John & Matt Taco

존앤맷 타코 미사본점 Jon-aen-maet Tako A ten-year-old mexican restaurant by Misa station where wok-fired fajita arrives with eight house sauces

Data as of · Published ·

John & Matt Taco is a mexican restaurant four or five minutes' walk from exit 5 at Misa station, on the ground floor of block 201 in the Hoban Summit arcade. It moved here in the summer of 2025 from Paragon Square across the road, where you had to walk around the outside of the building to a back terrace; from the arcade car park here, a lift brings you straight up. The centre of the menu is fajita — chicken, pork, prawns and fried rice fired in a wok to order and brought out on an iron plate for you to wrap yourself — and, more than anything else the writers talk about, the eight house sauces that come with it. Open every day from half eleven to ten, with an hour's break in the afternoon. There is one other branch, in Wirye. The posts we read run from November 2024 to September 2026.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

These hours are counted from the posts we read. Shops change them without notice — check Naver Place before you go. Place — check hours

What sets it apart

  1. The eight sauces are close to the whole story here: guacamole, tomato salsa, sour cream, chipotle sweet chilli, nacho cheese, garlic butter, pico de gallo and chipotle ranch, all at once. The lighter fajita set brings seven, and in 2024 seven was the whole line-up. One free refill on everything but the guacamole, then 1,000 won a pot — or 3,000 for two or three times the guacamole. Favourites vary; garlic butter wins the most votes. But the line that most writers reach for — other mexican places give you three or four, this one gives eight — is word for word the restaurant's own, so we cannot tell who counted and who copied.
  2. The side dish people end up liking best is the taco salad: a tortilla deep-fried into a bowl, filled with leaves and grapefruit and pineapple, and then broken up by hand at the end and eaten too. Two writers used the shards in place of tortillas for their fajita; one was handed gloves to crack it. It comes only with the platter sets, not with the lighter fajita set — so you have to order a platter to meet it.
  3. The restaurant moved one road over, and the older posts describe a different building. Everything up to May 2025 is Paragon Square: no way in from inside the arcade, so you came out to the ground floor and walked round to a terrace at the back — one writer circled the whole block before finding it. From October 2025 the posts are at Hoban Summit, across the road. Two people who knew both say the new room is bigger and cleaner. We counted only the food from the five old-address posts, not the seating, the parking or the toilets.
  4. There are tables outside, and that is the only part of the restaurant a dog may sit in — one writer checked, and says the indoor room is off limits. Two say the terrace fills first in good weather; one expected a scramble for it. Two regretted driving, because the terrace and a draught beer go together.
  5. You can get here without a car. Several posts put it at 298 metres from exit 5 at Misa station, four or five minutes on foot, and one describes following the planted walkway between the Paragon and Hoban Summit blocks until the orange sign appears. Drivers park in the Hoban Summit arcade — two hours free, registered with the staff. Two posts give the same directions: gate 1 by pillar 73, then the lift. One says the numbers in the tens on basement level one are closest.
  6. Families with small children write the most concrete notes here. One brought a seven-year-old and reports that the mild dishes really are mild — the child finished everything — and that the taco filling is chopped fine enough for a child to manage. One pushed a pram in and found it no trouble. Four writers describe seeing the high chairs themselves; more posts mention them, but several of those are reciting the restaurant's own copy, so we did not count them.
  7. Nearly everyone says there is too much food. Two parties downgraded from the couple set to the lighter fajita set because they doubted two people could finish it; three friends who took the friend set thought it was really built for four. The one thing that runs out is tortillas: six writers paid the extra 1,000 won for more, one of them twice. Three per person come with a set.
  8. A lot of these writers came back. Nine call it a place they return to, a favourite, a regular haunt. Three had eaten at the old Paragon address years before and came to find the new one; two had been ordering delivery for years and were sitting down here for the first time. The restaurant advertises itself as ten years in Misa, and the posts track that claim moving: eight years in November 2024, nine in October 2025, ten through 2026.

One sentence from one person is all we have: someone pushed a pram in and found it no trouble. Nobody looked at the threshold or the width of the door. Two posts describe coming up by lift from the basement car park to the ground floor, so the building itself sounds manageable — but what happens at the restaurant's own door, nobody says.

Nobody has looked at the toilet in the current premises. Three posts mention one and none of the three can be used: two are about the old Paragon address — one lists door codes for the building's toilets, the other only says there is a sign on the table — and the third says men's and women's are separate, but that line is copied straight out of the Naver facilities list along with 'group bookings, takeaway, delivery, wifi'. Being a unit inside an arcade, it may well share the building's toilets. We do not know.

No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know

  • Not one of the twenty-eight writers waited for a table, and none mentions a list or a waiting area. The closest anyone comes is noting that the room was busy on a weekday evening, that people kept arriving, that there were a lot of groups of three and four. One post describes walking straight in at weekend lunchtime — but that was the old building. Whether this one ever has a queue, we cannot say.
  • Two things to know before reading these posts. First, four of the twenty-eight declare a sponsorship or a tasting invitation — a line at the foot of the post, or a hashtag. Second, nine more declare nothing but reproduce the restaurant's marketing copy word for word: the same claims about ten years in Misa, the only mexican place in the neighbourhood, the sister branch in Wirye, the comfortable fitted seating, group bookings for clinics and nurseries, all in the same order. We did not count the high chairs, the air conditioning or the group seating that appear inside those paragraphs. Separately, and open to anyone, a canned drink is given for writing a Naver review — the posts have mentioned it since December 2024.
  • Prices have risen, and the current ones do not quite agree. The couple set was 39,800 won with seven sauces in late 2024 and 42,800 with eight from May 2025; one 2026 post gives it as 44,800 with an actual selling price of 42,800, so there seem to be a list price and a standing discount. The friend set is 53,800 in every post but one, which says 55,800; the two-person fajita set is 36,000 in three and 34,000 in a fourth. We cannot tell which is current — the disagreeing posts fall within a month of each other.
  • The closing day does not agree. Twelve posts say closed every Tuesday; three say open all year. The three fall in June, July and August 2026, with Tuesday-closed posts on either side, in April and September — so they look like copied stale information, but we have left them as written rather than deciding. If you are going on a Tuesday, ring first. The weekend break seems to have changed too: four posts from the old address say there was none at weekends, while the posts from the new one give a break from half three to four.
