삼스타숯불구이 A charcoal grill house in Jeongwang-dong, Siheung, known for a single pork rib long enough to cover the grill
Other · Siheung-si, Jeongwang-dong
Data as of · Published ·
Samstar is a charcoal grill house on the ground floor of a commercial block in Jeongwang-dong, Siheung — the building people still call by the old hospital's name. Real charcoal, and you cook it yourself. The signature is a single pork rib long enough to cover the grill; Korean pork belly and beef short-rib meat share the board. It opens at five in the evening, closes at eleven, and shuts on Sundays — there is no lunch service. Everything we read was written in August and September 2026.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.
What sets it apart
- Order meat and a crab-and-soybean-paste stew arrives with it, free. A whole blue crab goes in, which is what writers keep coming back to; one says it comes in a basin rather than a small pot. Several expected nothing of a freebie and say so. Four ordered rice because of it. Two were told by staff to set the pot back on the charcoal when it cools. A second pot, one post says, costs ₩3,000.
- Two things bring the bill down. From five to six, the hour the doors open, the big rib drops from ₩16,000 to ₩13,000. And soju and beer are half price at ₩2,500 — self-serve from a fridge that also holds the chilled glasses. Three writers timed their arrival for that hour; two missed it by minutes. Both are described as running promotions, not standing prices.
- One rib fills the grill. Put two on and there is no room left, says one writer; another says a single slab hides the whole plate. Two give the portion as 400g. Because of the size you cut as you cook, and because it is marinated the plate needs changing often — which is why the tablet at each table matters more here than usual. The length in the name wanders between 25, 26 and 29 centimetres depending on who is writing.
- The side dishes live in a refrigerated case you help yourself from. Two writers prefer it to an open self-bar — it looks like a bakery display — and one notices the plates are deliberately small, so nothing sits out long. The six dipping sauces take up half of what people write about this place: ssamjang, fresh wasabi, two kinds of salted seafood, and, unusually, breadcrumbs and tonkatsu sauce. Dip the grilled meat, roll it in the crumbs, and it tastes like a cutlet; three parents say it is what their children ate all evening.
- A notice in the room says every ingredient is Korean — not just the meat but the cabbage and chilli in the kimchi, and several writers copy the line down. What they actually talk about most, though, is not the meat: it is the cold-aged mugeunji. More than ten say to grill it with the pork belly. One rates it against a famous kimchi house; another, who says she only ever likes fresh kimchi, made an exception.

Parking
10 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

Parking is the Siwha lot behind the building. Take a ticket on the way in, hand it over when you pay, and the shop stamps two hours free — do not leave the ticket in the car. Several writers walk through exactly that sequence. It is an open surface lot, wide enough that one writer, who does not enjoy tight garages, says it is no trouble. They also agree that finding a space in this block in the evening is otherwise a nuisance.

Getting there

Naver Map has a full English mode — Settings → Language → English. In Korea it gives better walking and transit directions than Google Maps.
Getting inside
| Second floor | yes 0 · no 2 |

Whether there is a step at the door, nobody says. Not a word in twenty-seven posts about ramps, thresholds, or getting a wheelchair or pushchair inside. All we know is that it is on the ground floor — two writers place it on the first floor of the old Siwha hospital building, and the rest describe walking in off the main road. Ground floor does not mean step-free, and we cannot tell you which it is. If you are coming with wheels, call ahead.
No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 30 posts we gathered, 3 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- We counted twenty-seven of the thirty posts. Three are out. Two are the same blog posting the same headline four days apart — a list of "what are the opening hours?" questions with no record of anyone eating, and the answers are wrong: it claims eleven to ten daily with no closing day, when the place opens only in the evening and shuts on Sundays, and it prices cuts that are not on the menu. The third disclosed that the shop paid for it, repeats an entire paragraph word for word, and contradicts the other twenty-six in four places — staff grilling the meat for you, a modest sign down a side alley. None of them reads as written by someone who went.
- There is only one season's worth of writing about this place. All thirty qualifying posts were written between 2 August and 24 September 2026 — the shape of a new opening with a paid campaign behind it, and two writers do call it newly opened. Only one post declares it was sponsored, and none insists it paid its own way. We kept every post that records someone eating, and they read as separate people: one mixed a soju bomb with alcohol-free beer by mistake, one burnt the first pieces on too fierce a fire, one missed the discount hour by minutes. But we have seen one season and no more. How the prices move across a year, and what the room is like in winter, we cannot tell you.
- Nobody looked at the toilets. Whether they are inside or out, whether men's and women's are separate, whether there is an accessible one — none of the twenty-seven says. One post lists separate toilets, wi-fi and takeaway in a row, but that is the Naver listing copied across, so we left it out. That writer did not go and look. Wi-fi and takeaway are blank for the same reason, and the Siheung local-currency card is mentioned once in an information block and never actually used by anyone writing.
- Nobody waited. One writer noticed a sign-up sheet at the counter and two say the tables were full at the evening peak, but no one describes queuing — the line about it being busy enough to need a list is an inference from the sheet. So we cannot tell you whether you will wait. Booking does work: one writer says a group can call ahead and have tables joined up at one end of the room.
- Nobody arrived by public transport. One writer notes that Jeongwang and Oido stations are nearby and calls the access good, but not one describes taking a train or a bus — no walking times from a station, no bus number. Parking stamps, on the other hand, come up again and again. One writer walked over from a hotel nearby; another stopped in on the way back from the Siheung outlet mall. If you are coming without a car, check the walk from the station yourself.
- One writer actually brought a dog, and she is the one who wrote down the conditions: a small dog that does not bark, in a pet stroller or a carrier. The "pets welcome" lines in the other posts are copied from the listing, so we left them out. Worth a phone call before you set off. Corkage appears once too: ₩10,000 a bottle, no limit on the number, for anything the shop does not sell itself.
