Gangneung Eomjine Kkomakjip Dasan

강릉엄지네꼬막집 다산역점 A Gangneung cockle house by Dasan station: one wide platter, half rice, half cockles, for two or three

Data as of · Published ·

Umjine is a cockle house on the ground floor of a tower block — the one with the No Brand supermarket — five minutes' walk from exit 1 at Dasan station on Line 8. It is a branch of the Gangneung original and opened in 2024. The menu is cockles almost all the way down: the house dish is one wide platter, half dressed rice and half cockles in sauce, with a rice-free version beside it and a short list of drinking food — stuffed squid, pancakes, beef tartare. The water is hovenia tea, and the dried seaweed and perilla leaves are free and refilled. A lunch place by day, a drinking place at night. The posts we read run from November 2024 to September 2026.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.

These hours are counted from the posts we read. Shops change them without notice — check Naver Place before you go. Place — check hours

What sets it apart

  1. One platter is too much for two. The board calls the house dish a two-to-three, but eight writers ordering it for two came away stuffed or with a box. Three say it stretches to three; two thought it nearer four portions. There are more cockles than rice — the rice runs out first, and four writers add a bowl of plain rice to mix into what is left, one of them calling it the unwritten rule. Anyone going alone, or lightly, wants the single-portion lunch list instead, served until two.
  2. The chilli is not evenly spread. Twelve writers mention the heat, and they all reach for the same shape of phrase — it comes in patches, you hit one now and then. Two therefore advise mixing only what you are about to eat rather than turning the whole platter over, so you can steer. Children are the sharp edge of this: one mother writes that hers could not share the dish at all, while another was asked by the owner, unprompted, whether the chillies should be kept to one side.
  3. The water is hovenia tea. Twelve writers mention it, and every one of them lands on the same joke: this is a restaurant telling you to order a drink. It costs nothing. The hangover theme does not stop there — one says a milk-thistle sachet arrives with the first bottle of soju, another found them stuck to the fridge door. Five call it nutty and warming; one nearly filled up on it.
  4. The price list reads differently at lunch and at night. The ₩37,000 platter is one dish for two or three to share; between eleven and two there is a single-portion version. But twelve writers recommend that lunch dish and not one of them ordered it — everyone shared the big platter. So we do not know how much arrives on a single plate, or whether the side dishes are the same. The price splits too, ₩13,000 against ₩11,000, with the lower figure appearing only in two summer 2026 posts and a September post mentioning an anniversary promotion — probably seasonal, but we cannot say so flatly.
  5. There are tables outside. Seven posts mention them; three use the drinkers' word for a night terrace. A November 2024 visitor found them wrapped in clear sheeting against the wind, still usable in the cold. Four recommend sitting out for an evening drink — though one midsummer lunch party retreated indoors from the sun. Inside is not large: six describe it as small, or count about five tables — and six others note that the tables are nonetheless far enough apart that you cannot hear the next one.
  6. This is a place that fusses over you. All seven writers who mention the service praise it, and what they praise is small maintenance rather than warmth: a high chair fetched and wiped, a table with children asked first whether the chillies should be set aside, the tough tips trimmed off the perilla leaves before they come out, and the second refill of seaweed larger than the first. A May 2025 post describes one person running the whole room — delivery alarms going off, walk-ins arriving, never still. The 2026 posts do not say that.
  7. People come here so they do not have to go to Gangneung. Nineteen of the twenty-eight open with the original: four hours there and back, an hour in the queue, a trip where they never got a table. So almost every verdict here is a comparison — six say it tastes exactly like the coast, two rate it above the original, one prefers the stuffed squid here. None rates it below. But the comparison is lopsided, because it is mostly written by people who already love the original; only one writer had never been.

These are raw counts, not percentages. Someone who did not mention something is not someone who disagreed.

The most ordered dish is kkomak bibimbap (꼬막비빔밥 (2~3인)) — 26 of 28 posts.

The prices here are what bloggers wrote down in their posts, and they may have changed since. Check Naver Place for the current menu and prices. This list is not a menu board — it counts what bloggers actually ordered and ate. Check on Naver Place

Parking

7 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

Posts saying you can park7 of 28 posts

You can park, but the conditions do not agree. Seven writers describe parking their own car: four say the first hour is free, three just say free. And they contradict each other on where it is — one gives directions up to a rooftop deck ("there is no basement here; the parking starts on the third floor, so drive up, then come back down to the ground floor"), while another describes an underground car park in the same building. One mentions a tight spiral ramp. Validation happens at the till when you pay — on that, three agree.

Getting inside

Second flooryes 0 · no 8 (of 28 posts read)

Nobody has looked at the step at the door. Wheelchair, pushchair, ramp, threshold, lift — none of these words appears in any of the twenty-eight posts. There are high chairs, though: two parents asked and were given one, and one of them notes the owner fetched it from the back and wiped it down first. Whether a pushchair can get through the door, no one says.

Not one post mentions the lavatory. The word does not appear anywhere in the twenty-eight — whether it is inside the restaurant, shared with the building, or divided by sex, we do not know. Being a ground-floor unit in an office tower, it may well be the building's; but that is our guess, not anybody's account.

No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 29 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • The hours have changed twice in two years — do not trust an old post. Writers from November 2024 to August 2025 record a midnight close on Fridays and Saturdays; posts from February to April 2026 say 23:40; posts from July 2026 onward say 22:50. The weekday close moved too: ten, then twenty to ten, then ten to ten. The late nights are Friday and Saturday; Sunday keeps weekday hours — nine posts split it that way. One April 2026 post says Saturday and Sunday instead, against the other twelve. If you are planning a late Sunday, phone first.
  • There is almost nothing to say about queueing. One post records a wait: a weekday lunch peak where the writer was glad to have arrived at opening. Another says the room was full but does not mention waiting. One thing to watch for: twelve posts talk about queueing for this food — but that queue is at the Gangneung original, not here. Not queueing is the whole reason people come to this branch.
  • This restaurant pays for reviews in alcohol. Fourteen of the twenty-eight advertise the same offer: leave a receipt review on Naver, get a free bottle. One writer says they took it. Read the praise here with that on the table. Exactly one post declares a sponsorship — not in the text, but as a lone `#sponsored` tag at the very end. Two state they paid their own way; twenty-five say nothing about who paid. One August 2025 visitor was handed a free chilled beef tartare, described as that month's promotion.
