Sijang Hansang Okgye Bonjeom
시장한상 옥계본점 A retro market-stall pocha in Gumi that opens at six and runs to two
Data as of · Published ·
Sijang Hansang Okgye is a retro pocha on the ground floor of the eating alley in Okgye, Gumi. It opens at six in the evening and closes at two in the morning — four on Fridays and Saturdays — and does not do lunch at all. The board is Daegu's Seomun market and Bukseongno transplanted: fish-cake hotpot, stir-fried udon, rice balls, Bukseongno bulgogi, pancakes, fried things, kalguksu, all crammed onto one wall — and since autumn 2025, a beef-tendon hotpot and flame-grilled chicken. Every table has a partition; a back room seats up to twenty, and there is a covered terrace by the window. You order from a tablet and can request songs. It used to be called Dalbam Odeng; in early 2025 the same owners and staff changed the name and redid the inside. The posts we read run from March 2025 to September 2026.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.

What sets it apart
- The name changed, and the regulars know it. Seven of the twenty-nine writers had been here before, and five of them speak of "the Dalbam Odeng days" — one had been coming regularly since then, one visited before the change, one notes the layout is identical to the old place. Three saw the banner outside: same owner, same staff. Some register what did change: the partitions used to be much higher and are now lower; the lighting is plainer. Nine posts spell the old name Dalbam Odeng and two spell it Dalbang, so nine is probably right. The change looks to date to spring 2025 — the oldest post we hold, 18 March 2025, already calls it a brand-new bar.
- One set fills the table here. There are three at ₩29,900, each built differently — the house set (fish-cake pot, stir-fried udon, rice balls, bulgogi), set A (spicy fish cake, seaweed rolls, a pancake) and set B (two portions of Bukseongno bulgogi, charcoal rice balls, udon). A ₩59,900 special sits above them. Of the fourteen who ordered a set, four say it was far too much for two, and two reckon one set feeds four. Nobody calls this place expensive; fourteen use the word value, and six specifically say students can afford it. Single dishes run from ₩5,500 udon and ₩6,000 kalguksu up to ₩28,900 for the tendon hotpot. But these are prices for a dish, not for a head.
- Things arrive free before you order. Fifteen posts describe the opening snack and nine of them name Kkoedori, a childhood biscuit served as it comes — and two were given refills without asking. Four mention pickled radish and puffed rice alongside it; three note the side plates and the two dipping sauces laid out at the same time. The water is not water either: three got warm barley tea, one a chilled hovenia infusion, and one writer calls the place a water destination in its own right. Two found sweets or mango jelly by the door to take on the way out, and one who paid ₩2,000 for extra crisps was handed the whole bag.
- They take song requests — eleven posts say so, and two specify two songs per table. It is described two ways: handwritten notes pinned to the wall with your table number on them, and a request button on the ordering tablet where you type the artist and title. Whether both run at once or one replaced the other, we cannot tell. The practice shows up steadily from May 2025 to September 2026. One writer says the music is good even without requesting; another wanted to and was talked out of it by shyer friends. One simply enjoyed reading the wall of accumulated notes.
- There are pocha-style seats by the window — seven posts mention them. Four write about the open air, the breeze, the sense of being outside, and not one of them sat there. Two explain why: in July 2026 the seats were already taken and she advises getting in early to claim one; in December 2025 the writer looked at them and decided it would be cold. One vows to drink there when autumn properly arrives; another imagines pancakes and makgeolli there in the rain. Everyone recommends these seats and nobody has used them.
- A lot is given away here, and the list keeps changing. The steadiest is a pineapple sorbet or fried dried-fish snack for a photo review of your receipt — ten posts, from May 2025 to August 2026, two of them specifying two pieces of the fish. The rest shifts post by post: free toast for a party of six students (eight posts, from October 2025); shaved ice for showing a student card (three posts, May–July 2025); shaved ice for anyone born in 2006 (two posts, March 2025); a free beer or soju for photographing the banner outside (July 2025); a soju for sharing on social media, plus a March lucky-box draw (March 2025); free toast on a third visit (April 2026); two-for-one draught (July 2026); a points card (two posts). Which of these still stands on any given night is not something we can tell you.
- Several things here are hotter than they look. The fish-cake pot arrives with the broth split in two so you can stir the chilli sauce into one side — and three writers warn to add it a little at a time, with one calibrating it at about a tablespoon for a comfortable heat. The charcoal rice balls catch people out: one calls them a trap, one had a server warn her that a child couldn't eat them, and one notes a non-spicy version exists. On the stir-fried udon, the 2025 posts say mild (two) and the 2026 posts say hot (four) — in between, it was relaunched with new noodles. The red fish cake and the Seomun-market spiced fish cake are also flagged as warm.

On parking the posts split exactly down the middle — five say you can, five say there is no car park. The five: no car park, none dedicated, nothing set aside, an alley too tight with shops to leave a car. The other five: free parking right outside and in the lane, park in front or round the corner, "I took an empty kerbside spot — if there's room in front of the shop, take that," and one who notes the main road is free to park on in the evenings. They are not contradicting each other — there is no dedicated lot, and you take whatever is free outside. One writer's fallback is the Yangpo library car park and a short walk. Several other posts carry a tidy "free parking, alley in front" line, but it is copied from the listing page and we have not counted it.

Nobody has written about floors or stairs. The words "stairs" and "second floor" appear in none of the thirty posts. The licence and every check-in give the address as ground floor, 13-10 Sanhodae-ro 29-gil, and several writers place it at street level in the Okgye eating alley; one supplies the lot number, 837-10 Okgye-dong. So the ground floor is what the records say, and no visitor has told us whether the approach to the door is level.
Nobody has written about a step at the door or a ramp. In all thirty posts the words wheelchair, pushchair, ramp and threshold never appear once. Whether there is a lip at the entrance, how wide the door is, whether a chair fits between the tables — we do not know. Five call the room spacious and three praise the gaps between tables, but that is comfort once seated, not access on the way in. Nine mention the partitions standing at every table, and none says how much of the aisle they take. Three brought children, and not one mentions a high chair.
In a drinking house, people check the toilet first — eleven posts mention it and all eleven say it is indoors. Seven of them go out of their way to mention hot water: bars rarely have it, one writes; another says she always washes in warm water and was grateful; a third that it made a cold night comfortable. Three open a whole paragraph with some version of "the toilet matters more than you'd think when picking a bar." Two say from their own eyes that it is separated by sex; other mentions of that come from a listing block we have not counted. Nobody records how many stalls there are, or how big it is.
No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know
- Not one line about getting here on public transport. Across thirty posts there is no bus number, no stop, no train, no taxi. Every direction assumes you already know the neighbourhood: the Okgye eating alley, the block of shops near the Daiso, by the Starbucks, near the Big Mart. One post gives "about 20 minutes from Gumi station, about 16 from the bus terminal" without saying by what, so we cannot tell whether that is walking or driving. One writer lives close enough to walk; another suggests parking at the Yangpo library and walking in. And for a place that closes at two in the morning, nobody says how you get home from it.
- Whether the back space counts as a private room is exactly what they disagree about. Twelve describe it and each calls it something else: a room, a group table, a private group room, an open area for parties. And one writer states flatly: partitioned tables, but no room. One says it seats eight; two give a four-to-twenty range, but both are copying the listing page. One visitor arrived on a night with forty people booked and found almost every table in the main room reserved, which suggests large parties are seated by joining the floor together. Whether there is an actual door, or only partitions, was never settled — one writer tried to photograph it and found it occupied.
- A lot of this coverage is paid. Four of the thirty carry a sponsorship tag, and one of those four calls itself an honest own-money review in the body and tags it as sponsored at the end — we have read it as sponsored. Three others say they paid, but one of those means splitting the bill with a colleague and another says only that her own money was "included," which is not the same as all of it. The remaining twenty-three say nothing about money — and saying nothing is not the same as saying it was not sponsored. Also, thirty posts are not thirty people: one blogger wrote in June and again in September 2026, declaring a sponsorship both times. Twenty-nine people, thirty posts.
- People who came in 2025 and people who came in 2026 ate at what is almost a different restaurant. The 2025 posts contain no beef tendon at all — fish-cake hotpot, Bukseongno bulgogi, charcoal rice balls and stir-fried udon, mostly ordered as sets. The tendon hotpot, the tendon soup, the chilli chicken feet, the grilled chicken neck and the blood-sausage soup appear from October 2025 onward, always labelled new, and by 2026 they are the face of the place. So what counts as the signature dish here depends on the year the post was written. The stir-fried udon was itself rebuilt in between — new noodles, ₩10,000 to ₩17,000, and a shift from "not very hot" to "too hot for the chilli-shy." Do not read the 2025 posts as a guide to today's board.
- Nobody writes about waiting. In thirty posts there is no queue and no waiting list — the word "waiting" appears once, in a guess that the photo spot by the door would keep you entertained if you had to, and that writer did not have to. Nobody was turned away for want of a table. Plenty describe a busy room, though: one arrived at opening and was the first customer; one looked back on the way out at a full house; one watched parties keep arriving behind hers; one landed on a night with forty people booked. The room clearly fills, but whether people queue for it is not something these thirty posts can tell us. The one exception is the terrace, which a July 2026 writer found already taken and says to arrive early for. One other booked ahead and ate the moment she sat down.
