원미담 Wonmidam Yangju barbecue house that grills every cut in the kitchen — no grill at your table
Korean · Yangju-si, Okjeong-dong
Data as of · Published ·
Wonmidam is a meat restaurant on the ground floor of a shop-house in the R1 block on the northern edge of Okjeong new town in Yangju, across from the knowledge-industry centre. There is no grill, no burner and no extractor hood at the table. The meat is cooked through in the kitchen and comes out on a single platter with its garnishes and fried kimchi, kept warm by a tealight underneath. They sell Korean pork by the cut alongside beef short rib, plus three set menus named One, Mi and Dam. Closed Sundays and the second Monday of each month, with an afternoon break. The posts we read run from March 2025 to September 2026.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.
What sets it apart
- This is what everyone came for. No one at the table has to do the cooking, and the smell does not get into your clothes or hair. "At a barbecue place the person with the tongs never gets to eat"; "parents spend the whole meal turning and cutting and never actually eat" — writers say plainly that this is why they chose it for a work dinner or a meal with children. Several note they can come at lunch without worrying about what comes after. No grill also means no open flame at the table for a child to touch. To the obvious worry that pre-cooked meat goes cold, four writers report seeing the tealight burning under the platter.
- There is a wash basin inside the dining room. At a place where you wrap the meat in leaves by hand, this comes up again and again — "you don't have to walk back and forth to the toilet" recurs almost word for word. One writer washed her eighteen-month-old's hands and face there before leaving.
- Families with children make up a large share of what we read. Several writers found a stack of high chairs; one was brought children's cutlery without asking. Two mention that the children are handed a jelly sweet at the end of the meal. No one, however, wrote anything about a nappy-changing table.
- Writers disagree about how roomy it is. Several found the tables well spaced; one says the room is not large and that the sofa seats are almost touching the next party; another calls it not exactly spacious but well laid out. Everyone agrees there is a separated area at the back, but one writer calls it a private room and another says flatly that it is not private.
- Evenings and weekends fill up first. One writer waited twenty minutes to get in; another waited briefly and was shown to a table at the back. Even those who did not wait noticed the room filling: one found the floor already full at six on a weekday evening, another walked in without a booking on a Thursday and watched the last tables go. There is a waitlist terminal, and they take bookings by phone. One writer notes that the meat takes fifteen to twenty minutes to arrive, precisely because it is cooked through in the kitchen.

Parking
11 posts say you can park; 1 say you cannot. We leave the disagreement standing rather than picking a side.

Parking comes down to the four spaces in front. One writer counted about four; one found a single space left at weekday lunch; one arrived at one in the afternoon, found nothing, and left the car in the lane. The usual fallback is the roadside, but two writers warn that the junction and the crossing are enforced, and one says never to park in front of the neighbouring building. Another says there is plenty of open ground behind.

Naver Map has a full English mode — Settings → Language → English. In Korea it gives better walking and transit directions than Google Maps.
Getting inside

Nobody wrote about a step at the door, a ramp, or wheelchair access either. It is on the ground floor and one writer stepped straight out of the car into the door, but no one recorded whether there is a threshold or whether a pushchair gets through. That is not the same as saying there isn't one — it means nobody looked.
No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 30 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- Why twenty-nine and not thirty. One post was a round-up naming Wonmidam alongside more than ten other Yangju meat restaurants. Its Wonmidam paragraph records no dish, no price and nothing about the room, and every parking note in it belongs to a different restaurant. We left it out of the count.
- Not one writer described the toilet. Nine mention the wash basin in the dining room, and several of them phrase it as not having to go out to the toilet. Whether the toilet is inside the restaurant or out in the building, whether it is separated by sex, whether there is a step — nobody wrote it down. We do not know what the toilet is like.
- No one got there by public transport. Two walked, saying it is about ten minutes from home; one took a taxi; several drove with the navigation on. Nobody wrote down a bus or subway route.
- Some posts declare that they were sponsored or comped, and some do not. Four disclose it — one with a single closing hashtag, one with a line saying a product was provided, one saying a meal voucher was given but some of it was paid for. Two more read as discounted or expensed. Separately, one post is written by someone who introduces himself as a marketer and says nothing about sponsorship. And two posts on different blogs share whole paragraphs word for word — the wood-toned interior, the parking, the tablet ordering, the soybean stew. Their dishes and photographs differ, so we kept both in the count, but we counted nothing from the shared paragraphs.
- One writer says outright that parts of the post come from other people's posts — the prices "per publicly available information", the parking "some published reviews mention parking in front", the crowds "judging by the posts ranking highest". The eating reads as first-hand so we kept it in the count, but we counted nothing of its prices or parking.
- Prices disagree, and so does the opening time. One post from March 2026 puts the marinated short rib, dry-aged belly and jowl at 19,000, 14,000 and 16,000 won; posts on either side of it put the same three at 22,000, 16,000 and 18,000. The soybean stew and the cold noodles split between 7,000 and 6,000. Posts written up to February 2026 say it opens at 11:00; from March 2026 they say 11:30. We cannot tell which is current — or whether these are disagreements or changes.
- The restaurant's own signage repeats from post to post. "Grade 1+ Korean pork, dry-aged 48 to 72 hours", "held above 70°C by Wonmidam's own method", "our own garnishes and house-developed sauces" — these three lines are on the wall and the menu, and more than ten posts copy them almost verbatim. We did not verify any of them. Where writers say the meat was tender or free of off-smell we counted that, because they ate it; the ageing hours and the temperature are the restaurant's claim, not ours.
