Jokbal Sinseonsaeng Goyang Hwajeong-yeokjeom
족발신선생 고양화정역점 A branch of the Jokbal Shinseonsaeng chain, where the pork trotters are finished over a wood fire
Data as of · Published ·
Jokbal Shinseonsaeng Goyang Hwajeong is a pork-trotter house on the ground floor of a building directly opposite the Lotte Mart, 200 metres from exit 2 at Hwajeong station on Line 3. The sign reads 'roasted in a wood oven', and that is the claim: the trotters are not merely boiled but finished over fire. It is one branch of a nationwide chain — while reading we had to remove four posts that were about the Seolleung, Incheon Wanjeong, Bucheon and Sinwon-dong branches and shared only the name. A raw-fish house downstairs and a bakery upstairs share the same street address. It does not open for lunch: from four in the afternoon (writers disagree about weekends — some say three, some say Saturday is four as well) until one in the morning. A large screen inside brings football into several of these posts, and the front opens up in summer. The posts we read run from December 2024 to August 2026.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart
- Order one main and a spicy tofu stew and a plate of cold noodles arrive with it, free — and those two are the most written-about things in this shop. The stew comes on a gas ring to finish boiling at the table, with a raw egg to break into it: the thing to reach for when the pork wants cutting through, says one; good enough to sell on its own, says another; the reason a bottle of soju got ordered, says a third. The noodles are an either/or with a gorgonzola pizza, and four of the six who chose took the noodles. One writer notes the freebies come with eating in. The side dishes run to dressed garlic chives, dried radish, lettuce and perilla, garlic and green chilli, plus a vinegared onion salad or kimchi, with a chilli sauce and salted shrimp alongside.
- There is a big screen, and football keeps coming up. Four writers mention it; three of them had not yet watched anything on it and say they will come back for a match. One simply likes that you can see the whole room. The doors open at four in the afternoon and close at one in the morning, and two writers note that in summer the front is thrown open so it feels like drinking outdoors. This runs on drinking hours, not dining hours — not one of the fourteen came in daylight.
- These writers tend to name what the staff actually did. One had a server come over unprompted to offer the salted oysters; another was simply given them. One found the tough ends of the lettuce already trimmed off; one was warned in advance that people are divided about the garlic sauce; one had the cucumber left out of her noodles. Another writes that they ask whether you have been before, and take more care with you if you have. One writer, though, records the opposite — two women asking about the small size were told that two people should really take the medium, which she answers tartly: then call the small a single portion and have done.
- It is a branch of a national chain, and one writer only worked that out afterwards — worth knowing, she adds. It changes how this page should be read: most of what you will find online under this name is not about this shop. Even in our reading, posts from the Seolleung, Incheon Wanjeong, Bucheon and Sinwon-dong branches arrived under the same name, and one of those writers, eating at a different branch, declares the Hwajeong one the best she has had. Another reports that her boyfriend ordered from a different branch and thought little of it. That the branches differ is something the customers say first.

Parking
2 posts say you cannot park. None say you can.

Do not drive here. Two writers say there is nowhere to leave a car: park in front and you will be ticketed, says one; there is honestly nowhere, says the other, though people double-park across the road at night and move when called. Both used the Lotte Mart car park next door, and one makes a habit of doing the shopping afterwards. A line promising two free hours in that car park appears in several posts, but it is lifted from the Naver listing and nobody writes about actually using it. Bear in mind too that this is a place that serves until one in the morning — leaving the car behind is the sensible reading.

Getting there

Getting inside
It is on the ground floor — but that comes from our licence record and the address line people paste in, not from anyone's eyes. Across fourteen posts there is no mention of a stair, a lift or a ramp. One writer photographed it from the pavement (that's the place, just there); another says the front opens right up in summer, so it feels like drinking outside. It reads like a shop you walk straight into, but whether there is a step at the door, nobody says. A bakery upstairs in the same building is reached by an outdoor stair — that is the neighbour's business, and we have kept it out of this shop's count.
Nobody writes about getting in with a wheelchair or a pushchair. Across fourteen posts, the words for wheelchair, pushchair, ramp, step and threshold do not appear once. Two posts do copy Naver's facilities list, which includes a high chair — but those two record no meal and are outside our count, and a copied list is not something anyone saw. None of the fourteen brought a child. This is not a 'no'; it is we do not know. If it matters, telephone first.
Not one writer mentions the lavatories. The phrase 'separate men's and women's' does appear in two posts about this shop, but both times inside a copied run — takeaway, booking, delivery, wi-fi, separate lavatories, groups welcome, high chair, waiting area, contactless — lifted from the Naver listing, and neither of those posts records a meal, so both are outside our count. Whether the lavatories are inside the shop or shared with the building, and how many there are, nobody looked. In a place that pours until one in the morning you will want to know, and we cannot tell you.
No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 20 posts we gathered, 6 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- It is an easy walk from the station, but only two writers actually did it. One puts it at 200 metres from exit 2, under five minutes. The other rode Line 3 for an hour from the Express Bus Terminal and stood most of the way. The remaining twelve either say nothing about getting here or copy the Naver directions — and one of those copies even gets the exit number wrong (that same post also gives an address and a telephone number that are not this shop's). Not one writer arrives by bus.
- Only one writer mentions a queue at all: she walked in at night without booking, found two or three tables left, and by the time she was eating people were waiting. Two others found the room full but did not wait — one arrived early and it was already almost full, one found families and work parties filling it up. Against that, one writer was practically the first customer of the evening (a Monday, early). Nobody records how long a wait actually is. What is recorded is that the popular cuts sell out on a weekend evening, so if you want the whole roasted trotter, come early.
- Not one of these posts declares a sponsorship. We read the bodies and the hashtags. Six writers say they paid for themselves; one was treated by her partner. Two others record getting a free rice ball or a small trotter through a review promotion — both were delivery or takeaway orders and are outside our count. One thing is worth flagging: an August 2025 post is built out of tick-marks and emoji, and the address and telephone number in its info box are not this shop's. Its account of the meal is specific enough to count, but we used nothing from that box. And three of these posts are diaries running through many restaurants; in those we read only this shop's passage and counted only this shop's passage — no parking, no lavatories, no waiting from any of the three.
