Kayamaguro is an aged-tuna house on the second floor of a building a block off the eating quarter behind Suwon city hall. In a neighbourhood full of all-you-can-eat tuna, it chose to serve one plate sized to your party instead, laid out by cut from the lean akami through to the fattest belly, with minced tuna and a little of the innards alongside. There is a counter and there are tables, but most of the room is private rooms, each with its own heating and air conditioning. Five in the evening until one in the morning, closed Sundays. Several writers say it is the second house of a tuna restaurant on the next street over. The posts we read run from January 2025 to September 2026.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart
- Nearly the whole place is private rooms. Twenty-four writers mention them, and four say outright that the room is almost entirely rooms — for two people up to fifteen, laid out, one says, in an L. What is not a room is the counter, where you watch the fish being cut, and a few tables by the window; one writer who sat at the counter got a running commentary from the chef and several things he had not ordered. The rooms have heated floors and heated seats — four writers say so, one of them with real gratitude on a cold night. The seating is low, but the table has a well underneath, so your legs go down rather than under you.
- The rooms go first. Sixteen writers booked, and five of them write about failing to: a weekend peak with no room left (the counter and tables were still free), a booking page that looked broken and turned out to be simply full, rooms already taken on arrival, a window room lost to someone quicker, and one party who took the last outside table and watched the rest go within minutes. It is not always like that — two who turned up at five, as the doors opened, found the place quiet, and a regular says it has never once been full when she came. One writer rang ahead to say she would be early and was told that was fine.
- Something grilled arrives that you did not order. Twelve writers got one, most often the tuna collar — which, as one of them points out, is a ₩24,000 dish on the menu. What comes varies: sea bass one night, a whole tilefish another, a braised fish handed over with "it's been a while," once a plate of seared tuna nigiri. One regular says the guessing is part of the evening. One writer got hers as an apology for a slow kitchen; another had to turn down an offer of more fish. One person, though, found the opposite — she says the extras here are thinner than other izakayas manage.
- By the standards of this neighbourhood it is quiet. Eleven writers say so, and several make the comparison explicitly: the streets around here are loud, and a place where you can actually talk is hard to find. Two suggest it for a first date or for meeting the in-laws. One found it too quiet — in a room, she notes, a whisper carries. Two mention the lighting, and disagree about it: one says the low light flatters everyone, the other that a single lamp left her room very dark.
- Ten writers call it fair value and four call it dear. Those who call it fair do the arithmetic for you: the two-person plate works out around ₩40,000 a head, and they think the fish is worth it. Those who call it dear are talking about the things around the fish, not the fish — one wanted a piece of grilled fish to go with it, found it priced at ₩40,000, and went without; another sums it up as good tuna, no lavish spread, not cheap. The portions are not small — seven say there was more than they expected, and one confesses to giving up halfway, defeated by the fat.

Parking
3 posts say you can park; 10 say you cannot. We leave the disagreement standing rather than picking a side.

The posts disagree about parking, most likely because the space is tiny. Eight say there is none. Three say the opposite — that there is a small lot at the foot of the building, cramped, and you would be better off in a public car park anyway. The one writer who actually drove ended up in a paid car park nearby, calling the shop's own space very small indeed. The name that recurs is the city hall's second car park, three minutes' walk according to two posts. Two say plainly: do not bring the car.

Getting there

Getting inside

It is on the second floor, and there is a lift. Twelve writers give the floor and five mention the lift. One, who took the stairs herself, goes out of her way to say that anyone with a bad leg or their hands full should know the lift is there and works. Another describes it as an open lift on the outside of the building; a third says the shop is right there as the doors open. One places the lift inside the building, and one gives the ground-floor neighbour as the landmark for the entrance.
Nobody has come here in a wheelchair and written about it. In twenty-seven posts the words wheelchair, pushchair, step, threshold and ramp do not appear once. Five mention the lift, and one of them raises it precisely for people who cannot manage stairs — but what lies between the lift and the door, or the door and the table, nobody says. Worth knowing: most of the seating is in rooms and you sit low, on the floor. Three describe them as tatami rooms; one adds that there is a well under the table, so your legs go down. One writer came on crutches, and does not say how he got to his seat.
Two people looked at the toilets and wrote about them. One calls them department-store grade — inside the restaurant, separate for men and women, and spotless. The other simply confirms that they are separate and clean. A third post also says they are separate, but that line sits in a run of copied listing text — booking available, groups welcome, separate toilets, corkage available — so we have not counted it. For the same reason we have left out the claim that dogs are allowed: that was reported, not seen.
No one mentioned: In a basement · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 28 posts we gathered, 2 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- The corkage figure changes from post to post. Seven record it: five say ₩20,000 and two say ₩30,000. The ₩20,000 reports are spread across December 2025, April, May and September 2026; the two at ₩30,000 both fall on the 30th and 31st of December 2025. A festive-season rate, a difference by drink, or a change since — the posts give us no way to tell. One writer states that it is a flat ₩20,000 a bottle regardless of what or how much; another paid that for whisky; both of the ₩30,000 bottles were wine. One found no corkage line in the table-ordering system and had to ask at the counter. Bring sake and they will ask whether you want it chilled, then produce a bucket and the proper glasses.
- The price has moved twice in two years. The two-person plate was ₩74,000 in 2025 — one writer sets the two figures side by side, noting the rise — and then ₩79,000 in eight posts running from November 2025 to August 2026. Then a September 2026 post records ₩87,000. Two other posts from the same month give no price, so whether it rose again, or that writer was counting something else, we cannot tell. The three-person plate is ₩115,000 in both January and August 2026. Worth checking before you go.
- There is now an all-you-can-eat option, and nobody has tried it. Five writers copied it off the board: ₩77,000 a head, with the starters, grilled sea bass, prawn tempura and the hot pot as a course. Not one of the twenty-seven ordered it, and three say why — they would rather have a little of several good things, or they cannot eat that much fatty fish, or they knew they would not finish. It seems to have arrived around May 2026: a December 2025 post praises the shop for not being a refill place, and a June 2026 post says it was not there in February. What it is like, we do not know.
- Several writers call this the second house of a tuna restaurant on the next street — we have not confirmed it. Five say the two share an owner, and two of them treat that as the explanation for the quality of the fish. Two give the same advice on choosing between them: come here if you want tuna plus other things to eat, go there if you want to concentrate on the tuna with a spread of small dishes around it. One writer, disappointed by the side dishes, says she will go to the other next time. But nobody reports seeing the shop say this itself — one writer says she had heard it, another that she found out afterwards.
- Three of the thirty were taken out. One is a review of a different tuna restaurant, which names this one only in passing. One is a six-restaurant round-up with no meal in it. The third is the same writer describing the same visit twice — an anniversary write-up on 11 February 2026, and then a paragraph about that same evening in her monthly diary on 2 March, the thousand-day anniversary showing up in both. Count it twice and the sentence "twenty-seven people went" stops being true. Of the twenty-seven that remain, none declares a sponsorship, ten say outright that they paid, and two attach a receipt or booking record.
