The Okjeong branch of Yeonmakchang, a Daegu makchang chain, in units 113–114 of Dream Tower I in Okjeong's central shopping district, Yangju. Pork makchang aged in lotus leaves arrives pre-grilled and you finish it on the table grill; the regular and the thick cut are both 14,000 won per 200g, and the first order must be at least three portions. Nearly every post mentions the self-serve bar, free slush, and the radish noodles handed out for writing a review. We read 30 posts dated 29 August to 11 October 2026 and counted the 28 that describe a visit; one post about a different restaurant and one information-only post were left out.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.
What sets it apart
- The makchang comes out already par-grilled over charcoal, so it needs only a short finish on the table grill; 20 of the 28 visit posts said so. Several were told to cook it until it turns caramel-coloured, and in three posts the owner grilled it for them — for first-timers or early in the evening — though one notes that normally you grill it yourself.
- The first makchang order must be at least three portions — nine posts noted this. The most common order for two was two portions of regular plus one of the thick cut, and one couple wrote that it wasn't so much food that they couldn't finish it. Copied menu text says additional orders start at two portions.
- Fifteen posts said you can top up side dishes from the self-serve bar, which holds greens, white kimchi, green-onion kimchi, bracken, mushrooms and rice cakes to grill alongside the meat; several recommend grilling the kimchi.
- There is outdoor seating: 13 posts mentioned outdoor tables or a terrace, and several said the front is opened up in good weather. One counted two outdoor tables.
4 more
- Seventeen posts said the makchang had no off smell, including self-described smell-sensitive eaters, people from Daegu, and parents with children. The claim that lotus-leaf aging is the reason is the shop's own line, and we don't count it.
- Four posts went with children. Two sat them in a high chair, and two were given a splash guard beside the table to keep grill fat off the child. Kids reportedly liked the pork belly, the jjajangmyeon and the slush.
- Seven posts saw many celebrity autographs on the walls. The line about TV personalities Lee Young-ja and Pak Se-ri refers to the chain as a whole and comes from the shop.
- It is a franchise: three posts said so, and one writer from Daegu said the taste is consistent across branches.

Where it is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Getting inside
| In a basement | yes 0 · no 1 (of 28 posts read) |
|---|
Only one post described the floor from experience, saying it was easy to find on the ground floor; the rest only repeat the address.
We don't know whether there is a step at the entrance or whether a wheelchair or stroller gets in. Four posts went with children, but none described the entrance — that means no one wrote about it, not that it's a problem.
We don't know whether the toilet is inside the restaurant. Separate men's and women's toilets appear only in copied listing info; no post described using them.
No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 29 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- One post came by bus, getting off at the stop for the central shopping district because they planned to drink. No one gave the nearest station or a walking time.
- No post actually waited. One that arrived around 4:30 during the Chuseok holiday found it fairly quiet before it filled up; two others said a queue forms if you come late at peak time, or that they nearly had to wait. One found only a few tables left just after 4 p.m., another saw the room fill on a weekday evening. We don't know how long a wait runs.
- Twenty posts give the same opening hours, 4 p.m. to 1 a.m., but almost all copied them from the listing. One post walked in right at 4 p.m.; another was told the place was closing early that Monday. Only one copied note says there is no closing day.
- No post totalled a meal. At 14,000 won per 200g, the three-portion first order for two comes to 42,000 won for the makchang alone; six posts said the price felt reasonable. Some drink prices were described as an opening discount, so we can't say whether they still apply.
- Most posts list the phone number as 0507-1466-7999; one gives 031-858-7999. Many copied that Naver booking is available, but no post actually booked.
- The menu changed: posts up to early September list two makchang (five mains in all), and from 28 September a new beef makchang appears at 18,000 won per 180g.
- Posts from 2 to 11 October follow the same order and the same sequence — self-serve bar, review-event noodles, slush. Of these, one says it was a reviewer-programme visit and one says it was sponsored; only one post, from 31 August, says the writer paid. The rest don't say.
