Korean

Dosol Maeul

도솔마을 Dosol is the Korean name for Tushita, a heaven in Buddhist cosmology, and maeul means village.

Compiled from 18 blog posts read in fullSources →

A set-meal Korean restaurant in an old hanok on Sonhyoja-gil, just off Hwangnidan-gil beside the Daereungwon stone wall. There is one set, the Surisan jeongsik, at KRW 13,000 per person, with side orders (tteokgalbi, assorted jeon, pajeon, grilled flounder, seasoned skate) at KRW 10,000 each. Posts describe soybean-paste stew, okara stew, braised chicken, sweet-and-sour pork, tofu with kimchi, kimchi pancake and greens on one table. We read 30 posts from 7 July to 23 October 2026; 18 describe an actual meal. We set aside 2 posts about other restaurants and did not count 10 itinerary or list posts. Several posts give the same phone number, 054-748-9232.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.

What sets it apart

  1. Most diners sit on the floor. Ten of the 18 visit posts mention floor seating, three of them noting that you take your shoes off. Eight posts ate in a separate room; one describes a large room for about 15 people and small rooms with two tables. Chair seating exists too: one post chose the table side over the floor side, and another suggests the modern building for anyone who finds the floor uncomfortable.
  2. Unusually for Hwangnidan-gil there is parking at the door, but only a few spaces. Eleven posts mention it; the five that give a number say 2-3, 3, 4, 4 and 4-5 cars. One family found three cars already made it feel full and awkward to get in and out; another found it full and parked far away. Several posts suggest the Daereungwon or Nodong public car parks instead.
  3. Side dishes can be refilled, but only two of them. Eight posts mention this, one calling it the first place they had seen a fixed number of refills. Posts split on whether the main dishes count: one refilled two main dishes, while another asked the same question and got an irritated reply.
  4. The set is ordered per head. Four posts say so: three give the rule as one set per person aged 10 and over and one set per two children under 10, and one says the staff take the order by headcount.
2 more
  1. Most find the seasoning mild: seven posts call it not salty, well-balanced or low in salt, while two found it salty, one of them about the thick soybean-paste stew and the other a repeat visitor who kept reaching for water.
  2. Four posts mention waiting: three waited after arriving without a booking (one team ahead; on a weekend a queue formed right after they got in), and one arrived early and walked straight in. No post gives a wait in minutes. Four posts say Naver booking is available, and two mention chairs and a shade awning in the yard for waiting.

Getting inside

Toilet insideyes 1 · no 2 (of 18 posts read)
Separate restrooms1 of 18 posts

No post says anything about floors or levels. It looks like a single-storey hanok, but that is our guess, not something any post states.

No post says whether a wheelchair or pushchair can get in or whether there is a step at the entrance. Posts only describe a stone path with stepping stones and shoes-off floor rooms. That means nobody wrote about it, not that access is impossible.

Posts disagree on the toilets: two say they are outdoors, while one describes clean separate men's and women's toilets inside a building. One post mentions a new building in the yard, so both may be true, but we could not tell.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 28 posts we gathered, 10 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

2026-09-202 posts in one day

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • None of the visit posts describes getting there by bus or train; most came by car or walked over from Hwangnidan-gil and Daereungwon.
  • On opening hours, all 14 posts that give them agree on an 11:00 opening and a 15:00-17:00 break. Eleven give a 20:30 close and three give 21:00; two of those three say they copied the Gyeongju tourism listing. Six give last orders at 19:30, and 13 say it is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. One post lists Monday and Tuesday instead, but in a copied info block, so we did not rely on it.
  • Prices do not vary across posts from July to October 2026: KRW 13,000 for the set and KRW 10,000 for each side. One returning visitor, first there six years ago, says the price rose by KRW 3,000 since then and that the old mixed stew and bulgogi have been dropped, leaving only the set; we do not know when these changes happened. One family paid KRW 57,000 for four sets plus extra rice and drinks.
  • On copied and templated material: two posts from 13-14 September link the same five places in identical wording and photo captions, so we counted only their mention of floor seating. Claims that the hanok is 140 or 165 years old, and the Blue Ribbon stickers, come from the restaurant itself, and we did not use them as evidence.
