Sigol Bapsang

시골밥상 A twenty-year-old set-meal and ssam-bap house opposite the hospital in Manan-gu, Anyang

Data as of · Published ·

Sigol Bapsang is a set-meal and wrap house in a side street off a crossroads in Manan-gu, Anyang — directly opposite a hospital and across from the south market, which two writers say fills it at lunchtime with hospital staff and patients' families. There are five things on the menu, hand-written on the wall: pork wrap set, snail wrap set, the plain set the place is named after, snail soybean stew, and a seafood pancake. A wrap set brings a dozen-odd vegetable dishes, a grilled flounder, a pot of soybean stew per person, and a pile of leaves. A cauldron of scorched-rice tea stands in the corner, free. It opens at nine in the morning, closes at eight, and never shuts — three posts note that you can have breakfast here. One writer records the owner telling her the place is twenty years old. The posts we read run from November 2024 to September 2026.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

These hours are counted from the posts we read. Shops change them without notice — check Naver Place before you go. Place — check hours

What sets it apart

  1. "Is this really one portion?" is what people write here. Seven say the servings are large and nobody says otherwise, and they are specific about why: two parties of three ordered a single pork portion plus one other dish and could not finish (one was given three bowls of rice and three pieces of fish anyway), and three took food home — pork, half a pancake, leaves. One apologises for the salad leaves she had to leave. There is one dissent: anyone who really wants meat should order two pork portions. Half the volume is what comes with it — a dozen vegetable dishes, the grilled flounder, and a pot of soybean stew for each person at the table.
  2. A cauldron of scorched-rice tea stands to one side and costs nothing. Ten posts mention it, more than mention anything else here. A sign warns that the pot is hot; twice the owner ladled it out himself. A bowl while you wait and a bowl at the end is the shape the write-ups take. Two writers left without any: one by choice, watching her blood sugar, and one who found the pot on her way past the till and wished somebody had said — so it is evidently possible to sit through a meal without noticing it.
  3. Ask for more and it comes, the fish included. Three posts say so — the one that puts it most plainly had watched the next table send back for more grilled fish, repeatedly. Another was touched to be given a second flounder for the asking; a third went back for the mountain greens. Two portions of the meal bring two pieces of fish, but a party of three was given an extra. Nobody reports being refused. One writer, though, worried about saying it out loud — she would rather the place did not get too busy.
  4. Two prices have gone up by a thousand won in two years. The plain set was ₩20,000 for two in November 2024 and ₩10,000 through spring 2025; from June 2026 it is ₩11,000. The snail wrap set was ₩14,000 in 2025 and is ₩15,000 in 2026, level with the pork. Only the pork set has held, at ₩15,000 from March 2025 to August 2026, and so has the ₩16,000 pancake. Nobody calls any of it dear — all four who discuss price say the opposite, one marvelling that this much food comes to fifteen thousand won a head. Two posts we left out of the prices: one from March 2025 puts both wrap sets at ₩12,000, six days after another put them at ₩15,000 and ₩14,000; one from May 2026 puts the plain set at ₩12,000, between a ₩10,000 and an ₩11,000. A September 2026 post records ₩11,000 and wonders aloud whether tax is extra — and nobody answers her.
  5. One dish per person — but they need not be the same dish. Three posts stop to say so, one of them in open astonishment. Three recommend a pair order one pork and one snail set; another, eating less meat, paired the pork with the plain set and found that the ₩5,000 gap made both the price and the quantity come out right. You can come alone: one writer ate a pork set by herself at seven in the evening in March 2025, having searched for somewhere that did not insist on two. But a December 2024 post records a rule that solo diners are taken only after one o'clock — presumably a lunch-rush measure. It does not appear in any later post, so whether it still holds we do not know.
  6. Five posts write about the owner and each describes a different moment: the side dishes going down the instant the order was placed; three bowls of rice and three pieces of fish for a party of three when two were due; the scorched-rice tea ladled out by hand; a second flounder for the asking; and a word to a customer eating alone — from a writer who says she avoids restaurants where anyone talks to her, and enjoyed her meal more for it. Nobody had a complaint. One, caught photographing the menu on the wall and explaining that she wanted to write about the place, got back: twenty years, this place.

Parking

4 posts say you can park; 2 say you cannot. We leave the disagreement standing rather than picking a side.

Posts saying you cannot2 of 16 posts

Parking is the one thing these posts genuinely fight about, and they are fighting about the same patch of kerb. Two say flatly that there is none and to use a public car park; three say there is, in front of the shop, and then in the same breath that it holds one or two cars. Read together they are not in conflict — there are a couple of spaces and that is all, and whoever got one wrote "yes" while whoever did not wrote "no". Where to go instead varies too: a nearby public car park, a public car park somewhere around, and from one writer the car park of the new office block up the road, which she suspects she is not really supposed to use. Only one post says the writer drove, and that one says nothing about where she put the car.

Getting inside

In a basement2 of 16 posts

There is a basement, and they send you down when the ground floor fills. A March 2026 post reports being told so, adding that at lunchtime she has always been seated upstairs; a May 2025 post admits to wondering, on the way home, what the basement is like. Neither of them went down — not one post describes the room below, or the stairs to it. On the ground floor there are more tables behind a sliding door, and two posts mention a room at the back big enough for a group. On the size of the place the posts disagree: two call it roomier than it looks, especially with the back room; one counts the tables and expects a queue at lunch.

Not one post says whether a wheelchair or a pushchair can get in. Nobody writes about a step at the door, which way the door opens, or how much room there is between tables. All we know is that the basement takes the overflow — two posts — and nothing at all about the stairs down to it. Three describe the ground floor filling at mealtimes, so being sent down is not unlikely. If you need a ground-floor table, going off the hour or ringing ahead would be surer. With one writer calling the room roomy and another counting too few tables, we could not even settle how wide the aisles are.

Nowhere in sixteen posts is there a word about the toilet — where it is, whether it is inside or out in the building, whether there are two. Nothing about a hand basin either. Beside write-ups that itemise every side dish, the gap stands out, but it means nobody looked, not that there is nothing to look at. Given that there is a basement, we do not even know which floor it is on.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know

  • Fourteen of the thirty posts we gathered were about other restaurants. "Sigol bapsang" is less a name than a way of saying "country cooking", so a search for it drags in half the Korean food in the country. The dangerous one is that there is a second Sigol Bapsang within walking distance — on another road in the same district, a place renaming itself from a pork-spine-stew house — and five posts were about that one. The other nine were a Sigol Bapsang in Namyangju, one in Paju, a different one by Anyang station, a Korean buffet up at the arts park, a list of restaurants from a television show, a commercial-district survey, and a post about somewhere else entirely that merely said the food felt like country cooking. We dropped all fourteen and counted the sixteen that check in to this address. Every number on this page comes from those sixteen.
  • Nobody says they came by public transport. No bus number appears in sixteen posts, and no one arrives by train. One post prints a walking distance from the station, but in the format the map app generates, so we did not count it. The writers who describe the location in their own words reach for landmarks rather than routes: the crossroads by the post office, directly opposite the hospital, across from the south market, in front of a named apartment block. Only one says she drove. How long the walk from the station actually takes, we do not know.
  • Nobody reports queuing — but three report near misses. One walked in to a full room where a table had to empty before one could open; one took the last free table at lunch; one, seated, watched the room fill behind her and realised she had just missed having to wait, adding that there are fewer tables than you would think. A fourth found it packed on a Saturday. All of them were seated without waiting, and none says how long a wait would be, or whether there is a list to put your name on. Read this beside the fact that the basement takes the overflow.
  • Three posts note a large origin-of-ingredients board on the wall. Two get no further than finding it reassuring. One actually read it — and was sorry to learn the pork is American. What the rest of the ingredients are, nobody copied down. Two writers taste home-fermented soybean paste in the stew, but nothing anywhere says the house makes it; that is a judgement about flavour, not a fact anyone checked.
  • A lot of these writers are regulars. Four say they had been before: already a regular; recommended by the estate agent when she moved in, and still going; a wrap-set devotee's repeat-repeat-repeat; a place she used to come to with her mother. Three more say they will be back. And among these sixteen there is no declared sponsorship and no sign of an undeclared one — no cluster of posts on one day, no shared block of hashtags, and only four that omit a price. They are spread evenly over two years, and four of them are a single paragraph inside somebody's diary of the month. Four state outright that they paid.
