Korean

Andong Sigol Jjimdak

안동시골찜닭 Sigol means the countryside, so the name reads 'Andong country-style braised chicken', after the soy-braised chicken dish Andong is known for.

Compiled from 10 blog posts read in fullSources →

A stall-front restaurant on the chicken alley of Andong's old market (6 Beonyeong-gil) that serves soy-braised Andong chicken on an iron plate, then fries rice in the leftover sauce at the end. A medium costs 32,000 won, a large 48,000, and fried rice 3,000 — unchanged in posts from July 2025 to October 2026. We read 19 posts from January 2025 to October 2026; 10 record an actual meal, and all 10 had the chicken and the fried rice. The rest are rewrites of TV segments, multi-restaurant lists, a promotion from the shop's side, or posts about other places.

Rows without a count: 3 of 6 posts.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Nine of the ten visit posts say the portions are large. One husband who 'eats a lot' still called it too much; staff steered a family of four to a medium; five women found one large enough. Two couples took leftovers home from a medium. The tenth post, three adults with a medium and two fried rices, called it just right.
  2. Three posts waited: about 30 minutes during the October 2026 mask-dance festival, about 40 minutes on a weekend evening the same month, and a queue on a weekend evening in March 2026. A June 2026 diner walked in at the 10am opening as the first table and found four more parties by 11. A July 2025 couple got the last free table and saw the next group turned away.
  3. Both posts written by parents describe the same thing: staff set aside a mild portion for the child, then add chili to the rest so the adults get it spicy. Two posts also mention high chairs.
  4. Six of the ten visit posts call it clean and four call it roomy; two say the toilet is inside. A June 2026 regular said it used to be a cramped market-style shop and became clean and spacious after a remodel, with roughly 12 or 13 tables.

Getting inside

Toilet inside2 of 10 posts

No post says which floor the dining room is on; we don't know about a basement or an upper floor.

No post says whether there is a step at the door or whether a wheelchair or stroller gets in. That is a gap in the record, not a no.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 16 posts we gathered, 6 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

2026-08-243 posts in one day

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Heat levels differ by post: an October 2026 diner found the medium not spicy and on the sweet side, while a June 2026 diner had extra chili added and called it fiery.
  • No post describes arriving by bus or train; posts only place it third on the right from the market's west gate.
  • The only sign of reservations is a July 2025 post that saw one side of the room set for booked parties. Several posts list the phone number 0507-1311-9977, but none reports booking by phone.
  • Six visit posts all list 10:00 to 21:00 with last orders at 20:00, but each copied it from an info listing; TV-recap posts give a 09:30 opening instead. One post copies 'no closing day'.
