Raw fishKorean

Yongsan Hoe Sikdang

용산회식당 Yongsan ('dragon mountain') is the name of the village area in Naenam-myeon where the shop stands, and hoe sikdang simply means a raw-fish eatery.

Compiled from 21 blog posts read in fullSources →

A one-dish country restaurant on a roadside in Naenam-myeon, well outside central Gyeongju (112 Poseok-ro). The dish is hoedeopbap, raw fish over vegetables, at 15,000 won a head. You don't order; sit down and a bowl per person arrives with mussel broth, scorched-rice tea and side dishes. Several posts copy the house instructions: ladle in the chili paste, eat the fish and greens as a salad first, then stir in the rice. The fish changes with the season, and October posts name gizzard shad and flounder. We read 30 posts dated 5 to 27 October 2026. Twenty-one describe actually eating here. One was about a different restaurant, and eight were lists, guides or a failed visit, so we did not count them.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Waiting is part of eating here. Of the 21 first-hand posts, 19 waited or found a queue. The one that walked straight in came around 10 a.m. on a weekday. The waits people wrote down: under 5 minutes, 10, 20, 20, 20, 30, about an hour five times, 1 hour 20 and 1 hour 30. One post arrived at 8:15 on the first day of a holiday and got number 47; another arrived at 6:22 a.m. and was already 17th; a third says the day's waiting list closed around 9:40 a.m. during a holiday. You can leave after taking a number. Several posts say you'll still be seated if you come back before 2 p.m., and three describe the owner calling numbers through a megaphone. Four waited in the café across the road.
  2. The chili paste is what makes it salty. The house note says one or two ladles, but three posts found it too salty: one ladle was already well seasoned for one writer, another found two ladles grew saltier as liquid pooled at the bottom, and a third says a heavy hand buried the fish. One post found a ladle and a half too bland. Start with one ladle and taste, several advise.
  3. Nine posts call the staff kind, and they say what was done. When a stroller would not fit, staff cleared a table, called the family back and lifted the stroller over a step. A pregnant diner was served flounder only. A neighbouring table that had added too much paste got an extra bowl of vegetables, and one diner got sesame oil on request. Several posts add that if you don't want bone-in sliced fish, say so on the way in and it will be left out.
  4. It is small inside. Six posts call it cramped or compact, and none call it roomy. Table counts vary a little: six four-seat tables, seven, seven, seven to nine, about ten. One post sat near the toilet and found it hectic with waiting customers passing through.

  1. Posts split on the amount of fish: six found it generous, two wished for more or called it ordinary, and one thought it looked small but left full.

Parking

11 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

Posts saying you can park11 of 21 posts

Eleven posts describe parking here. The lot is the open ground beside the shop: one post puts it at about ten cars, another found it roomy enough to wait in the car. Several say that when it is full you park on the roadside or further up the lane. One post differs, saying there is no dedicated lot and you park on the road out front.

Getting inside

Step at the entrance1 of 21 posts
Toilet inside1 of 21 posts

No one says what floor it is on or whether there are stairs. One post just describes an old brick building.

Only one post, a family with a baby, describes getting in: the room was too tight to wheel a stroller straight in, staff lifted it over a step, and there was no high chair. No one wrote about wheelchair access. That doesn't mean there is none; we just don't know.

One post sat 'near the toilet', which suggests it is indoors; no one says whether it is separated by sex or how big it is.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 29 posts we gathered, 8 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

2026-10-162 posts in one day

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • We can't say how to get here by public transport. One post says a car is easier than buses; another travelled by bus that day but doesn't make clear how they reached this shop. Posts put it 14 minutes by car from Hwangnidan-gil and 8 minutes from the Gyeongju tollgate.
  • Fourteen posts list the same hours, 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., closed Monday and Tuesday, but nearly all copied them from the Naver listing; one adds public holidays as closed. From actual visits: one found it already serving at 8:10, one thinks it opens around 7:30 on weekends and holidays, one saw the day's waiting list close around 9:40 a.m. on a holiday, and one arrived on a May 2026 holiday to find it had closed for the day by 7 a.m. Several say it closes early when the fish runs out.
  • One price: 15,000 won per person for hoedeopbap, as ten first-hand posts agree. The mussel broth and rice tea come free. The chili paste sold to take home is 22,000 won for 1.8 litres, and one post says it rose from 20,000 won in September 2026. One list post gives 13,000 won for the bowl, but its writer didn't go, so we didn't count it.
  • You can't book a table: two posts say there are no phone reservations, only the queue on site. Two say takeaway can be ordered ahead by phone, one of them suggesting about ten minutes before you arrive. Most posts give 0507-1383-2119. Two give 054-748-2119, and one writes 0507-1385-2119.
