss. Nobody writes about coming by bus.
- Not one writer says they queued. Ten mention the chairs inside the door and explain what they are for, but seeing the chairs is not the same as sitting in them. Three pass on hearsay — that there is a wait at lunch, that weekends get busy. Against that, one arrived at half past twelve on a weekday to an open table, and one says the turnover is quick enough that a full room costs nothing. Two describe finding people already eating: one at opening time, one at one in the afternoon. Nobody put a number on any wait.
- We do not know whether this place shuts in the afternoon. Three writers say three different things: a break from half past two to five; a break from half past two to four, weekdays only; and no break at all, straight through from lunch to dinner. One post each, so none of them went into the timetable. The opening time splits too — nineteen say half past ten, three say eleven, one says ten, and the three answers do not sort by date, so we cannot even call it a change. If you are aiming for mid-afternoon, ring first (031-772-9592). On Mondays there is no disagreement: twenty posts say closed. No writer records a last-order time.
- Three posts declare a sponsorship — but in all three the tag sits not in the text but in the hashtags of a clip the writer links to from their own post, where reading the body alone would miss it. Not one writer says they paid their own way, and the other twenty-five say nothing about money at all — and silence is not the same as having paid. Note also that twenty-eight posts are not twenty-eight people: one blogger wrote two of them, one just after the place opened and one ten months later. Thirteen posts record a price.
- This branch is new, so we have only fourteen months of writing about it. The oldest post, from 22 May 2025, greets its opening; another notes the unit used to be a bar. That is barely one turn of the seasons — the summer dishes, the cold soy-bean noodles and the cold buckwheat, have one post each. Bear in mind too that this is an old chain: four writers reach back to a different branch — school days in another town, a taste from fifteen years ago, the shop by the cram schools — and those memories belong to the name, not to this door.
