Hyojadong Sotttukkeong

효자동솥뚜껑 Hyojadong is the name of a Seoul neighbourhood (literally 'filial-son village'), and sotttukkeong is a cast-iron cauldron lid — the pork here is grilled on one.

Compiled from 4 blog posts read in fullSources →

A cauldron-lid pork-belly place on the second floor of a shopping arcade at Okjeong-ro 6-gil 8 in Yangju's Okjeong district — part of a chain that also has branches in Myeongdong and Junggye, Seoul. A 600g order of Duroc black-pork belly and/or neck comes with steamed egg and doenjang stew, and you grill it yourself on the lid alongside kimchi, bean sprouts and water dropwort. Four visit posts all gave 35,900 won for the 600g. Two posts warned about heavy oil splatter and told readers to wear the apron. We read 13 posts from March 2025 to August 2026: 5 are actual visits, 2 were about other branches and set aside, and 6 were list posts that only named the place.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. You do the grilling. Three visit posts said staff don't cook the meat for you; one noted the owner puts it all on the lid at once and the last pieces ended up overcooked.
  2. Two posts said the pork is thick-cut, enough that it takes a while to cook through; one of them added it had no gamey smell.
  3. Two posts said you order on a tablet or kiosk; one found pork belly with skin on the in-store kiosk that wasn't on the Naver menu.
  4. Two posts found the portions generous; one was disappointed that a meat order came with just a single piece of mushroom for two people.

Getting inside

Second floor2 of 4 posts
Lift to the floor1 of 4 posts

The restaurant is on the arcade's second floor. Two posts described going up, one by elevator. Two posts called the room spacious, with four-person and group tables.

No post mentioned any basement seating; two posts placed the restaurant on the second floor.

We don't know whether the entrance has a step or works for a wheelchair or stroller. One post took an elevator up; no post described the entrance itself.

We don't know whether the restroom is inside the restaurant. Two posts carry copied info blocks that disagree slightly (in-store vs. in the arcade); nobody described actually using it.

No one mentioned: In a basement · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 10 posts we gathered, 6 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Service reports split. One post praised the owner coming over to swap the egg pot for stew; another said on a busy weekend evening no one answered the call bell and they fetched their own drinks.
  • No post described getting there by subway or bus; one only said it was on their way home from the supermarket. That means nobody wrote about it, not that it's unreachable.
  • No visitor reported waiting for a table. A list post claims there's often a queue, but that's copied text and we don't count it.
  • No clear pattern in who people go with: one post was a six-friend birthday dinner, one a parent with children, one a party of two.
  • Four visit posts agree on opening hours: 15:00-23:00, last order 22:00, closed Mondays — though two of these are copied info blocks and one is hashtags. One list post gave 16:00-24:00; we didn't follow it.
  • Prices are reported item by item (35,900 won for 600g, 4,000 for water dropwort, 6,000 for kimchi noodles); no post gave a total per meal. A July 2025 list post said 32,000 won for 600g, but it wasn't a visit. Two posts called the prices fair.
  • Several posts list the phone number 0507-1336-0940, but none said they reserved; 'reservations and groups OK' appears only in copied info blocks.
